Well...I'm 40 now. Officially old. :) As I read through this forum, I see so many very young singles stressing out about their future. It touches my heart because I remember doing the same thing.
As tough as it is for me to admit, I have been a christian longer than a lot of the posters in this forum have been alive. :D For that reason (and because I have a child about their age), I am moved to share with them what I have learned. God doesn't want us carrying all of that. He really doesn't. He is interested in and wants to take care of absolutely every detail in our lives, and wants us to come to Him with every single life-affecting decision we make...which pretty much comes down to all of them when you think about it, doesn't it?
I know some folks get tired of reading "pray about it", "trust God", "get closer to God". Seems like boilerplate christian speak to a lot of people, but it really IS that simple. :)
- Moses didn't have to do anything other than trust God and raise a big stick for the sea to part.
- Abraham didn't have to do anything but walk up the mountain with his son and trust God to provide the sacrifice.
- The Centurion didn't have to do anything but believe Jesus for his child to be healed.
- Peter didn't have to do anything but keep his eyes on Jesus in order to walk on stormy seas.
Sure, many times there are actions we need to take. There are also times when God is waiting on us to learn something before we are prepared for the next chapter in our lives. But all of it comes down to trusting Him with every.single.thing.
When I was a child and would go walking with my mom, I would hold her hand during the tricky parts of that walk, like crossing streets, etc. There were times when I would let go to pick up a dandelion or look at a rock, bug, cat or some other curious thing. But when I was puzzled, confused or scared, I would run back to her and grab her hand. She knew just how far she needed to reach down for me to grab it and I knew just how far I needed to reach up. I've learned to do the same with God over the years. :)
If you are going through a tough time right now, wondering about your future - jobs, your love life, finances, school, pain, illness, addiction, whatever...I hope you find this post helpful. Please take whatever it is and lay it at the foot of the cross. Humble your heart and admit to the Lord that it is more than you can handle on your own. Pray (and don't just TALK, listen and be vigilent for your answer), fill your heart and mind with scripture, praise him. Trust Him. He's got this. Whatever it is. :) <3

Like, like like like like like like like like! I'm not sure how much this will really sink in, but I pray it does. Thanks to a few on these forums I have really gained an appreciation for the truth in the words above. I always 'knew' them, but really applying them is so powerful that it's hard to explain.

There are times I wonder if the anxiety expressed has something more to do with anonymity. It's easier to dump even minor worries on a chorus of people you don't actually know than increasing tension within one's own family.

That at least accounts for whatever candor I bring here.

Kayem7 and I hit on this in an earlier discussion as well: I think our generation has more to fret about based on manufactured customs. Our society has largely rejected God's rules regarding relationships as rigid, arbitrary, and antiquated. Whereas the rules we govern our relationships and, indeed, whole lives with have gotten greater in number. It is akin to the idea of a few foundation, enforceable, and well-known laws versus a bureaucratic peanut gallery.

Then again I view most of the world and life in general as a bureaucracy to be dealt with, an evil to vanquish, and a territory to conquer and build upon. Consider the source.

RITTER, I agree. Things HAVE gotten complicated. We have allowed them to. It’s all part of The Lie, isn’t it? That becomes very clear when we look at how Adam and Eve were so tenderly cared for and provided for in the garden. From the beginning it was not designed to be that complicated, was it?
----

The gospel, itself, is a perfect example. While there are deeper, richer things of God that are revealed to us as we are able to handled them, I don't believe for a moment that God ever intended the gospel to be presented in a way that would cause people to become frustrated and throw in the towel attempting to understand it. Jesus said to come as a child. :)
------

As far as relationships go, I think, there again, we can put FAR too much pressure on ourselves and others. Looking back at the innocence of my early years of marriage, those times remain precious. I thought I knew so much…and I hadn’t a clue. Makes me smile now. Sweet times. Wouldn’t have traded them for the world. :)
ENJOY being young. Enjoy learning. Keep seeking. Keep growing. I hope to do all of these for the rest of my days. I know God isn’t finished…even with an old fogey like me. ;)

LIGHTNING: Thanks for the b-day wishes :)

Thank you, rachelsedge. :) My real name is Dianna. :) Jullianna is a username I picked because I love the meaning of it: Sent by God. I always wanted to have a daughter so I could name her this.

Happy Birthday Jullianna! Great thread posting!

It gets harder and harder for people to remind themselves of these encouraging words because we're constantly fed these ideas of how we should get what we want, when we want, and things just don't work that way. God is the master artist and paints every stroke of our lives. He sees the big beautiful picture He is painting, all we see is one little speck that just doesn't seem to be enough, but it is. It is absolutely perfect in every way even if we don't see it.

"Yes - get close(r) to God - it is the 'key to happiness' for your life."

He wants us to trust in Him and depend on Him. Every day. Every hour. Always.

Get close to God. Stay close to God. Strive continually to get closer to God.

Strive continually to understand and to do whatever He wants you to do.

Start today. Don't wait. Don't stop. Don't pause. Don't take a break.

Do not allow yourself to "drift" or be "pulled away" from Him.

He certainly knows how to humble you until you return...

So...

"Chill..."

Keep Him at / in the center of your life.

Good Advice. Do not ignore it. Take it.

~

Happy Birthday, Dianna!

I like the story of Naaman in 2 Kings 5.

Naaman: I'll go to the great prophet Elisha, and he will heal me of leprosy. Elisha told me to wash in the Jordan river seven times? Please, like that's gonna do any good. Forget it. I've washed in rivers, didn't work. There's better and cleaner rivers a whole lot closer...~rolls eyes~

Servants: Well, Naaman, the prophet Elisha did tell you what to do, as simple as it sounds...Maybe you should give it a try?

Sometimes the simplest things are the ones that work...

(And, Happy Birthday, Jules!)

Yes, well said. As a follower of Christ, one must allow God to lead the way. No matter what happens God knows what's best for us according to His plan. You must love Him and trust Him. Although we face many struggles in this life, you can still find joy. Don't allow anyone or anything steal your joy. Count your blessings and be a blessing to someone else.

Those words in bold are the reasons why so many singles feel alone, left out, and so far behind everyone else. Our society tells us what we ought to believe, or rather what they want us to believe, and because they live it the way they say it Christians are left feeling broken, discouraged, and depressed. The truth of the matter is, as long as we swallow that c-r-a-p we're going to continue to feel that way. There's a reason behind societies' teaching this. A very good reason. The more we focus on our inability to find someone, feeling left behind, and feeling cheated, we will fail to see all the good things that God is already done and is doing for us. It also destroys our focus on Christ. Society wants you to focus on your lack. Jesus wants you seek first the kingdom of God.

Happy birthday, 'ole girl, from a guy thay knows old when he sees it! LOL! I should know, cuz I'm approaching the half-century mark!

Well, nice going Jullianna. No, really. This comes up a ridiculous amount on either the singles or teen forums. Seen it a few times where the same theme was repeated across two or three threads on the same forum page. Also, Happy Birthday. I hope you get a very nice '40' or "Over the hill" mug, or else, what's the point?
