Maybe if you showed some NT scripture that says we are to strive to keep the 10 commandments what you are saying would start to make some sense??

The only striving I see is either being led by the spirit or by the flesh.
You make it seem it is a bad thing to strive to obey in faith

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Maybe it is the terms you are using...

How is there striving in faith?

What about faith would cause someone to strive?

I love that last part. Took me a while to grasp it. But if I hurt someone intentionally with words, it's just as bad as cutting their ear off, y'know. Whatever my motive is, it's not 'good', in the sense that counts. it may be 'admirable' by some, but if I had 'let the guard walk on past', so to speak, I probably would be looked upon a lot better, y'know? :)
Well said, thanks for being part of this conversation. I appriciate it.

Thank you Grandpa. I will be glad to explain my words and how they are being used.

strive = knowing that we are not yet made perfect and that sometimes we fall in our walk with the Lord, we need to get back up and continue to be led by the Spirit. 'Strive', in this sense, is used to mean 'aim' for the finish line and that is accomplished through obedience to God upon the path He leads on.

Conclusively, there will be times when we do not obey the Spirit and walk the path He is leading on. Knowing that the Spirit took the place of the Law as our schoolmaster, it is needful to hearken to Him, as He knows the solution. So, we strife in that course to come out as graduates of that class.

Strive = aim. That is, we aim for that obedience so that.....

Hmmm.

Striving in the spirit means trying to be obedient to God?

The Lord Has already established with me that I was not able to be obedient by my own work, my own will.

I need help. I need Salvation. I need mercy.

I haven't been taken to a spot by the Lord where I didn't need Him.

Do you think that is what is meant by Abide in Him? Knowing we will always need Him and Trusting that He will give us Victory? By faith...

Has anyone posted the commandments of Jesus?

The Golden Rule
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

The other commandments of Jesus
1. "Forgive everybody of all their offences against you."
2. "You must be born again."
3. "Abide in me, and let me abide in you."
4. "Let people see your good works." (do not hide your light under a basket.)
5. "End disputes quickly."
6. "Whatever causes you to sin, get rid of it."
7. "Do not swear oaths at all."
8. "Do not return offence for offence." (Turn the other cheek.)
9. "Give what people ask of you, and give more than is required." (Go the extra mile.)
10. "Love your enemies and those who work against you."
11. "Give to the poor to please god, not to gain approval from other people."
12. "Pray privately and simply, not to impress other people."
13. "Make your prayers be like the Lord’s Prayer."
14. "When you fast, do it secretly, not for show."
15. "Store up your treasures in heaven, not on earth."
16. "Do not worry about your material needs."
17. "Do not worry about the future."
18. "Make god your highest priority, and he will take care of all your needs."
19. "Do not judge other people." (Judge not, lest ye be judged.)
20. "Do not give holy things to dogs or cast your pearls before swine."
21. "Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, comfort those in distress."
22. "Follow the narrow path to life." (enter by the narrow gate.)
23. "Beware of false prophets."
24. "Exercise power over unclean spirits."
25. "Love little children, do not despise them."
26. "Do not take the titles 'master' or 'father' for yourself."
27. "Resolve disputes in an orderly way, like this . . . "
28. "Do not oppose other believers in Christ who are not in your group."
29. "Have total faith in god for everything."
30. "Be like the good Samaritan." (go, and do likewise.)
31. "Love other people as i have loved you"
32. "Eat bread and drink wine in remembrance of me."
33. "Wash one another's feet."
34. "Be merciful."
35. "Go and teach all nations, baptising them."
36. "Keep my commandments."
37. "Be prepared for your master to return."

Think about it:

The Spirit says: feed that man

The flesh says: spit on that man

Now, say we continuious do the opposite of what the Spirit says (literally).

Now, isn't obedience necessary? Must we obey? Does not the Spirit speak of the Law through love? Do we have to obey if we wish to obtain that which is offered to those who keep the commandmants (through the obediene to the leading of the Spirit, the same Voice who spoke to those in the wilderness) and the faith of Christ?

SURE WE DO. Therefore obedience is not dead in faith and is not a work to earn salvation, but without obedience to God, would we not be walking on the oppostite path?

They who keep the commandments and faith........

We abide in Him as long as we continue to be led by Him. That is why we need Him and place our faith in Him SO that He will give us victory. Without being led by Him in obedience, then would we not be called those who are deaf?

Grandpa,

Is saying: "be led by God"...

the same as saying : "obey God in His leading?"

If we are to be led, then does that not speak of obedience so that we could be led?

They are harder to keep than the Ten Commandments by which we stand condemned already which is why we need to believe in Jesus for our salvation. Unfortunately some people believe salvation is only for the predestined when in reality all those who believe in Jesus who died for the "whosoever" are predestined for Glory and their salvation is assured. :)

Instead of trying to keep commandments, why not follow were one is led to and thus, the law is kept?

Would that apply to the murderer and the adulterer?
