Indeed, Oncefallen. It's apples and oranges. In my world, a jerk/jerkette is someone who does the evil they do completely with selfish, malicious intent. There is absolutely no noble purpose behind it whatsoever as there is for those who are not afraid to proclaim truth boldly, protect others or take a stand regarding a thing.
I'm bolding taking a stand here by saying I think bullying is evil. Sorry if that makes me a jerkette to anyone.
P.S. - I'm really surprised to read that there are some folks who thought this was about them. I need to watch y'all more closely I guess.

If someone is a jerk to me, it's normally not a huge deal, unless it's something extremely personal. Some things are off limits to tease folks about in decent societies.
I've been reading your posts and I can't imagine you ever bullying anyone. You don't have the heart for it. If you did, I would automatically assume that you didn't mean to at this point.
What ires me about this topic? 17 years worth of patching up the victims of bullies. As I said before, it's not about one person and it's certainly not about anything anyone has said to me directly. It's about people hurting other people who are either out gunned or too weak to speak for themselves. From the comments, reps and emails I've received over the past couple of days, there are clearly far more victims in these parts than I realized, and it deeply grieves my heart and, yes, it makes me angry. Not gonna lie.
I know that a lot of people don't have much experience in dealing with or confronting bullies, but some of us have been trained to do so and know that subtlety won't ever cut it. Most people are afraid to and that's why it has gotten out of hand in our society. When we see it invade the christian environment, it is even more heartwrenching to watch.
Jesus knew about confronting bullies and hypocrits, and He didn't take them out behind the synagogue for a sweet little private chats.

I always get a laugh at people who claim to be ''brutally honest'', when that is just a very thinly veiled disguise for being a raging jerk.
I just know that sometimes in chat, I can send a jab or two at the easy slow moving targets. But I usually do it out of an overall feeling of the room that the conversation needs to change or they just need to talk less.
Also I tend to climb on people who say something I don't agree with. Even if they are my friends or I would otherwise get along with them.

and sometimes when people "act out" it could be a cry for help. Maybe they are hurting, and sometimes their words show it.
I do that often, and I certainly hope that fellow Christians don't spend time gossiping about mine or others attitudes. Has anyone ever thought about going TO a person and asking them whats up?

There is an old saying that hurting people hurt people. For some of them it is venting their frustration and pain, for others they truly mean well but just don't know how to express themselves differently. I've learned in my life that you can say just about anything to anyone as long as you say it the right way. Obviously there are those times that candy coating the truth doesn't do anyone any good and it takes wisdom to know when those times are.

Thank you for your clarification Julianna, yeah, I run from confrontations. I have even had friends get mad at me because I will walk away rather than argue with someone over something I am right about. Eh, I had my say, it is over.
But you did make me stop and think. I have been in contact almost daily, via the internet, with a certain piece of my past. And, yeah, you made me think. I have not been exactly loving towards her, because well, she nuked a bridge (luckily, I have a radiation suit!). So I have survived an unbelievable war she raged and I might have expressed a bit of anger in there somewhere ..... maybe a few biting words even.
So, I am going to set aside the next 30 days and just be positive in my correspondence with her. No, I would not take her back even if gold bars were tied around her neck! (which makes me think of a bridge, a cowboy boot, a well placed .... oh, never mind!) So, I am going to do this, be nice, be positive, get the image of that bridge out of my mind......

The writings of Paul teach us that once we have shared truth with offenders and have given them time to consider their ways and the effects these ways have upon others, and upon the Kingdom of God especially, we are to restore them. He made them and loves them as much as He does us. We are not to leave them broken and bleeding anymore than anyone else.
