At this point, we're really just arguing semantics over the phrases stop and stood still, and for no apparent reason.
The documentary addresses the comet idea. From a biblical standpoint, a comet doesn't make sense here. For one, comets aren't going to "stop" (and I'm just using the word stop here for simplicity of avoiding a 2 paragraph explaination of what is meant by the word stop). Also, the ancient people knew the night sky very well, better than what we do. They didn't have TV or text messaging or internet, so what would they do? They would study the night sky. This wasn't their first time looking up at the stars and being completely clueless about it. Why is this important? King Herod and his counsel were completely unaware of what the wise men meant when the wise men said they saw the signs in the sky. If it was a comet or meteor shower or something obvious like that, everyone would be talking about it, and King Herod would have already been aware of such an event. A comet simply doesn't fit the descriptions.
