Julianna's post in the 'I have a bad view of women in general' thread has gotten me thinking. The post was saying that it takes strength to be a lady- and being a lady is not a sign of weakness that many people believe it may be (hope you don't mind that I referenced you, Jullianna). So my question to you is, what does it take to be a lady? What does this look like to you? Is it the Proverbs woman, or something altogether different? Guys, feel free to post, your perspective is welcome here.

I don't mind at all, arwen. :) I'm interested in seeing what others think a lady truly is as well!

I do think it takes strength I think that we dig ourselves holes HUGE ones and we have to climb our way out. That may be tough. But its easy just to be the woman that god desires. We just let others influence is all

Two important requirements that a lot of christian women seem to forget:

to internally: adorn youself with the 'imperishable quality of a gente and quiet spirit'- 1 peter 3:4

externally: you can (and should lol) wear jewelry/make up- song of solomon 4:7

its definetly plays a part in being feminine, i find it 'kind of creepy' seing some women without make-up

If a woman wants to look like she just woke up, then let her be. If she wants to cake on the make-up, then let her be. If she wants to wear hoops, loops, rings, studs, spikes, chains, and tattoos, then let her be. I believe this is one of those topics that only women can respond to.

I'm feminine enough on the inside.
God didn't make me a girly-girl.

I believe you are completely wrong. Ever since the feminist movement, western society has attempted to close the gap between the difference in appearance of the two genders. And just like with many cultural trends, the church has bought in. But in mark 10:6 Jesus says that God purposely placed the distinction their from the beginning, and Deuteronomy 22:5 teaches that men and women are to have a completely different style of clothing.

Now, if a woman specifically desires not to wear make-up (for some unknown reason), that is not in and of itself a sin, but if she fails to make a distinction between her physical adornment and that which typically pertains to a man, that is a sin. 1 Corinthians 6:9 says something very similar with regards to the conduct of men, it teaches that if a man practices and behaves in a feminine manner, he is not even saved.

The reason why this issue is important is that when we start to lose our imagery distinction between the genders, we start to lose the biblical distintion of requirments for the two genders. That will place us in conflict with the work of God desires to complete on this earth. He has designed us genetically different so that we can full fill different purposes spiritually and practically: 1 Timothy 2:12, Titus 2:4-5, 1 Corinthians 11, Ephesians 5:22-33, proverbs 31, 1 Timothy 5:8 etc

I can agree with more than half of what you're saying, but I just think that it would be more logical for an older woman, to teach the younger women how to be a Lady. Just as it it says Titus 2:1-5.

2 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine
:
[SUP]2 [/SUP]That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.[SUP]3 [/SUP]The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;[SUP]4 [/SUP]That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, [SUP]5 [/SUP]To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

GOD can fashion a REAL LADY. so its more on walking with HIM, there is a lady in here really that i have considered to be awesome. really, and i have not told her, and i am not looking for a relationship. but her relationship with God is what i love about her hahaha.. so i would say what makes a real lady is her humble, commited, good and honest relationship that she has with GOD

Wow, I don't want this to become the Makeup and jewelry or no makeup and Jewelry thread. No offense but that should be in a different place. I personally will not comment about that here.

I'm not sure what it takes to be a Lady. I'm just as curious as anyone.

I think I'm a bit strange in this, but I feel that a "lady" is different than a "godly woman/woman of God". Sure, a godly woman can be a lady or have lady-like qualities, but I don't think they're entirely interchangeable. The connotation of a lady, to me, is all about appearances. Look nice, mind your manners, don't burp in front of anyone, sit up straight, etc. But being a godly woman has more to do with the heart, the spirit, and the love of the Lord.

Just my take. :)

Personally, I think having class and a soft heart are two characteristics among others that come to mind, and that I strive for. For me, a soft heart is the hardest to achieve, because that means I must give up cynicism and begin to trust more. That will be a lifelong task that me and God will have to work on.

I agree with S4T that really only other women can say what a lady is like, but I can't avoid my own opinion either.

I have one thing, and one thing only to say. A lady doesn't dress like a hoochie.
