DOES SLEEP IN THE BIBLE FOR THE DEAD MEAN THE SAME AS WHAT WE THINK OF SLEEP ???

I ask this because this is one of the areas I still struggle with even though I have prayed about it and studied the scriptures in the bible.

The reason I have questions is because of situations that my family has experienced over the years from what we can either call ghosts, demons, paranormal, or even explained away in the scientific field as tricks of the mind.

Here is my testimony on this subject, and that is from my early childhood up until even today me and my family have witnessed sounds, shadow people, orbs, and even seeing loved ones that have passed.

The Popcorn popper toy

My two oldest sisters, and my parents, lived on Elm street in Independence, MO when they were little.
My mom would always hear a popcorn popper toy going back and forth in the room when my sisters were suppose to be sleeping, but my mom when trying to catch them playing but could never do it. My dad when home from work one night heard what my mom was talking about and went to try and catch them failed the first two times.

The third time he stood by the door and waited tell it got across the room and swung open the door, no popcorn popper insight and my sisters were sleeping in bed. My dad then went over to the toy box to remove it from their room and it was buried at the bottom of the toy box.

My sisters had no time to bury it in the toy box and get back across the room and go to sleep in the short time it took to open the door. What could have been playing in their room ???
Good day KennethC,

My Scriptural take on this is that, for those in Christ, when our bodies die (sleep), our spirits/souls depart and go to be in the presence of the Lord as described by Paul:

"Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. (2 Cor.6:6-8)

And

"If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. "

Just those two Scriptures above tell me that when we die/sleep, for those in Christ our spirits depart and go to be in the presence of the Lord. Now regarding the unrighteous, when we read "The rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31), we see that at the time of death for them, that their spirits/souls go to or are taken to Hades where they remain until the resurrection of the unrighteous dead which takes place at the end of the millennial period.

Therefore, according to these Scriptures, God does not allow human spirits/souls, righteous or unrighteous, to wander around on the earth after death. So, these things that pound on walls, that make scratching noises, make toys, TV's, radios go on and off, cause cold spots, foul odors and the like are not being perpetrated by human spirits/souls of the deceased. That only leaves two possibilities, one, that they are being caused by holy angels, which is not likely at all, and two, by demonic entities, which is very likely and that for the sake of deception. By deception I mean, look at all the shows about ghost hunting. These people actually think that there are human spirits who have been caught in between life and death and that they don't know that they have died and need help crossing over. But seeing that nothing in all creation is hidden from God and all things are laid bare before him and that even the very hairs of heads are all numbered, I'm pretty sure that God knows the time of each person's death, including those who don't seek him.

Therefore, my personal belief based on the information above is that, at the time of death/sleep, whether righteous or unrighteous, the spirit/soul goes to their respective places, which doesn't include wandering around on earth. And that type of paranormal activity that you described above, unless there is a logical explanation for it, is being perpetrated by demonic beings.

That's my take on it anyway.
