My first engagement ring was a cubic zirconia ($100) and we had a couple sets of inexpensive wedding ring because we both liked rings -- one set in plain gold, then a set of Black Hills Gold rings, and also a set of rings from the movie, "The Crow", if anyone remembers it (the engraving on the bands said, "Real Love Never Dies".) Ironic, I know.
If I marry again, I'd like to get some kind of engagement gift for my fiance as well... and it would be important to me for us to have matching rings. But, if he didn't like wearing a ring, or if he were allergic (as my brother is), I would ask him to wear it on a chain if he could (which is what my brother does--the chain doesn't bother him but the ring turns his finger green.)
If jewelry wasn't an option, I would ask him to help me think of something else... It's just that, I've waited so long and have gone through so much heartache that I'd really love to have this amazing person I finally found to have a joint outer showing that we finally found and belong to each other.
I want something outward to say to the world, "I belong to this amazing man/woman who is a gift from God."
