Ok, so I'm seeing a big debate about it right now so I just want to know what you think Hell, well honestly I prefer the term Hades, is:
A. A forever burning fire pit that last forever and ever and ever and ever and EVER! Why do you believe that, who made it(Hades) that way, and is it fair/just
B. A tempery(allowed to die)burning fire pit the last depending on how great your sins were. Why do you believe that, who made it(Hades) that way, and is it fair/just
C. Is it just death, no 'punishment'(in quotes because there are people that would see it that way), no fire. Why do you believe that, who made it(Hades) that way, and is it fair/just.

Only rule: when quoting scripture please put it in a way a 14 year old can completely understand, but put the actual quote there if you want.

Thank you for your time. God bless and have a nice day.

Hell is a place that was origanlly made for satan and his followers for disobeying God, it is known as hades as well or the lake of fire. Now as to if it is fair or not Think about this- Say there was a man who loved to kill and steal and decieve, He craved it and took such joy in it he did this every day his whole life. Now there was also a woman, who love god and was careful to follow all his ways and all his hearts desires. But both of them go to heaven, now do you think it is fair that the man who did such awful things was not acounted for them and made it to heaven as if it never happened? If it worked that way we could live however we wanted and yet still make it to heaven. But there is for sure an afterlife, there is no death and then thats it other wise there would be no god.

From what I understand so far from scriptures, it seems to be forever. For the sakes of those down there I wish it is not, I would wish that on anyone, but is for sure is real.

Well, it's more than just a "fire pit". It's a place where God's presence is totally removed. That in and of itself is torture, in my eyes. God made hell as a place of punishment for those who choose not to accept His truth.

Scripture is pretty clear that it's a place of eternal punishment. If it was temporary, then why should I accept Jesus at all? Why shouldn't I just live my life the way I want to and do whatever I want since my punishment would only be temporary?

Is it fair? Is that for me to say? I didn't create the entire universe using only my words, so therefore the rules aren't up to me. ;) There are many things that I don't think are fair, or that make me wonder, but all in all I know that is not my place to decide.

I say A and C... together... Hell is forever... but your soul is destroyed in it... Throw a bird into a fireplace... That's hell... it burns up and is destroyed into a pile of ash. The bird dies, but the fires keep burning. And I'm sure it wasn't a happy experience for the bird.

How can someone who is dead (i.e., without Christ), have life in death (have immortality but forced to endure terrible pain forever and ever)? It makes no sense. The bible talks about your soul being destroyed. No where does it say that the soul is immortal and God can't destroy it. He can and he will in hell...

i believe option A because it is what the bible teaches...

eternal punishment actually -is- 'fair' because there are only two possibilities...the bible does not leave any room for individual people being 'pretty righteous' or 'kinda wicked'...you are either righteous by faith or wicked...

so there are no degrees in between...you either get the full reward of righteousness...or you get the full punishment for wickedness...

Ok everyone Here's why I like option B. Depending on how bad your sins were that's how long you burn, those flames feel so hot that even 5 sec. Fells like forever.
The gravity of your sin is how long you will feel it, then when it's over you will die, others who have do worse will see that and think it's over but it will still go on until that dept was paid in full. After all the bad people are gone the last thing they'll ever know is angish and suffering.
Prefectly fair and jusr.

A fireplace has ordinary fire that is subject to the laws of thermodynamics. The fuel source is finite, therefore the fire will go out sooner or later. Water can quench it. Even the Sun will eventually exhaust its own fuel-supply and become a black hole. But the lake of fire is eternal because it is supernatural. The human soul is immortal and will burn in Hell forever.

The words of Jesus Christ:

Matthew 25

[SUP]31 [/SUP]“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. [SUP]32 [/SUP]All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. [SUP]33 [/SUP]He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
[SUP]34 [/SUP]“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. [SUP]35 [/SUP]For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, [SUP]36 [/SUP]I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
[SUP]37 [/SUP]“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? [SUP]38 [/SUP]When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? [SUP]39 [/SUP]When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
[SUP]40 [/SUP]“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
[SUP]41 [/SUP]“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. [SUP]42 [/SUP]For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, [SUP]43 [/SUP]I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
[SUP]44 [/SUP]“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
[SUP]45 [/SUP]“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
[SUP]46 [/SUP]“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

I didn't say anything about Hell not being eternal... and those verses only address that. No where does it say the soul is immortal unless they are given eternal life. And God is God... what kind of God could not destroy an immortal soul especially if he made it to begin with? So yeah... I think when you go to hell, your soul is destroyed (obliterated)... the second death.

As I said... how can someone who is dead, have eternal life? That's basically what the soul burns forever in hell people are saying. You have eternal life... with a pike up your bum and roasting like a marshmallow.

Let's not just give this person our opinions....let's give them the word of God. Let's make full proof of our ministry.....

Isa.66
[15] For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
[16] For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.
[23] And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
[24] And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

God's word tells us when He returns He will punish those that have transgressed, or broken His laws, and they will be in a place where their worms will not die, nor will their fire be quenched. Let's read more....

Mark 9
[43] And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
[44] Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Sounds like the same place spoken of in Isa.66. Let's prove this further....

Rev.19
[20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Now let's read how long Satan was bound....

Rev.20
[2] And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
[3] And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Now understand.....Hell will be the final place for all that transgress God. Note above that Satan was not cast into Hell...but some other place where He could no longer deceive the nation unitl the 1000 years were over.

Now let's read what happened 1000 years after the above took place;

Rev.20
[7] And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
[8] And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
[9] And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

Now let's read where Satan will be cast after the final battle and WHO he will find there....

Rev.20
[10] And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

So even AFTER 1000 years, the beast and the false prophet were YET in the lake of fire. They were still there AFTER 1000 years when Satan joins them.

The above are facts from the word of God.....not opinions!

Hope this helps.

Also...does it really take 1000 years for a soul to be destroyed "Obliterated"?

And yet the beast and the false prophet were both there in the lake of fire waiting for their friend Satan to join them AFTER 1000 years;

Rev.20
[10] And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Not eternal life but eternal destruction. What we think of as "death" is actually just a transition, just the falling away of the flesh.

Everyone will live forever. Everyone will be made into spirit beings. The only difference is WHERE you will dwell; Will you dwell in God's kingdom or in the Lake of Fire!

And YES.....you decide which dwelling place it will be!

Decisions, decisions!

The concept of a soul is Greek dualism. The Hebrew concept of a soul - nephesh - was the whole person. And really, who has ever separated their soul from their body? The Greek concept of soul, also included the body as being evil and bad, something to escape, which is not what the Hebrews believe. They celebrated life, and that God created our bodies and said they were good.

I think for me, the only thing that matters is being separated from God. Whether soul, body or something else, hell is to never be in the presence of God. We only have a glimpse of God, though a glass darkly (1 Cor. 13:12) but in eternity we will be in his presence - that is the message of salvation. It is about our relationship with Christ, not where we will or will not go.

No my friend, I do not choose where I want to go. To say I do would say that I choose to have this mentality. I have no choice, none.

Everyone will live forever. Everyone will be made into spirit beings. The only difference is WHERE you will dwell; Will you dwell in God's kingdom or in the Lake of Fire!

And YES.....you decide which dwelling place it will be!

Decisions, decisions!

It doesn't matter which option you "like" the most. ;) I don't really "like" that there's a hell at all, but that's not up to me.

Can you define what "bad" sins are and what "less bad sins" would be, in your terms? How long would the punishments be? Who would decide that?

Sin is sin to God. While there are varying degrees and consequences here on earth (cheating on a test is less extreme and has less consequences than shooting someone), both are sins and both separate you (general you) from God.

@Angela

How is dualism a bad thing? Christianity is comprised of dualistic ideas! Also, do I detect some Gnostic sentiment in what you just wrote?
