I put my two cents in on a forum thread today (on a secular mom/baby/birth board) about how to handle the topic of homosexuality when your children start to ask questions.

I've been monitoring it all day and reading people's responses to the topic itself and to see what they say about my reply. As you might expect most replies were pro-gay, love is love no matter who it is, blah blah blah. Well, out of 130+ replies so far and at least 80 different people, about 5 of us said that we would stick up for our Biblical roots and teach our children that being gay is something God doesn't approve of...BUT to treat everyone the same regardless. Basically: love the person but not the sin.

So... getting to the topic's title... I do not want to be considered a "Christian" anymore because... of the 75ish other people who were pro-gay and "it's not a choice, just let everyone believe what they want, don't be a homophobe, etc etc" SOOOO many said "I'm a Christian BUT!.." "I'm a Christian BUT.." and most of those ladies went on to say that they only go to churches that teach love and equality to all. Or they are a Christian but they don't go to church or practice anything that they've been taught.

I'm rambling.. but I want a new "name" to go by. All of these extremelyyyyyyyy liberal "Christians" who say that basically they love God but ANYTHING and EVERYTHING goes because God is a god of love and nothing more.. give us all a bad name.

They won't stop calling themselves Christians because they honestly believe that it's okay to be a Christian and follow only the nice, fluffy, rainbowy, love parts of the Bible. So the God-loving, God-fearing folks who realize that all of the Bible is truth and don't pick and choose need something else to go by. (I know none of us are perfect... but come on! God is loving but also jealous and just. There is more to Christianity than God loves everyone... He sure does! But He also wants us to obey certain things so that we can experience every blessing He has in store for us & for us to fulfill His plan for our lives.)

I don't want to be known as a Christian anymore!

I realize I'm probably not actually using the word liberal correctly here. I just use that as an adjective too often to mean basically the secular views on life, i guess?

I know exactly how you feel. The Apostles called themselves Disciples of Christ, not Christians.

"Christian," is equaled to the word, hypocrisy. There are a lot of agruments about if being gay is right or not? However, If us "christians," would look at the dusty scriptures sitting on our book shelf, we would know the answer.

I know a kid who admited that he was gay, but has aloud G-d to change him. I mean you can tell he was recovering from the bad habit of mixed emotions, but he said he himself felt a evil spirit come out of him (plus you can see the postive effects.)

It would make sense if someone feels they were born gay, because we are born in a sinful world so...

I go by the term: "Spirtual Theist." Also because of my view on the orgins of life. Just read the scriptures and ignore christian opioions.

I never wanted to be called Christian in the first place. Not for the reasons you stated. Actually, your post made me slightly uncomfortable, because gays can't really control the way they are and it's a very touchy subject. I know you were just speaking your mind though, but I'm still commenting on it, lol.

But all that aside, I don't like being clumped into categories in general. I am an open-minded person, and the Christian stereotype is often seen as the opposite....

BIBLE BELIEVING CHRISTIAN

Which is a fairly clear distinction... because THEY do not, and you can use the distinctive moniker as a springboard for conversation to set yourself apart and clarify the matter. YOu will of course lose a few "friends".

I was just telling someone this the other day. The term "Christian" is way over-used.

As for the gay thing I never argue about homosexual marriage (although I don't agree with the idea myself) but I do say that I don't believe someone is "gay" unless they act on it sexually. It is even wrong for heterosexual individuals to be sexually involved with people outside of marriage. Unfortunately, there is that key word "marriage" once again. I can't make an argument against it when it comes to conversing with people who aren't part of the body of Christ. In fact, I can even think of reasons why it could be okay. I won't go there.

I understand what your saying but you also have to understand God and if it is you say you dont want to be labelled a christian because of a minority then you are also saying you dont want to be apart of jesus ......we are to be followers of christs and pleasers of God not man despite of people opinion...im personally going tostand on my believes and on God's word no matter what and Im proud to be a christian because my God said greater is he that is in me that he that is in the world he is my abba father and I cannot deny him or he will deny me.......I so understand your hurt and it is only because of the love you have for God dont allow the devil to use this to deny or cripple your faith in our God .......God bless also remember death and life is in the power of your tongue.

I think you misunderstood where I was coming from with that post. I have low self-esteem. It isn't that I hold what other people think that high. I just hold myself very low sometimes (bad habit).

So I'm easily swayed by other people's negative misunderstandings of me. Sometimes to the point where it cripples my ability to function in society. I know this is probably TMI but I hate being misunderstood and I just wanted to be clear.
I do not want peoples approval. I JUST WANT THEM TO LEAVE ME ALONE and not judge me.

I don't know what God thinks of me. But I obviously hold his opinion higher than that of humans. Whether I use the label "Christian" to describe my beliefs or not doesn't make a difference to God. He sees my heart. Christian is just a word used by society.

Bible believing Christian does seem to be a better name. I know it's not even the label or whatever that matters.. But sheesh! I want to be able to say I am a _______ and have that be a basis to start a conversation or something. Because earlier on.. Saying you're a Christian actually meant something other than: Hypocritical, women-hating, gay-hating, shove my beliefs down your throat people. It meant something more to the tune of: caring, helpful, monogamous, joyful people who stood up for the morals and values that have been around for centuries and didn't let culture sway them. That's not all that accurate but you're get what I'm saying.

If I were to tell someone I am a: Bible believing Christian, Christ follower, Jesus follower, Biblical theologian or whatever and have that mean something positive and have whoever I said it to already know the basics of what that meant so I can go into detail and not have to start from the very beginning and stick up for myself as to why I'm not x, y, z.

How do you expect to bring people to Christ when the second you find out they are born a certain way, you condemn them as living in sin (more than normal people) and basically say they're monsters for living the way they were born. Mormons could use you...

I don't like the term "christian" because it's meaning has become too skewed, and attached to so many ungodly ways. It's not just homosexuality. All the sins are given sanction in far too many "christian" venues.

It's the same reason I hate the words demon, rapture, and tribulation.

I tell people I'm Jewish by adoption. When they question that, I say I was brought into the promise of Abraham by the sacrifice of Christ.

They stand already condemned just like thieves, liars, adulterers, mockers, etc. We only have to show them WHY they are condemned. They will then have a choice to believe the Truth or perish in their sin. Depending how hard their heart is, the faster God can work in them.

They are living in sin if they sleep with someone of the same sex. If they feel homosexual but never act on it then they aren't. It's the act that matters. And I never called them or anyone else monsters, so don't put those words into my mouth (or fingers or whatever). I'm not even close to fitting into a Mormon way of believing but thanks. And condoning sexual sin be it adultery, fornication or homosexuality are all very unChristian-like. You can't read the Bible and say that those things are okay.

It makes me sad that the people my age and the ones growing up behind me are all in the mindset that most Bible-believing Christians are close minded.. And that we need to open our minds to more possibilities.

I don't just go around openly bashing or confronting homosexuals at all. I'm not filled with hatred like everyone thinks Christians are. I just don't approve of their lifestyle and if they ask I'll say something. Same with drunks, psychics, prostitutes, etc.

True, true. Lusting is wrong regardless.. But I feel like its much easier for someone to control their thoughts when they aren't acting them out physically as well?

There is definitely a lot of misunderstanding about what a Christian actually is. I think the term has come to mean different than what it use to represent.

Once I was out to dinner with some friends, and friends of friends. A lady I didn't know said to another woman I was with, "Oh I'm Christian and a Buddhist." I almost choked on my salad as I was eating it!

John 3:16 ;)
