It has more to do with spiritual equivalence than if they are a Christian or not, that part's obvious. People are at different points in their walk with Christ though. You might have two electricians, one a journeyman, and the other just starting out, and they're not going to work that well together because the newbie is going to be asking questions or the Journeyman has to correct them on something. It makes the newbie feel anxious about their work, and the Journeyman annoyed. It's similar with Christian relationships. in a relationship, the woman is to be the man's most trusted advisor. It's hard to be an advisor if the person you're advising doesn't know what you're talking about, or the advisor has nothing to say. It's really hard for a man to choose a direction to go If he has no idea whom or what to consult, or when he can't rely on his other half to do anything other than look pretty. A yoke is used as it sybolizes a binding between the two that is very strong. Where one person goes, the other will be forced to go, and they can either be in equilibrium, or face abrasion and wear. If one person walks slower than the other, the cart that's being pulled, we'll call it "life", will just keep going in circles. People who are brand new to the faith will be like trying to maintain the same pace as a child. People who take bits and pieces, or aren't following in the faith will be like walking with the crippled. Granted, a non-believer will be like a dead weight at the back of the cart. A person just being a Christian is the most important foundation, but it goes beyond that if you want a smooth (er) running machine. This goes for non-romantic relationships as well.

WHAT?!? Tandemtruths said what? I had to put on my readin' glasses & read it again! I just have one question: Where did you get that paragraph at?;):p:rolleyes:

God can lead you to marry anyone cus through marriage you can bring someone to faith. If Prophet Hosea could get married to a hooker (it's in the bible) cus God told him to.. then I don't see why wouldn't you date someone non-christian if it's God's will. But I Would rather date someone who would appreciate God. Cus God is the only part of me that is the most important thing to consider and respect.

Hosea is the only righteous man in the Bible to do this, & then because God told him to, otherwise he would have never done it.

God allowed that happened to Hosea with an specific purpose, and it wasn't for him to marry her and disobey God's will in his children... because if you read the whole scriptures... separated from that specific story... you'll see how God is protective with Israel people telling them to only marry women of the same lineage or descendants. And this is what God says in the new testament.
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? [SUP]15 [/SUP]What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? [SUP]16 [/SUP]What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:“I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

[SUP]17 [/SUP]Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”

[SUP]18 [/SUP]And,“I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

There are many stories about christian men or women married with unbelievers... and God may be merciful and forgive their disobedience... but will we live only of God's mercy all the time? We should seek to live of God's blessings that are even greater when we obey what he says :D

God can lead you to marry anyone cus through marriage you can bring someone to faith. If Prophet Hosea could get married to a hooker (it's in the bible) cus God told him to.. then I don't see why wouldn't you date someone non-christian if it's God's will. You don't need to date to see the difference between a Christian and a non-Christian. Just step back and look at both. Now apply that to dating. Question answered.

I think many here have missed the OP's point. He's not looking to date a non-christian, he's looking to date a christian but just wants to know how it will be different because he's never dated one before.

Most of you here have missed the OP's point. He's not looking to date a non-christian, he's looking to date a christian but just wants to know how it will be different.

Actually I have no preference at all on whether someone is a believer or not (as long as I screen out the reaaaaallly bad ones, lol) . You are right though, just any noticeable differences based on your personal experiences.

I've dated guys who said they were Christians, but were not. It was....empty and the temptations were overwhelming.

My faith in Christ is the core of who I am. A non-Christian would never get me because they could never get that.

P.S. Tandem, please post more. Seriously :)

you have to be completely convicted in your faith be strong so you aren't comprising yourself or pushing christ to the side. I'm on the fence about it because it wasn't too long ago were I was unsaved and didn't know christ. someone open their heart and showed me his love. I've dated both the last person was a Christian and it was amazing and very different he sadly passed a few months agoits awesome when you can praise together its what made the relationship special. it stood out like we as Christians are suppose. to.:

I had experiences with both.

My non-practicing Christian believed in God, but that's it. He put no importance to Him, nor he could understand why we should rely on God if he could rely on himself. He's a nice, sweet, manly gentleman, but that's it. I couldn't tolerate his deviated perspective on God anymore (although I understand why he had such a distorted understanding). I could also feel myself drifted away from God, and with that came along more troubles each day. We broke up and he couldn't understand a thing (he wouldn't be able to understand or take it anyway if I said the real reason). Awkward friendship after that.

Another occasion, I had a practicing Christian bf. We shared the same values and principles. We prayed together, prayed for each other when one had a trouble. We grew together in faith, as well as in our relationship with each other. It was definitely much easier because we didn't argue about importance on God, telling our future children about God, etc. However, it didn't work out because finally we both felt it wasn't the design for us. Years after the "break up" I can look back and praised God that we both heard His voice and not pushing our will to be together; 'cause we are not meant for each other in a marriage term. But we are still good friends until now, and now I'm a good friend to his wife too. No awkward moment whatsoever before and after the relationship.

Hope this helps giving the slightest view of both :)

I ve had experience dating non-christian and I wuld say it was the worst thing happend to me in my life. I was born in a believers family, brought up with good christian values, been to many christian ministries and also received Lord Jesus and took baptism very young. Despite all these I could nt beleive i had fallen for a guy who drew me into his world rather me sticking to my faith and brining him to God. I started doing things which i never did before...like u said, partying, movies, outing with non believers. All this I did, coz I loved him more than God, I gave him first priority in life which i should not have. But then I realised later that i was getting away from God and family, so finally broke up with him which I dont regret now. I am still single and all I ask God is to do his will in my life. Like David said in Psalms - I have sinned against God - it applies to me as well and I know that God has created me for some purpose now and I follow his instructions no matter what. All I ask God is - Lead me into the paths of righteousness. Unfortunately I never got a chance to date a believer so far, but I am sure dating a believer would be like growing more in God as you can share every spiritual experience with them. And being with the believer teaches you to walk with God and to make him the first priority in life.

I tend to have more in common with non-Christians guys than Christian guys...
Unless they are hardcore Atheists or something, and don't believe in anything spiritual or miraculous whatsoever. Then that could be a major clash.

Quite honestly, I think I would clash personalities with the majority of dudes on this website. The only reason it isn't obvious to others is because I post on arguing threads as little as possible.

Eccleslastes life without God is meaningless like chasing the wind.Remember as believers we are in another kingdom going a diffrent way from the world.Light can't have fellowship with darkness.Every christian who loves Jesus and has made the mistake of dating a non believer has regretted it, why? Because they are a new creation who loves Jesus. The world is antichrist

Yea, some of them definitely draw you into backsliding. lol. I had to force myself to quit hanging out with the type of women I used to go for because I always get drawn into pre-marital sex/partying every time. I used to be very wild and it wasn't easy to quit that kind of thing. I probably should have been more detailed in my original post but I'm mainly just curious as to if someone being a believer is a good reason to assume that they are better mates and more trustworthy just based on that by itself. I would like to think so but I have no personal experience.
nope you need to watch how they grow as a Christian. plus saying "im a christian" doesn't make a person a Christian. what I mean is they may not really believe it and that's a nightmare waiting to happen.

My advice on this is not to commit to such relationship. You should not even be friends with unbelievers in the first place. Don't get me wrong, you can talk with them and be friends with them the way Jesus Christ was with the republicans and others, but they should not be in the circle of your close friends. Jesus had lots of friends including prostitutes, the woman caught in adultery, a witch, Mary Magdalene, among many others, but He only had 12 disciples.

So if you're supposed to be careful who you make your friends, don't you think you really need to watch who you date? If your relationship ever leads to marriage, what will you teach your children? What will be the focal point of your relationship? That is just starting a relationship on a very faulty foundation.

2 Corinthians 6:14: Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

If you go deep down to the meaning of the word "yoke" it means a very close relationship, an example would be marriage, or even dating. If He or she is not a really good Christian, one who's life bears the fruit of the spirit such as love, peace, truth, meekness, among others, including a heart for God, then such relationship is not right. In fact, that love is a love amiss.

The devil knows God has a plan for you, for your life, just as God has plans for the life of every Christian, he would bring distractions like that into your life. That's why we need to walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:16) rather than through our flesh. We do not live our lives by our emotion, as Christians, children of God, the Word of God should rule our decision instead of our emotion. Emotion fades, it is deceptive, but the Word of God is constant, never changing, always enduring and abounding through all ages.

Word of caution and advice: When in doubt do without, let the Word of God be your guide. A word is enough for only the wise.

Bless your soul.

I have never dated a woman who IS a christian. So I can only speak from the perspective of dating unbelievers.

I have found in my own experience, that if we ARE NOT both building a relationship upon the same foundation (Christ), then the house (relationship) is gonna fall once when the storm comes. So I would liken a christian dating a non-christian to the foolish man who built his house upon the sand.

I am certain that had I been like the wise man; and made sure both of us had our relationship founded upon rock (Jesus) that we would have had a far better chance of withstanding the storms that came our way.

Yes, I do realize that I used this parable in a different context than what Jesus did, but it does work when applied here. Bottom-line, I don't recommend it.

Hosea and his marriage to a prostitute was a real story, not just a fiction to illustrate Christ and the Church. Moreover, the allegory is about God and Israel.
