Hey Everyone!

After watching a debate in another thread about whether or not the discussion of chicken lines up with the Word of God, I was wondering what actions/words/phrases/events in your life might SEEM like a sin to you, but really are not.

Here are some examples:

1. I was raised in a conservative, "everything according to the program, stand-up, sit-down, all on cue and only when the cue is given" church. I now love going to contemporary services in other churches... but standing up, swaying to the music, and clapping still sometimes feels... uncomfortable... due to my old church culture.

2. My parents (most especially my Mom) are SUPER CLEAN... and so leaving a dirty dish in the sink feels like a sin (that never happens at my parents' house... honest.)

3. Going to get groceries at 10 PM at night almost feels like a sin because of the many years I had a 9 PM curfew. I still feel a little rebellious going out at night! :)

4. Living in a household where my parents often got up at 4 and 5 in the morning... sleeping in until 7 AM definitely feels like grounds for judgment!!

5. I suppose eating half a chocolate cake by oneself is technically NOT a sin, but... you know... :) It sure does feel pretty sinful! :D

How about all of you? What habits/lifestyle choices/topics almost feel sinful to you because of past regulations... but really are nothing to worry about? (Well... according to some people...) :)

Working and resting. Let me explain a little more. I was raised in a poorish home. My parental unit would work hard on their own to support the house and kids. Just as the unit's father and mother worked even hard to support their 4 or more children. And when I'm working hard I'm told by my grandparent to relax because there is no reason for me to work hard. And then when I do relax I get heck from another because I looked too relaxed and should work harder. I try and make them happy by the example they've displayed in the past. But it's hard to follow everyone's orders especially when they all contradict each other.

Waking up at 3am to make monkey bread for one.

Staying up all night watching the extended edition of LOTR.

Sink Abominations ARE A SIN, at least to me.

Very nice. I had a few semesters where a couple of days a week I didn't have class until noon. But that's when I was scheduled to work at 6 in the morning, so I had to get up at 5:15 instead of being able to sleep in. THAT should be a sin! That is way too early.

Ok, now this should DEFINITELY be classified under "Things Currently Under Consideration" when it comes to The Big List of Sinning...

Or at the very least, it's something that should be met with a smack upside the head (with a clean hand, of course!)

Due to medical advice, I have been trying to cut carbs in my diet and, while I don't want to become a fanatic, spent five minutes in the produce aisle last week debating on whether or not I could eat a white potato. I finally put not one, but TWO of the darn things in my cart and stubbornly thought, "If I go to hell for eating a potato, so be it!!"

Never mind the two boxes of 75% off Valentine candy in the cart right next to the potatoes. I'm sure that doesn't count as carbs at all!! :D

Shopping at a store that sells alcohol. The county that I grew up in, and still live in today was a dry county up till about 15 years ago. Well, I remember when they voted in alcohol all the preachers around here started saying that it was wrong for a christian to shop at a store that sells it, and we should all trade at a place that does'nt sell it. Well, that worked out ok for the first few years, but now all the grocery stores here and almost all the gas stations here sells it, so you don't have a choice anymore. You either shop there or go hungry. Even the preachers that were telling us it was wrong shops in those places now. I never believed it was a sin and still don't, but sometimes I still feel like I'm doing something wrong, when I have to walk down the beer isle to get to the milk and bread lol.
