Well...I'm 40 now. Officially old. As I read through this forum, I see so many very young singles stressing out about their future. It touches my heart because I remember doing the same thing.
As tough as it is for me to admit, I have been a christian longer than a lot of the posters in this forum have been alive. For that reason (and because I have a child about their age), I am moved to share with them what I have learned. God doesn't want us carrying all of that. He really doesn't. He is interested in and wants to take care of absolutely every detail in our lives, and wants us to come to Him with every single life-affecting decision we make...which pretty much comes down to all of them when you think about it, doesn't it?
I know some folks get tired of reading "pray about it", "trust God", "get closer to God". Seems like boilerplate christian speak to a lot of people, but it really IS that simple.
- Moses didn't have to do anything other than trust God and raise a big stick for the sea to part.
- Abraham didn't have to do anything but walk up the mountain with his son and trust God to provide the sacrifice.
- The Centurion didn't have to do anything but believe Jesus for his child to be healed.
- Peter didn't have to do anything but keep his eyes on Jesus in order to walk on stormy seas.
Sure, many times there are actions we need to take. There are also times when God is waiting on us to learn something before we are prepared for the next chapter in our lives. But all of it comes down to trusting Him with every.single.thing.
When I was a child and would go walking with my mom, I would hold her hand during the tricky parts of that walk, like crossing streets, etc. There were times when I would let go to pick up a dandelion or look at a rock, bug, cat or some other curious thing. But when I was puzzled, confused or scared, I would run back to her and grab her hand. She knew just how far she needed to reach down for me to grab it and I knew just how far I needed to reach up. I've learned to do the same with God over the years.
If you are going through a tough time right now, wondering about your future - jobs, your love life, finances, school, pain, illness, addiction, whatever...I hope you find this post helpful. Please take whatever it is and lay it at the foot of the cross. Humble your heart and admit to the Lord that it is more than you can handle on your own. Pray (and don't just TALK, listen and be vigilent for your answer), fill your heart and mind with scripture, praise him. Trust Him. He's got this. Whatever it is. <3
Praying for all of you...
