Going to rock the boat here probably but my inquiring mind needs enlightened by my christian brothers from around the globe. Let’s keep personal opinions about guns by the wayside, I’m wishing to find scriptural truth to this.
There is as meme that floats around on the internet in american Gun culture that relates firearms to Archangels and their weapons. Is there any biblical and scripture basis to this or is this an americanism that is simply misplaced by our culture . I do often also hear our american constitutional rights being held up as alleged “God given” can someone explain what is meant by “god given rights” as it relates to america’s constitution? 07556910-BF0A-47BC-AD7D-857462543233.jpeg

Genesis 3:24
New International Version

24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[a] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

Numbers 22:23
New International Version

23 When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, it turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat it to get it back on the road.

This proves that yes angels have swords.

Swords are also symbolic for weapons which a firearm is.

So that is one part proven true.

Angels are God's forces to defeat evil. Angels are commanded by God to do this. So the question becomes are humans allowed to ever defeat evil with physical weapons?

Romans 13 gives a good government the authority to use the sword for upholding security and justice.

Personal self defense comes from the passages that Jesus told his disciples to but a long blade (sword or usually translated as knife). Samson killed a lion that attacked him. Other scriptures call for us to stop our neighbors being led to the slaughter and there is no greater love than to lay your life down for a brother.

The God given rights was foundational in the Bible as the majority of the founding fathers was founded in the Christian faith to some form or fashion. They were largely influenced by the 1st great awakening.

These rights are listed in the declaration and expanded in the Bill of Rights. Life, liberty, property (was changed to the pursuit of happiness as Jefferson felt property would be abused by the slave owners)

These rights can be defended through scripture as to why they are God given and evident through natures God (natural law) for example, a animal will defend it's home or young or the natural law of morality and conscience.

Morality is what the words self evident in the Declaration describes.

The only super natural fire arm if we are to be precise is the bow that is aimed toward heaven after a rain sometimes Gen 9:13 the arrow was Jesus and the devil fell to the ground.because it is after all a cross bow!.. another fire arm in the bible is the sling such as David used.

That is a good question. Christians are told that the war is spiritual not natural and that our weapons are likewise spiritual. I see no reference in the Bible to angels with guns. No, you don't fight evil with tolerance. You resist the devil and watch him flee. You command him in the mighty name of Jesus. You enforce on him the victory won already. You overcome by the precious blood, the word of your testimony and not loving your life to the point of death.

I'm ex military, so I'm not one who thinks that standing in front of a tank and handing flowers to the commander is the way to go. I do not believe that all wars are unjustified. I do believe that Christians need to be very careful if they want to join the military. You may find yourself pointing your gun at another Christian. You have no say in which battles you have to fight, some of which are doubtful morally. As to the USA's obsession with guns, it is beyond my understanding. Especially for Christians.

You know how sikhs carry a dagger
maybe its the same as religious americans carrying guns. But why dont they have a picture of a nuclear bomb instead.

I just think its subliminal advertising. They want you to buy guns and ammo to keep the ammuntitions factories happy and turn a profit.

The US also put 'in god we trust' on their money, despite the Bible saying you cant worship God and mammon at the same time.

Use the old bait and switch. Its like Jim Jones chicken gut miracles all over again.

In regards to buying guns - the 'they' is not the US government as the current administration does not abide by the US Constitution or the rule of law.

Of course, 'they' aka gun manufacturers want to sell guns and ammo as that is the nature of their business.

While having served in the US armed forces and a supporter of the Second Amendment, I don't own any type of firearm.

It certainly is not a God given right to bear arms. That right was stated in the US Constitution and is protected, along with any other rights of citizenship, by the US armed forces.

The powers to be in the current US political leadership do not place their trust in God.

Certainly, it is biblical for angels to carry weapons. Even Jesus told his disciples to carry a sword. Freedom is not free but is fought for with blood, sweat, and tears.

That nuclear bomb reference was amusing though. It is mutually assured destruction.

The Archangel Michael is a warrior. But in Revelation 12 it says he leads angels, not people:

"Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon."—Revelation 12:7

Check out this video featuring Gen. Michael Flynn. He's speaking at a Kenneth Copeland event. The video is his concluding prayer. Some diligent researches uncovered that the prayer is virtually verbatim from New Ager Elizabeth Clare Prophet's book Maitrea. Notice where he says: "We are your instrument of your sevenfold rays and all your archangels—all of ‘em."

Of course Flynn says he's talking about spiritual warfare. Or is he? There are parts of the prayer that seem to suggest armed conflict: "We are free born, and we shall remain free born. And we shall not be enslaved." At least it would be easy for someone to interpret it that way.

It's the second video in the Twitter thread. Sorry, but I had to post the whole thread; couldn't just get the video.:( The full text of the prayer is below also; and another video discussing Flynn's prayer and Prophet's book.

We are your instrument of your sevenfold rays and all your archangels—all of ‘em
We will not retreat. We will not retreat
We will stand our ground
We will not fear to speak
We will be the instrument of your will, whatever it is
In your name, and the name of your legions
We are free born, and we shall remain free born
And we shall not be enslaved
By any foe, within or without
So help me god

This isn't me being anti-firearms, but it's entirely possible God detests firearms given the amount of senseless violence, motivated by evil, that occurs as the result of them. Humans aren't good stewards of powerful weapons; we just destroy each other quickly and efficiently.

I can just picture satan, when Tempting Jesus to jump from the temple roof so the angels can save Him, wearing a 'less fear more faith' hat.

The devil's greatest trick is leading people into falsehoods by tempting them with the truth (or partial truths)

I think that there are two main ways of looking at that verse about the fight we're in being not of flesh and blood but of the spirit.

The way that seems to becoming more popular is to look at that verse and think that we shouldn't physically confront evil. Rather we should pray more - because the battle isn't against flesh and blood.

The other way to viewing that verse is to see that these evil people, that need to be physically confronted, are not simply acting on their own. Rather they are being used by satanic forces as agents of hell. They obviously need to be stopped, but the reason they need to be stopped is beyond just the physical. They are part of a much deeper battle.

I subscribe to the second viewpoint. I think that the popularization of the other view is result of anti-Christian infiltration into Christianity.

You can't beat spiritual forces with physical force. Kill the head and another will rise. That is why we lost in Afghanistan. Throw all the depleted uranium you can at the demons. They will just scoff and find another host.

Exactly where my tend to view it personally as well. I think of David vs Goliath. God could have simply struck Goliath dead on the spot he was very able to do so . No doubt I’m sure there were plenty of Israelites who were praying for God to do just that in that battle. God chose to work through the little shepherd boy David with a humble sling and a stone as a weapon to slay the giant. If everyone did nothing but pray and David never was compelled to confront the giant would Israel have lost that battle I wonder
