Thoughts on "the devils music".

I was not aware of that. Here's another gem: composing using the interval of an augmented fourth (like C to F#) was not permitted during most of the time music composition was dominated by the church. The interval was called "diabolus in musica". That's Latin for "Devil in music."

I am most serious. This is a matter of historical record. At least my whole original post was, not just this one sentence, which is their claim, and not fact.

Music only becomes 'evil' when your perception of it is evil.

And perception is the thing that causes blindness and makes us vulnerable to deception in the first place.

Change your perception: dodge your deception!

If I gave a homeless person a big mac cause the nearest food place was MacDonalds, I could be called out for trying to give a homeless person a heart attack if someone was vigorous and sufficiently judgementally-minded.

But my intent is to feed him.

The person throwing judgement's intent (although they might cite 'protection of this homeless man') is just that: purely to judge.

So then who is the deceiver there? And coincidentally, who has a flawed perception there to?

My intent is what matters. Not someone else's perception of it.

God sees it for what it is.

Sorry, i don't take my spiritual advice from power hungry religious fakes looking to keep a thumb on the uneducated masses by feeding them silly, unfounded and non-biblical doctrines. What does the Trinity have to do with music?

Nothing, of course. I'm not suggesting you follow it. I'm just pointing out that most music was thought to be the Devil's at one time. And that Scripture was used to "prove" it.

In the fifth century, the Pope threatened war against a French monastery, because the melodies in their songbook went up on certain notes when his went down.

Have you ever heard music in "just intonation" tuning? Bach created "tempered tuning". To this day, wind instrument players in praise teams have to overblow certain notes to correct for it, as their instruments are built to just intonation, as they physically must be. Not a half century ago, before Internet and TV, many people in Asia were unaccustomed to western tempered tuning, and rejected our music as "out of tune". This is how today's music would have sounded to Jesus, who grew up in a "just intonation system", based on the trumpet.

My whole purpose in pursuing this listing of historical condemnations in music, is that we do not condemn too quickly, even if we think Scripture is supporting us.

Talking about putting words in someone's mouth. That wasn't what he meant at all. It usually is a good idea to read a post a couple of times before you make a comment on it.

lol this might be off topic but I went to walmart not to long ago and there were WWE action figure sets in the Christmas area and they came with folding chairs, batons, and other trailer trash weapon accessories. I was very temped to waste my money on it.

I was once in a heavy metal band. I use to loved it, but when i jammed i felt lost. Something changed inside me.
Now i sing Jesus la la la . Funny that.
I have put much thought into this reason as i personally was involved in it, although ppl say its just music it has a lasting impression on how we act. We don't even realize it. Like an armor or like we want to burst out. It is a subliminal message. It is hard to say Emiem hasn't had a effect on young ppls opinions. Slipknot with people = S..t, etc It is the same as TV, every generation has pushed the boundary on what we call exceptable until where we are now watching obscene TV. Its had to watch your 3 yr old daughter dancing to lady gar (whatever) That has an impact on what they think at that age is acceptable. I would agree and say that at least you are listening to christian words and I wont lie i still enjoy listening to some heavy stuff but listen to what they are saying in the (nonchristian) music. And don't worry about ppl judging you its not their job, but love G-d first.
 
When I first became a Christian at 17 the Lord convicted me of music....not just one style, but music in general as music was a BIG part of my life. After a few years of walking with The Lord and making sure I had NO IDOLS before Him He introduced music again into my life. Now I just enjoy it for what it is, I can take it or leave it, any style. I think people give the enemy too much credit in so many areas of their lives. I always go back to the scripture where it talks about the weaker brothers not being able to eat anything off the table if they believe its been sacraficed to other Gods whereas the stronger brothers can eat anything because to them all things are pure through christ, it nolonger affects them or binds them up.

The simple answer to this is if it bothers you then dont listen to it. If your fine with it then enjoy it for what it is. Dont force your OWN walk with God onto others, we are at different places with God.

Most metal bands have crazy album covers especially older metal I wouldnt look to much into it. lol
