Kinda makes me want to do it more Posthuman.... Not going to lie, it makes me scared financially but I want to do it now because I am sure to fail :)

Why would anyone want to get started in the tatooing industry?
I love to draw, and I hate whenever I see really bad tatoo's... And I have wanted to be in this profession since I was 12 years old...

But I really really hate bad tatoo's that I see on everyone... Whenever a friend comes up to me and says "Dude! Check out my new tatoo" I look at it and lie through my teeth... I like art to be perfect....

I almost spit my coffee across the computer screen when I laughed out loud at this thread. :D No offense dear Brother T_Laurich, but aren’t you the same fellow who started a thread and quoted Deuteronomy about pagan practices (re: Christmas) the other day??

In my hometown, back East there is a pagan gang who hangs out at the tattoo parlor and they are inked up to the nth! I’m sure they believe tattoos are a sign of being a rebel. Nonetheless, I don’t have an issue with tattoos because the Lord tells us to no longer identify each other by the outward flesh but by the spirit. The flesh is crucified with Christ.

Even so, I don’t actually recommend tattoos because a lot of people I know have gotten them spontaneously and later regretted it. Also, many tattoos are not very edifying to the Lord and are painful and expensive to remove. So I guess it's like everything else, good judgment and all things in moderation.

I’m not condemning the practice as I have no room to judge. My husband (who is now home with the Lord) was a member of a motorcycle club (Nooooo… NOT a gang! LOL) and had various tattoos. And many years back I did a small sketch of a carpenter ant and let my husband talk me into getting the drawing tattooed on my leg. It was supposed to represent the “industrious ant” from Proverbs 6:6.

Yet countless people over the years have taken one look at my tattoo and jokingly informed me, “Oh, there’s a spider crawling up your leg!” That joke got old really fast. :p So, the moral of the story is: If I had gone to a tattoo artist who was a perfectionist like yourself, T_Laurich, I could have avoided the lame spider comments and been inked more accurately! ROFL!! ;)

I want to add that I don’t believe tattoos are anything more than a representation of who we are in our temporal bodies. They are temporal expressions of who we are individually.

Other ways people express themselves include: piercings, jewelry, designer eyeglasses, surgical procedures, dental implants, hair implants & extensions, wigs, designer clothing & footwear, makeup, perfume, cologne, wristwatches, hats, etc. Some people purchase expensive things to express who they are: cool cars, fancy electronics (games, televisions, cell phones, etc.), fine furniture, household appliances, etc. There is no end to the things people will spend money on to express who they are and what they consider important. And these are all outward expressions.

So who can really say which of these expressions is less acceptable? God knows our hearts and that is the only thing that is important. One thing is for certain, we won’t take any of these things with us when we enter into glory.

The one word you never want to hear out of a tattoo artist's mouth is.......Ooooops. ;)

Of course to a certain degree there is a difference in art styles based on your work surface. Working with paper or canvas you can go back and fix "errors" whereas with tattoos you're pretty much stuck if you slip a little. The tattoo industry varies from town to town and I would gander to say that unless you're in a major metropolitan area where there are bound to be a larger flow of traffic the possibility of failure would be higher.

The one issue that I can see you running into in this industry (as a Christian) would be the problem of tattoo locations. Obviously not everyone wants a tattoo on their arm or leg. You will end up in the position (one way or the other) of being requested to tattoo someone's more private areas and you should think about how you will handle the situation before it arises.

That being said, one of our users (formerly a Mod) is in the tattoo industry where he's at (last I knew). I'll PM you his name since he would probably be your best way of getting info.
