I use something I call the "context vs. content" method when reading or watching movies... the mere appearance of evil in a story (be it movie or book or whatever) is not the problem. After all, the Bible has witches, demons, violence, and a variety of other stuff. But in context, they're portrayed as evil.

Some people say the Bible is the exception. I think the Bible should be the rule. I just say this 'cause I remember when a high school class was trying to tell our teacher that we shouldn't read Macbeth because it had witches in it "So does the Bible" I said. "But the witches in Macbeth are portrayed as evil, just as they are in the Bible... so what's our problem?" As long as the evil is portrayed as evil, I think there shouldn't be a problem.

Now, as Harry Potter does portray wizards in a good light, I can't watch it according to my convictions
This is a very good point. Harry Potter makes evil out to be good. Also there is a big difference in a episode of Law and order were a criminal is on trial for his crimes, and Horror films, that are simply to put fear in to people, be gruesome, and entertain the wicked people in this world. Horror films are evil.

It's just to provide a thrill, not that people enjoy murder, to get them a jump. They call the Horror films because they are meant to instill a sense of horror, not sadistic enjoyment.

2nd Timothy 2:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Satan is the one behind the spirit of fear not God. Horror films are from Satan.

I completely respect everyone’s individual beliefs and child rearing decisions.

I do wonder… with the obvious popularity of the Harry Potter books and movies, over the past several years, if there are any figures or credible statistics reflecting an upsurge in witchcraft among children/teens/whoever. (This is not meant as snark)

I have no censorship with regards to what I watch, listen to or read.
I still keep to good values and only suggest things to other people who I know and trust not to get carried away with things.
I'm of a strong enough mind to know what is right, what is wrong and what is fiction.
I've read all the Harry Potter books and don't own a wand.
I've also watched the movies and dislike them. Not because of the witchcraft, but more so because Daniel Radcliffe is a horrible actor.

I suppose what I'm trying to say, after everything I've seen: I don't feel evil.

Do you watch porn or was the non-censoring of yourself a overstatement?

Porno isn't fiction, I think he doesn't go that far(if I misunderstood, please correct me)
This is what he said.

There is no misinterpreting that. Maybe he exaggerated to make some kind of a point.

Thanks for this thread! Harry Potter series is straight from the pits of hell....If I could, I would burn every single Harry Potter book and burn every other witchcraft manual out there as well....Many witches praise Harry Potter btw, which is to no surprise...

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8

I think the Bible is very clear on the matter.I'd like to see a Harry Potter fan use this verse to defend their position that Harry Potter is wonderful and TRUE, etc.....

Being a person who isn't a fan of Harry Potter, you could argue that, even thought the subject at hand is about magic, it is FICTION and even as such it's a story that pits good versus evil and which I'm assuming the good guys win in the end. i wouldn't know, but that would seem to be the just of it. i woul;dn't condemn anyone for watching Harry potter ( that wasn't a small impressionable child, in which case i just wouldn't let them watch it) but i would be a bit worried if you meditated and thought about it's " principles" waaay to much.

Becareful for Harry Potter because it is extreamly evil. Even if it is just stories witchcraft is still against what the Bible say. Witchcraft is wrong in God's eyes. As a Christian I would like to tell people dont read any books with witchcraft because it is against the Christian faith. I like the Bible but Harry Potter do nothing good in people's life. Harry Potter is extreamly dark and all people who read the books and watch the movies should stop watching rubish like Harry Potter and rather read the Bible. Harry Potter is wrong. we should pray that people who like Harry Potter would find out that witchcraft is wrong in God's eyes and that they will also stand up against Harry Potter. They must also know that the Bible tells us to have nothing to do with witchcraft. As a Christian I believe that all tipe of witchcraft is wrong and we must never read any books with witchcraft.

Building on one of my previous posts, I found a site giving the death tolls (recently) of beleiving in witchcraft. This includes people who thought people where witches and murdered or humiliated/tortured/misc. as a result as well as those who think they're witches or something. My point is that a beleif that witches are real is VERY dangerous and many people have suffered as a result.

The belief that your religion is real is also VERY dangerous and many people have suffered as a result.

People may think that witchces are just in stories but there is witchces in real life as well. People dont know that the Bible told us to have nothing to do with witchcraft and they think Harry Potter is wonderful. If the Bible clearly tells us to have nothing to do with witchcraft how could they not see Harry Potter is wrong and why they must stay away from Harry Potter. I think parents should warn their children to stay away from Harry Potter. The Bible clearly tells us to have nothing to do with witchcraft and because of what the Bible tells us no one must get involved with witchcraft. It is wrong and as a Christian I would like to warn people that they must not get anyway involved with witchcraft and to stay away from witchcraft. Parents must warn their kids to stay away from any books with witchcraft in and never let them read any books or any movies with witchcraft in. As a Christian it is very important to me that people must know that Harry Potter is wrong and as a Christian I hate any books or movies with witchcraft in. Witchcraft make people trust in their own strengh instead of trust in God the Father. The Bible clearly tells us that you are not allow to pray towards any other God than God the Father. Books and movies like Harry Potter learn children wrong things like witchcraft instead believe in Jesus Christ. As a Christian I believe in Jesus Christ and I trust in God but Harry Potter is wrong. Stay away from Harry Potter. It is daingerous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But witches don't exist, so what harm could it do? In fact the belief that it does has cost many people their life.

What world do you live in? Witches most certainly do exist along with fortune tellers, magicians, sorcerers, and all types of other demonic practices.

Alright, they exist, but don't have any real abilities. You can't cast a hex on someone to make them die or anything like that. No REAL Witches exist.

Kinda off topic, but still important to this...

I've taken a couple mythology classes. I think the 2nd one I took strangthened my faith a little bit. Since at first I was scared that there was similaritys in some of the stoys and the Bible, but then I realised it was probably God twisting things around to point back to the Bible.
