Another 90s band, Deliverance. They had numerous albums, their earliest being speed metal until they changed sounds. But no screaming.
Lacey Sturm. She sang on the first 2 Flyleaf albums, then went on to be a solo artist.

Hmm... I recently stumbled across a band called Seventh Day Slumber. There are screaming parts, but no death vocals. Album is called Fractured Paradise - Garden of Shadows.
Old school band Bride recently released a double album, Vipers and Shadows.
There was a 90s band called Stavesacre. They had two awesome albums. 'Friction' and 'Absolutes'.
They are a bit on the heavier side, but no screaming or death vocals. Gr

I have to admit, we are not really doing as well as I think We are.
I have fallen back into the pitfall of sorrow and numbness, m-ion as a way to avoid the pain.and of course split personalitys don't help. it feels every few weeks, but could be every night, but we don't know. I'm so lost.

I see you've experienced the "Koontz Effect"
. I've gone many hours with food, sleep, and bathroom breaks trying to finish his books! And yes. In his earlier career, he had to write more detailed things (demands from publishers) but he's said he finds it very boring to write about. I agree that now when he throws in a line or two about that, it's to further our knowledge of the characters.

I finally bought my own copy of Lightning - the book that started it all. I only ever checked it out from the library, but it's been YEARS. It's funny how MUCH writing affects us... I've had it for 3 weeks, but it's still sitting on my coffee table, unopened. Two of my favorite characters don't make it, and I'm bracing myself to mourn them all over again.
There is a moment in one of the Jane Hawk books where she's threatening a bad guy, but you know, Mr. Koontz's heroes all have very strong moral compasses, and she doesn't go through with it. I was actually quite disappointed. I wanted to see a bad guy get his due!!
It's always interesting to me to see how different people like different things. You liked the seriousness of The Taking and that's exactly why I didn't like it, lol. So glad you're enjoying his work! I have to admit though, I don't enjoy some of his later works as much as the earlier ones. But I adore Mr. Koontz as a person and will always read his work because of that.
I love that you've taken the dive right into his work and will be eager to hear what you think about this one.
I have to confess, I really did not enjoy The Taking. None of his usual humor or wit.
I read that at the time, his publisher wanted a "serious" book. 
Funny that someone of his success still has to cater to the overlords.
I sent a friend I've known half my life pics of Mr. Dean's inscriptions to me. She said, "I never knew your name was spelled like that!!" Bingo!! That's exactly why it meant so much that he would take the time to notice, and the trouble to write it out. How have things been going in your corner of the world? This is just old Aunt Seoul checking up on you!

I love that Mr. Dean was "meta" WAY before being meta was even considered a thing!
Hope you are doing well and I'm so glad you're enjoying his books! 
But I started reading his books back when no one knew that The Book of Counted Sorrows didn't technically exist! Truth be told, my favorite of his books are probably still the ones I first read back in the 90's. I think it was in Mr. Murder that he had a quote from a book by Laura Shane... Laura is the main character of his book, Lightning, which is still my favorite.
He also said that over the years, tons of librarians had written him out of frustration in trying to find this "elusive" book. He finally decided to put all the verses into a real book. I've also seen some listings of The Book of Counted Joys... I may have to pick both of them up one of these days.
Alas, you have indeed gone from Grasshopper to Master! "Back in my day..." You probably read about the colorful history of the Book of Counted Sorrows... When I started reading his books, people would see it quoted and would try to go find the actual book... But no one could find it. Years later, Mr. Dean finally explained that it was a creation his own imagination when he needed a few lines of poetry for a book. -
