This thread reminded me of something that happened to me about a year ago. I thought I would share it here.

I met a woman and we had a mutual interest in one another.
I really liked her and thought we were off to a great start. We were reading the bible together on a regular basis and things seemed to be going well.

As time passed, she began to tell me about all of the material things that she wanted and how she believed that it was the duty of the man to give his wife all of these things. She listed off a lot of things from a $10k bed to a $1k motorcycle outfit. She kept asking, "Would you be willing to get me these things?" I was unsure as to how to respond because the list was getting larger and larger and became a bit overwhelming. I told her, "I would be willing." Then I asked her, "What if I was unable to get you any of these things?" She again assured me that it was the man's duty and that he should do everything necessary to make it happen. I was perplexed but continued to work through this with her.

Later she came to me and said she was visited by a man. She said that this man had come to warn her. Her claim was that the man did not know me personally and had told her that I had money problems. I was perplexed. I assured her that I would pray about this.

After a few days, I came back and told her that I agreed that I had money problems but that it was not specifically with money, but with the love of money.

Within a couple of weeks she decided that things were not going to work out between us. I was left hurt and confused.

Just wanted to share.

you can make the effort to clean yourself up and look decent without having to have a lot of money. I manage. So could any guy who wanted a shot with me. It's a moot point at this juncture though, since apparently no dudes want a shot with me. lol....meh.

Just wanted to share.

What a horrible experience, Markum1972. Thanks for sharing that with us. Hopefully you were able to grow from that experience.

It really makes me sad to hear of Christians being that materialistic. I would never want my husband to spend $10k on a bed. Actually there are very few things I can think of that I think paying 10k would be acceptable for.

Sounds like she had her priorities out of whack, Markum. It's not a husband's "duty" to provide his wife with frivolous spending. Hopefully you do not run into more women/Christians like that. :)

I'm quite sure many are. It's called hyprocrisy.

FireWire, I've seen many of your posts in which you've talked about women being materialistic... I'm sorry you've had such bad experiences.

But we're not all like that. Some of us have jobs and earn our own way. And some of us have been on the opposite site, supporting men. To say all women are apparently like the ones you've met and dated just isn't right.

Guys, lay off Seoul. Not cool. Not cool at all.

TinTin, I try to tell you how much I appreciate you... And I just wanted to tell you again! Thank you for not assuming I'm as bad as some apparently think I am, lol. :) You're pretty awesome, too.

Wow! That's pretty insane. Thank God he spared you of this woman..sounds like bad news waitin' to happen. Sorry you were hurt so much by it though..but think what pain God prob. spared you from that you have no idea about. He can redeem any situation for sure! Just look at you now...kickin' in the devil's teeth daily...oh,I should correct that..he has no teeth. Yer' kickin' his buns. LOL (nothing scripture - wise to support that the devil may or may not have buns..thus,I am goin' with "has buns",thus to be kicked!) Selah.

I agree, Markum... It makes me shake my head that people really act like this towards others, especially some women.

I'm so sorry you had to go through this but I'm so glad you were spared from wasting anymore time on a person who obviously didn't value the extremely compassionate, thoughtful, and caring person that you are!

I assure you though, we are not all like that. I had an older man tell me once while I was at work, "If you just followed me home like a little puppy, I could buy you jewels, clothes, and cars..."

I looked straight at him and said, "Sir, as you can see, I have a job. Anything I need or want, I can work for myself."

He was literally speechless--I guess he wasn't used to women saying they can work hard and earn their own way.

I've heard the saying "money is the root of all evil" and I believe it. I prefer a humble life. Plus since I'm single, if I want money I can work on getting it myself. I'm not going to expect my future partner to do something I'm not willing to do myself, so I will work on being the person I'd like to be with. :)

You could have responded with "Can I chew everything to shreds, make a mess with my food, eat everything in sight (even if it's not food), and pee on the floor like a little puppy too?"

That probably would left him speechless as well. ;)

LOL..yeah,the peeing on the floor is pretty much a deal breaker I'd think.

Wow, that's truly horrible. I think if you meet someone and they start talking about materialistic things and how they deserve this and that and that their future spouse has to provide that, then it's time to run as far away from that person. I mean, it's one thing if God blesses a couple with great finances that they can afford these things, but it's another if you can't afford that and expect it anyways.

While I know you were left hurt and confused, it is definitely a blessing in disguise that she decided to break things off. You are better off without a person like that in your life. There are plenty of great women out there who are the opposite of that.

How cool it would have been had she said instead ..
"Mark, I want "us" to work as hard as "we" can to help make all "our" dreams come true .."
I think sometimes key words are missed by people , what their future has in store for them ..
glad you were freed from that ..

That is TWICE this past week you had me cracking up.

Hmmm, the Lord leads, I read your responses, I should re-look at my OP and see IF all this correlates to what I was trying to say. I will say this: this thread is not about comparing guys who dress poorly and are christians versus those who dress richly and are not.

It IS about understanding that a guy who is seeking after God is going to be concerned completely with seeking God and His righteosness, and, He will know that 'these things' will be added to Him.

There is a book called 'Wild At Heart,' where Rutledge, the author says that guys want three things in life, I forget what they are but along , hmm done for now.

LOL..yeah,the peeing on the floor is pretty much a deal breaker I'd think.

*Note to self: Chewing things up, eating everything in sight, and making a mess with food is okay with iTOREtheSKY, just make sure not to pee on the floor, because that is the deal breaker* I just thought it was funny that you didn't mention the other things. :P

That is TWICE this past week you had me cracking up.

I don't know what the first time was, but I'm glad it was able to put a smile on your face! :)

Thanks for your empathy.

But the fact remains that other than looks a mans account balance is attractive to most women and therefore a deciding factor.

For the record the number of dates I've been on isn't more than the number of fingers I have.

Ran out of time for the edit.

Yes, of course I brought up the point of a God-fearing Christian because I'm forward enough to assume that's that Christians are looking for?

I never meant to imply that clothes or appearance were more important than faith or inner character, but merely that how you choose to present yourself can be an extension of your relationship with God.

Hey seoulseatch, either-way, I'm sorry if I came off as tacky.
