I disagree with the 'only mods and friends'. I like being PMed by people i don't know. Sometimes at least.
That's why it could be optional?

In addition to the primary suggestion, the private message system could be separated from the chat window altogether, instead making it part of the main site. Similar to the mail application, yet instant, and the cache would be deleted upon logging out. If possible, this could alleviate a lot of the server load of those chatters that log into the chat , but only to share in pm conversation. Most of the issues in chat that we have can be attributed to overpopulation of the room. I also feel only friends and mods should have the ability to pm a respective person. There is no reason for a stranger to be able to contact someone in an unmoderated atmosphere. The greatest worry is for the younger female users, that are now encountering ''sketch dudes'' on a regular basis. It is for no other reason than they are female, and young..... hence, sketch.![]()

I'm not sure what exactly would encompass the 'middle east', but most commonly when people say it on CC about the PM's they are referring to India and Pakistan. These two countries have a high amount of problem PM's coming through so a lot of people are distrustful of people from these countries until they prove themselves.
I don't believe North Africa qualifies as Middle East, but many people don't respond to Africans either, as there are a lot of requests for money from African countries.
I do encounter "sketch dudes" on a regular basis...some of them have flat-out said to me "You're beautiful" and I've just had to ignore since there was no mod. I'd like to prevent it from happening before it even starts.
Though, the person who made the suggestion didn't say 'optional'. So in response to their suggestion that it be done as standard practice for all, and not listed as an option for some, i said i disagree. I'm not going to make jumps, guesses or assumptions that he meant 'optional'. I'm going by what he said and that's what i responded to.
You're right. "I'd like to be able to block private messages" definitely means "Let's block all private messages".Also, just to let you know, Emily happens to be female. Most people named Emily are female, helpful hint for the future.
So people who look tanned are middle eastern excluding people from central and south america...
Wait, I fail to understand how this collapsed into an argument. These are SUGGESTIONS. Meaning, they may or may not be implemented under two main conditions: 1. The system allows for the change 2. The administrator's discretionary approval.
If you're going to try to make me look stupid, you should at least read everything first so it doesn't backfire on you.
To quote the person i was referring to..
"I also feel only friends and mods should have the ability to pm a respective person. There is no reason for a stranger to be able to contact someone in an unmoderated atmosphere."
Point out to me where i missed the idea they meant 'optional'. Go ahead. Show me.
Next, i know Emily is a female, Mr Obvious, but what wasn't so obvious to you is that i was not talking about Emily. I was talking about Tandemtruths, a male. So thanks for butting in, sarcasm, oh, and being completely wrong about everything in the process. Any other observations you want to screw up in an attempt to make me look bad? I didn't think so.
@ Ugly
So returning fire on somebody who is mistaken is alright as long as they're rude? I see.
A simple" I was talking/referring to Tandemtruths." may have sufficed. Maybe even "I don't appreciate how you worded that."
As it stands, it reads like "No you!" except verbose.
I'm not singling you out, in fact if you read any of my posts where I'm rude or defensive from here on, you get first dibs on calling me out.
Ask around to see if they're doing the same to other female chatters.
And poof, they can be whacked away with the ban hammer. A lot of people go unnoticed simply because no one spoke up.
