If you have time, this is the best bread in the world. It makes two huge loaves, so if you want just one split the recipe. It's challah bread with honey and it is delishhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I made this two days ago and it's nearly gone.
Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 8 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional)

Directions

In a large bowl, sprinkle yeast over barely warm water. Beat in honey, oil, 2 eggs, and salt. Add the flour one cup at a time, beating after each addition, graduating to kneading with hands as dough thickens. Knead until smooth and elastic and no longer sticky, adding flour as needed. Cover with a damp clean cloth and let rise for 1 1/2 hours or until dough has doubled in bulk.

Punch down the risen dough and turn out onto floured board. Divide in half and knead each half for five minutes or so, adding flour as needed to keep from getting sticky. Divide each half into thirds and roll into long snake about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Pinch the ends of the three snakes together firmly and braid from middle. Either leave as braid or form into a round braided loaf by bringing ends together, curving braid into a circle, pinch ends together. Grease two baking trays and place finished braid or round on each. Cover with towel and let rise about one hour.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Beat the remaining egg and brush a generous amount over each braid. Sprinkle with poppy seeds if desired.

Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for about 40 minutes. Bread should have a nice hollow sound when thumped on the bottom. Cool on a rack for at least one hour before slicing.

I know a recipe for some delicious foccacia bread:

In a small bowl combine:
1packet of fast yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup warm (not too warm) water
Let it stand for about 10 minute in a warm place. It should get all frothy.

In a large bowl combine:
3 cups of flour
1 cup of any cheese you want
1/4 cup of your favorite herb blends
1tbsp course salt

After your 10 minutes is up, pour your yeast mixture into the flour. Using a bread hook, or electric mixer, blend the ingredients adding wam water as needed until you get a firm, but slightly sticky dough. Knead it for about 1 minute on a lightly floured surface. Form a ball and put it in a bowl with room to grow in a warm place for 30 minutes. (I usually preheat my oven to 475F and let my dough rise on my warm stove top).

After 30 minutes, give it a good punch and put it in a rectangular, oven safe dish about 9 by 13 or so. On top rub a little olive or canola oil, put another 1/2 cup of cheese, 1/4 cup of herbs, and enough salt to lightly cover the top. Put in the oven at 475F for about 10 minutes, and then pull it out and enjoy.

My favorite thing is to sautee yellow squash, all sorts of bell pepper, and onion with garlic and red pepper flake. Then I cut my bread in half sandwhich style, smear the bread with some hummus and stuff it with the veggies. Oh man, you'll want seconds.

Baking really isn't that hard, and breads are easy, too. The rule with yeast is just not to use hot hot or cold cold water. If it feels comfortable on your skin and is neither warm or cool, you're good to go.
