It's solid as in it's not hollow, it's full of molten lead mostly. But from an engineering standpoint many hollow structures are stronger than their solid counterparts (any engineers here want to fact check that please?)

I just came across this scripture...

Ephesians 4:9: "He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth"

Seems to me that the surrounding verses are talking about God being both fully Spirit and fully Man, not the physical location of Hell.

When did scientists start saying this?
Supposedly they estimate the diameter of the earth's core by measuring the seismic waves around the globe.

I don't recall where the articles are that mentioned that the core is increasing in size. Will have a search.

The rest of the scripture...

Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.

It's talking about how Christ went to "paradise" and took to Heaven all those who had believed in Him prior to His death.

Yes, that too. But it's still not talking about the physical location of Hell.

I've never heard that one. What translation are you using?
Even the Apostle's Creed says:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell.

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,
and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Hmm... okay, the NRSV isn't much different from that BUT there's still no mention of descending into Paradise.

Ephesians 4:9 is talking about Christ's descent to earth - when he became a man. "(In saying, He ascended, what does it mean but that he also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)"

"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Rev.22:14

As in, you won't be eating from the tree of life if you don't keep His commandments? As in, you'll be dead? As in, not alive? That seems an impossible concept for people to understand. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." It doesn't say, "whoever believes in Him shall not descend into eternal torment,'' does it? It says PERISH, as in DEAD, as in NOT ALIVE?

No no. The place where the demons don't want to go is over there in that supermassive black hole in the heart of our neighboring galaxy M87. ;)

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish (experience death eternal, as in be separated from God) but may have eternal life.

John 3:16 NRSV (my words in brackets)

That is true death is contrasted with life. People are not given eternal life regardless of whether we are good or bad. Only the righteous receive immortality.
1 Corinthians 15:52-54 KJV
(52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
(53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
(54) So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Clearly this verse tells us that God's people receive immortality at the last trump, they do it now or the Bible tells lies.

Both Heaven and Hell are spiritual realms so I don't know why they would be physical places. The New Heaven and the New Earth, on the other hand, will be a perfect combination of the beautiful physicality of Earth and the spiritual holiness of Heaven.
I don't see why spiritual realms can't be in physical places.

If hell is the core of the earth (which I don't believe) then where do you think heaven is?
