I have to wonder if you are being sincere in your questions, or just trying to play "stump the Christian" to make some point, smithbr8. Either way, I pray that you may receive spiritual discernment and that you realize your own value in Christ, sister.

Of course not! i dont see where you consider it there "lying" I mean there little kids playing pretend. It's prefectly normal and even in the bible it states that kids are innocent in God's eyes until there old enough to know right and wrong.

You wanna call me worthless and make me worship you, you're in for some disappointment :( sorry.
ummm.... never claimed to know it all or to be god or ask you to worship me or that you are worthless.

not sure where you see/hear/ or reading that, but i'm just going to pray for you now.

the difference between pretending and lying is that

one is done for the intention of playing and both parties know its not the truth (pretending)

whereas lying involves one party/person knowing its not true and trying to convince the other party that it is true.

yeah i don't know all the answers, but I know someone who does: Jesus.

if should worship anyone it should be Him.

you'll be in my prayers.

I think everyone has a valid point, but looking outside of it all, what is obvious to me, is that adults no longer see themselves as children of God, and hence there is a chasm between childhood and adulthood, which adults create. Has anyone ever tried giving up on their beliefs and fears and opinions and just loving and playing like they did when they were young? Adults tend to grow more and more away from being like a child of God, but sometimes you got to stop being an adult and be how you were born, and if you can truly get that, and understand it, you can be born again with a renewed mind, wise but still childlike :) Jesus said only when you can be like this child (again) can you enter the kingdom of heaven, which is a state of mind and being, since the kingdom of heaven is within. But often what makes us adults is how we are conformed to see what is outside of us as more important, more important than our heart and feeling peace. When did children learn stress, I mean physical mind bending stress? Well that would be in the disconnection from God into adulthood :) Teenagers growing up have these symptoms because they are being pressured by a world designed by adults who think they know better, into becoming an adult. The reason I know many things is because I never let go of what being a child of God stands for and that is not letting ones heart be broken in until our mind rules us above our pure heart. Whether we believe in God, praise Jesus, read the bible, or whatever, if everything you do is from your mind and not your heart - you will experience suffering, but not the kind of suffering Jesus suffered when while working solely from his heart he sacrificed his life for all of us, so he could try to make us see this simple truth, this awareness of what this world makes us become, but that we can undo, each and every one of us. Even the mind can say it is saved, going to heaven. But the heart does not even need to say it or proclaim it, for it is often silent except in its actions and intentions. Peace :)

So if I "pretend" I don't believe in God, then it's ok? Isn't that still a lie? If I tell the police, "Oh, I was just pretending that I was a robber and tied up this family as part of my game" does that make it ok?

Oh look, it's the typical tactic of twist everything that's said to some random extreme.

As Children play cops and robbers, or fireman, cowboys and indians, mommy and daddy. What ever it may be they are simply acting out real life as they understand it. They are not lying about anything.

They are reenacting as they understand.

1 Corinthians 13:11 (KJV)
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

1 Corinthians 14:20 (KJV)
20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

If an adult lies to a child about santa or anything for that matter, the children will understand as a child. They will except it to be the truth.

How many adults do you know who as a child were taught that Darwins theory of evolution was true, and to this day still believe it to be true?

How many adults do you know who as a child were taught, God does not exist, and to this day still believe it to be true?

So you see a lie can and is very damaging to anyone but even more so to a little child.

Matthew 18:6 (KJV)
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Mark 9:42 (KJV)
42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

Luke 17:1-2 (KJV)
1 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!
2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

This passage was repeated three times in Scripture. It must be very important to God if he made it a point to have it repeated three times.

If we lie to a little child it is an offence against them.

Don't let the subtlety of the serpent cause you to believe it is ok to disobey God and lie to little children or anyone for that matter.

I often wonder if people who ask these kinds of questions got dropped on their heads when they were a child.

What I mean is if they are playing a game and pretend to be a mommy, or a fireman, or a cowboy, do they go to hell since they're lying to others saying "I'm a fireman!" ? How is that any different than telling "lies" to your children about Santa?

From my understanding, everyone is innocent in the eyes of God until they reach the age of accountability. Then they are not allowed to go against the word of God - unless they are not aware of their actions being wrong.

This is my take on raising children in a christian home. Everything a child is taught is okay to them because it is a learned behavior. Unfortunatly if the child is taught something incorrect then they will sin against God without knowing it.

Not to boast - just give an example to help. My husband and I have choosen to not celebrate Halloween because of the evil attached to it. We are responsible for four souls and do not want them teaching their children incorrectly and so on and so forth. In other words, everything children are taught today can affect future generation children.

Jesus said "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped his clothes beat him and went on their way leaving him half dead. A priest happen to be going down the same road and when he saw the man he passed on the other side. So too did the Levite...."...or how about the guy who sold everything to buy a field to get the buried treasure? ....was there really a field with buried treasure? Was there really a good Samaritan? Did Jesus know them? ......come on guys....seriously...there is a HUGE difference between lying and stories/role play/ pretend games as a child.

Jesus was teaching a lesson on loving your neighbour! And who is your neighbour! He was not making up a story.
You can't just take only one or two verses ans say thats it, that all there was said. This is what the Scribes and Pharisees have always done.
At the same time he was teaching a lesson, he gave us an exaple of how those who have no love in there hearts toward there neighbor respond to such a matter.

Lets look at the entire passage and see what was done.

Luke 10:25-37 (KJV)
25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 Andlikewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

This was a lesson and an exaple Jesus taught. Not just a silly story bearing no truth. This was a real life example. There is much truth in this teaching.
I have seen this "story" play out day after day in my life. Yes even priests, pastors, preachers, decans in the church as well as others claiming to be righteous, pass by a neighbor in need showing no love.

Remember the question from the lawyer, tempting Jeus!
Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

What was Jesus' ultimate answer? LOVE! Love God, Love your neighbour.

Matthew 22:37-40 (KJV)
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Galatians 5:14 (KJV)
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

LOVE

2 Timothy 4:1-4 (KJV)
1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And
they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

2 Peter 1:16 (KJV)
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

If you love your children are you going to lie to them and follow cunningly devised fables (lies)?

If you love someone you sure don't lie to them.

Lying to children, telling them santa brought gifts for them and put them under the tree is not just a story its a LIE. Besides it all starts with the abomination you bring into the house and decorate, calling it a christmas tree.
Take a look at this passage the LORD give us addressing this so called Christian holiday.

Jeremiah 10:1-4 (KJV)
1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

This is the wonderful christmas tree the LORD is speeking of. Are you learning the way of the heathen?
Have you set up your idol (christmas tree) and then bow down to it to place your gifts before it?

Deuteronomy 7:25-26 (KJV)
25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.
26 Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

Deuteronomy 12:30-32 (KJV)
30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

Really!!!!
The old testament does not apply anymore.
Did someone forget to tell Jesus when he taught from the teachings in the old testament and referanced them many times, they no longer apply??

If the old testament does not apply any longer then lets throw it out so we no longer know why it is that we need our LORD and Saviour. If the old testament does not aply anylonger, how else can we know we are under the bondage of sin before being born again?

The old testament applies as much today as it did back when the law and the profits taught of it.

Is the old testament no longer part of God's word given to man??

We are not able to understand what is being taught in the new testament without the old testament teachings.

Luke 4:4 (KJV)
4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Is the old testament part of God's Word?

1 Timothy 4:1-2 (KJV)
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

If the OT still applies as much now as it did then, why don't we follow these to the letter as well?

Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)

Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9)

If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10).

If a man sleeps with his father's wife... both him and his father's wife is to be put to death. (Leviticus 20:11)

If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death. (Leviticus 20:14)

If a man or woman has sex with an animal, both human and animal must be killed. (Leviticus 20:15-16).

If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18)

Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27)

If a priest's daughter is a whore, she is to be burnt at the stake. (Leviticus 21:9)

People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18)

Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community. (Leviticus 24:14-16)

Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

Anyone who dreams or prophesizes anything that is against God, or anyone who tries to turn you from God, is to be put to death. (Deuteronomy 13:5)

If anyone, even your own family suggests worshipping another God, kill them. (Deuteronomy 13:6-10)

If you find out a city worships a different god, destroy the city and kill all of it's inhabitants... even the animals. (Deuteronomy 13:12-15)

Kill anyone with a different religion. (Deuteronomy 17:2-7)
