Does anyone have an issue with being sinlge at Christmas time? If so, why?

I have no issue with being single at Christmas.. being alone at Christmas is another issue. It's not the alone time when you're single, but especially on Christmas, there is sometimes no one to celebrate with and enjoy the simple things and give gifts to and so on. Pitfalls? Being alone on a day when almost everyone you know is busy with loved ones, can give an unintended door to the enemy to begin working on you because you are vulnerable.

So, because I am single and alone this Christmas, I will be awaking early and carefully putting my armor on. It's the only way to get through the day in the joy and peace of Jesus!

I don't have any issues with being single at Christmas either. I do sometimes wish I could be with family, but with no car and my closest relative (brother) out of town with his family at his in laws, I just treat the day as basically another day, except that I worship the Lord and praise Him more so that day for His birth.

I will pray for you, indubitablyHis, to rest in His strength at Christmas. God is with us through all of our life with Him, but sometimes His presence is felt more and, in that time, thank Him for keeping a hold on you as you try to leave the shelter of His wing, the shelter of the Most High is beyond compare, rarified air, mountain, and, naturally sea-breezy, like pure, ocean sea water blown through the nostrils, so cleansing, even healing, so, stay there, indubitably, in His air way up there. But all the while, as you have found that 'high,' place, keep asking the Lord to plant your feet on higher ground, for, the Enemy DOES want to lower us down to his level where the air smells sweet but is really a deadly carbon monoxide scentless scent, that puts you to sleeeee... :(

I let the Lord lead, His way is perfect for Christmas and all year, I go to mom's mostly, see nieces and nephew, 3,6,13, ages, they are a real blessing to me and I love my mama, too :) God is good, be in Him, verything else is easy, giving your burdens to Him :)

Yes, I do have a few issues. Because I can't have someone to love and hold during this beautifully festive time of year. No one to buy chocolates and presents for. No one to kiss under the mistletoe. No one to share those special magical moments with. No one to make snow angels with. No one to play out in the snow with. No one to tenderly love on Christmas Eve. No one to hold my hand as we go shopping at the mall and making other lonely people jealous. No one to slow dance with while light is dim and beautiful Christmas music plays in the back ground. No one to playfully throw a snow ball at. Even if said snowball is slushie and covered with under boot matter. Because they wont care. Because they love me- WAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

All sarcasm aside, no. I don't have any issues. As for the picture...

I have always been single this time year and I don't give it much thought.

Probably more on valentines day than Christmas. On Valentines day I just want people to stop talking about valentines day and their GF or BF. I don't want to know or hear about it. I try really hard to avoid it.

Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus. It has nothing to do with me being single. So the answer to your question is no.

Ain't it the truth!! I just have one family to visit--my own--and it's pretty simple.

One guy I work with was saying that between him and his fiancee, they have 6 houses to go to on Christmas Day, with the first beginning at 8 AM and the last starting at 6 PM. WHEW!!!

And don't forget the drama if you don't show up to them all... or go to one and not the other... or if word gets out that you thought Aunt Beatrice's ham was dry and Uncle Frank was drunk and dancing on tables again... Or maybe that you handed out presents at your Mom's house but didn't give anyone anything at your future mother-in-law's... Arrows are sure to fly.

Sure, I'd love to have someone to spend the holidays with. But... I'm thankful that I at least don't have drama and 6 dinners to eat.

It's very interesting. I hope everyone is being honest.

The reason I ask is because I write a blog in singleness and my pastor suggest I write one about being single at Christmas as a lot of people struggle with it. Maybe reading the blog about it would be a comfort and encouragment to them.

So I started trying to write a blog but personally I don't have an issue with being single at Christmas and i think it would depend on your situation. There are lots of things I'm looking forward to when I do share Christmas with someone and I wish I could share those things now but- I don't feel like Christmas isn't as good without having someone to share it with.

Needless to say I didn't get very far so I came on here to get some other perspectives, but it seems most people feel the same way I do...

Part of me thinks- my pastor got married at 19, maybe she's just assuming people struggle with it... But then there are people who do. I just don't really know why exactly so i don't know how to address it.

So if you DO find Christmas hard as a single person, please be honest and let me know why because it would help me out.

It's a miracle! All these replies and I'm the only one who gets lonely or has any feelings of wanting to be "not alone" on Christmas. You guys are awesome.. all so very well adjusted. I had no idea that abject singleness was a life's ideal until this post. Hmmmm
I've been wrong for so long!

I don't believe the Christmas hype any more. Just another day for me, but I do wish others a Merry Christmas if they consider that day special and I hope that they enjoy themselves. But there are two things to be truly thankful for at this time of the year. FOOTBALL AND FOOD! YEEEAAAHHH!

I am not alone at Christmas time, BUT if I was I would not like it at all. I have never had a Christmas without any family around. The first two years that I was single and my parents hadn't moved back to NY were hard. I had other family here but I am close to my parents and being without my ex made it really hard at the time.

Sure, the holidays are tough when you're alone. I've written about this before, but my ex-husband left right before the holiday season and he was happy as a clam because he was spending it with his new girlfriend. I was completely miserable. My family took a picture that year and my face looks carved out of stone--I couldn't force myself to smile for anything. I used to love the holidays but hated them for many years after that.

Now, I'm more indifferent. My heart has built up callouses over the years, so as others have posted, holidays are just like any other days, but with obligations. I've spent 3 Thanksgivings in prison visiting rooms, and at least one Christmas alone eating cereal. The holidays? Bah humbug!

I'll tell you what's tougher than Christmas as a single (to me at least)--weddings, pregnancy announcements, births of children, birthday parties, anniversary parties, etc. because to me it's like a glaring neon sign. God may as well write you a message in the sky that says, "Yes! I've overlooked you yet again and given the things you've dreamed about forever to someone else!"

But maybe it's just me. And now, as so many years have gone by, I hear a lot about the problems people encounter in their relationships, so yes, I do try to look at what I DON'T have to deal with rather than what I'm missing.

I prefer to be single during Christmas for the following three reasons:

1. More Christmas chocolate for me!!!

2. I save tons of money by not having to buy "girlfriend gifts"

3. With the money I save on "girlfriend gifts" I can buy more chocolate on Boxing Day!!!

I call it the Single's Chocolate Tri-Fecta Christmas Day - Boxing Day Blessing!!!

I think if people are super traditional, Christmas is a big loss.

I think Easter is harder than Christmas.
