All I have to say is the show is trash and Christians shouldn't be watching it. I was going to post scripture but I'm sure we have all read the same verses over and over again.

Then again it is between you and God. Just think of it this way, would you sit with Jesus, on your couch, watching that show?

I do sit with Jesus on my couch all the time

that, is something you 'what would Jesus do' folks do not understand it seems

some people think they cannot eat pork...do you eat pork?

those who do not eat it, consider YOU eating it, sin

I am sure we can all be holy enough at some point so as to be convinced that others are going to hell because they do something that we do not do

there is plenty I would no longer do...but not because God is standing ready to whack a mole me

it's because I have changed

condemnation is not change

it is condemnation

one flew over and all that....we understand with the capacity given to us to do so and it is not always the blessing others think is theirs

I am speaking plainly, see?

Lol OK. You sit with Jesus watching porn. Like I said, that is between you and God. And GOT is pure porn.

Look, I'm CERTAINLY NOT judging my brothers and sisters for watching this. I only know I saw one episode when FIOS was offering free HBO for a weekend, and remember why I don't have HBO.

A couple times a week a struggling brother or distraught wife starts a thread about how porn is or has ruined their lives and hobbled their walk with Christ. This is truly soft porn. People, especially young men, can mess up their brains with a single viewing.

But honestly, I'm just commenting and NOT condemning those who watch. May God Bless you!

one of us has a dirty mind and it is not me

you simply proved what I stated to be so

quite a jump from me stating I am aware that God sees all I do and knows all about me to YOU suggesting I watch porn with Jesus

going to sink any lower? if so, please keep it to yourself

I just spelled out my point to him

please read it

perhaps he has a problem with porn

when someone states that whatever is between so and so and God in a thread where several have stated that they watch something that he does not, you know that is not at all what they mean

I don't see porn in GOT...I do see porn when I turn on certain so called religious programs on religious TV however

I'm sorry Lauren. I wasn't really addressing you at all, and as I said I'm not judging you for watching. I'm just giving my opinion. I didn't mean to suggest it had anything to do with you.

aw gee...no worries...you do not have the attitude that he does

nothing to be sorry for...but thank you....I understood what you wrote and saw no offense in you

frankly, anything I watch...if scenes come on that are offensive, I just change the channel till the scene is off

I like the storyline and have no problem if some don't watch...but just don't come on all holier than thou ... I'm over that...had way too much of that in my life and I think that has less to do with a change of heart than simple 'I can behave if I try hard enough'

hope that makes sense

There's plenty of blood and gore and sex and nudity in the series (I've seen the first three seasons but realised too late that despite the fascinating stories and characters there was just too much crap and nihilism to wade through. I don't remember there being any gods or goddesses in the series, but maybe that came later on after I stopped watching it.

I watch GOT, because it's got an amazing story line, that keeps getting more complex as it goes along. The nudity doesn't bother me, because it mimics real life. It doesn't inspire me to go and do the same, because it's fantasy... a movie.

The actors are very good at what they do.. it's well acted, and very funny in places.

I would not recommend it for anyone under about 16-18 years of age, though.

I LOVED Pillars of the Earth, and WWE... I read the books, then watched the series. That whole story about the building of a cathedral is fascinating to me, and nobody tells it better than Follett. I've read ALL his books... great author.

No attitude from me. But for a Christian to stick up for that show just blows me away. I am free to express my views just the same that you are. I am speaking to any Christian on this thread not just you so please don't take it as an attack at you. These are just my views so you aren't expected to share them.

One of the interesting aspects of the story is how there is a transition going on, from the Old Gods, an animistic religion practiced without rites or texts, passed from generation to generation, to the new gods, who are called The Seven.

Here is a page describing the faith of the seven:
Faith of the Seven - Game of Thrones Wiki - Wikia

The two religions coexisted for about six thousand years with little
antagonism between all but the most passionate of adherents.

Here is a page describing the old gods:
Old Gods of the Forest - Game of Thrones Wiki - Wikia

The Red Woman serves the Lord of Light and she comes across as bloody awful
with her human sacrifices to her one god. Here is a page describing her religion:

I'm not sticking up for the show

I'm sticking up for the choice without some judgemental perfect person telling us all how wicked we are

and by the way? it's a public forum ...no one else even bothered to answer you, so be glad I did ...apparently no one else cared

you just did what so many do...you hid behind God to voice your outrage

and why is it YOU expressing your views, but if I reply I am hindering that view?

attack away...I'm used to here

while on the subject, mull over this:

if I say I watch Joyce Meyer several x's a week, someone is going to come along and bash her and ignorantly say a bunch of stuff that is not true about her...someone else will state she is WOF, which she is actually not

if I say I speak in tongues, someone will come along and say I do so by the power of a demon..yes folks...someone here actually says that about you if you speak in tongues

if I say I am saved by grace, someone will come along and say that I sin and don't care

if I say I obey the commandments, someone will come along and say I am a legalist

if I say I don't go to church, someone will post the verse about not forsaking fellowship etc

if I say I do go to church, someone will come along and say everyone in church is a hypocrite

so, I say I watch GOT and someone comes along and tells me I watch porn

GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!

oh

and if I say I read the NIV, someone will come along and say only the KJV is acceptable to God

and if I like instruments with my music, someone will come along and say God hates that

and on and on and on and stupidly and ignorantly on and on and on

DO YOU HEAR YOURSELVES????

end of rant

Everyone is going bunkers because sex and stuff is in there... This show is based on the middle ages and historical accurances. This is the way it was in the middle ages! Kingdoms fought one another, some ppl got killed, some ppl went into brothels, some people despise another,... If you can watch ISIS videos and Animal cruelty theres nothing in that show thats worse than any of these things besides that one fight Mountain vs. Viper. And that question ''would you sit on your couch with Jesus and watch this?'' Yeah why not I bet he can teach us a lot from that show. People are making that show worse than it is. Its mainly about multiple kingdoms who want to be on the main throne and they ally and do stuff to become the strongest and make it there. Da hell is wrong with that? People can watch Lord of the Rings but no GOT? Come on

O... kay... before we get too carried away, let's revisit OP.

Hi

a Christian friend of mine has been following the HBO series Game of Thrones. So much so that he has bought Game of Thrones Collectors card online and is swapping them with other friends. He is so obsessed! I went round to his house the other day and he was playing the Game of Thrones themed Monopoly set with his younger brother.

I am very concerned for his soul. Leaving aside the glorification of violence and the nudity in the show, I feel like it promotes paganism with its many gods and evil characters. This is, for me a very unchristian show but he doesn't seem to see it as a problem.

Am I worrying too much? Should I just leave him to his entertainment or should I keep trying to convince him? He is 22 years old and his brother (who doesn't watch the show) is 18. Neither of his parents are aware that he watches the show. Should I tell them?
He's 22. Unless he has overprotective legalistic parents, telling them about it won't really do any good. Also, you will lose his trust. There goes all your chances of trying to influence him.

Understandably, you may be thinking that you can't just sit and do nothing while he continues to GoT his faith away. But, as long as he continues to hear God's Word, the Holy Spirit will do the work. You're not the only one concerned for him.

The best way you can help is to keep your focus on your own faith and growing in Jesus and continually encourage him in the Lord (not discourage him from what you think is wrong). That way, the Holy Spirit can use your life (even without any effort from your part!) to keep him from being led astray.

---

Now, as for GoT being ungodly, is an entirely different topic. I tried watching it but couldn't finish the first episode... But then again, that's coming from someone who watches and plays Pokemon...
