I sympathize with the obese but I think it is not right for a Christian. We may say 'genes', sometimes it's a 'not so good upbringing' actually maybe almost all the time it is a 'not so good upbringing' therefore hard to place blame solely on an individual.
However the back has to stop somewhere. We will all give an account. It is quite hard/ if not impossible to prove or stand on the side of obesity if you go deep into the word of God/the bible.
It is important to mention that I was always skinny when younger and even now I'm just like normal weight but I like to think I'm not biased
There are so many reasons for weight problems, both over and under weight.
Don't forger being under weight can be just as bad, it's also possible that a person
can be just the right weight but still starving themselves nutritionally.
How one person can judge another in this matter is beyond me. The story about
taking the plank out of your own eye first comes to mind.
I have a lovely friend who was very over weight and had eating problems and food addictions
for all her adult life. She was brought up by an over bearing mum and while not abused, her
home environment fostered the problems she had with eating, despite her size she is a
spiritual giant compared to many around her. Her love of God, the way God speaks to her,
her insight is just amazing.
Last year she had a gastric bypass and has lost so much weight, it was a difficult process though
which also involved seeing a physiologist about her eating addictions. Medically it was also
challenging. She is now fitter, healthier, her blood pressure is normal, her diabetes has gone.
But do you think God loves her any more? Absolutely not His love is not dependant on our size.
To suggest over weight people are sinning, they must give an account for being over weight,
they are not blessed, they do not know God etc is outrageous and if anything, it reflects more
on the thinking of people who may suggest this. It shows they do not understand God's love,
forgiveness or actually know Him for themselves.
There are so many reasons and problems people have with their body image - don't spread
malicious lies and do Satan's work for him by bringing God into the equation and making out as
if they are condemned for it.
We all have our problems, our external comforts outside of God, individual fears, difficult times etc.
Not to mention medical ones.
It could happen to you, illness, stress, money problems, middle age spread etc.
Don't be so quick to assume you will not be touched by any of the above, because whether you
realise it or not the chances are that at some point in your life you will find yourself
putting on extra pounds and struggle to keep it off. I just hope by that time you will have
grown up a bit and won't feel condemned for putting weight on.
