have any of you noticed that many who post that celebrating halloween is harmless are the younger posters and many who are against it are older posters? we should take note of that.

Depends how you celebrate it, eh?

Originally it was to remember the dead.
I see no good reason for adults to dress up like skeletons though. Then again, it is a very new thing in Norway, so I see it as silly.

We would dress up in silly clothes and go caroling between Christmas and new years eve as kids. I prefer that.

you're wrong and completely mis-informed. halloween did not start out as a celebration to remember the dead. it only became such when the church tried to christianize the festival.
it started out as samhain and was pagan and occultic from the very start. do your research before spouting ignorant statements.

Lord God, we stand before You this day, asking Your guidance and wisdom, and the gift of discernment, that we may this day Honor You in some way no matter what we do; and that the Holy Spirit save us and lead us away from any trappings of evil that may ensnare us, and that we give some witness to how You transform death into life. In Jesus Name we claim this.

i haven't read people bringing ezekiel 8 up concerning halloween so i'll bring it up
in ezekiel 8 the word shows us some abominations and the greatest abominations were weeping for a false god.

so if recognizing a false god is a great abomination then celebrating a festival made for a false god is also an abomination.
christians take heed.

in exodus 23 we are told to not even mention the name of other gods. so celebrating a festival that was started to pay homage to other gods is a disgrace and an abomination.

Okay, so I'm not actually reading this until after Halloween... It still gives me something to think about. This is something that I've kind of gone back and forth on over the years, until I pretty much just let it slide. I appreciate everything that's been posted. Food for thought and prayer.

Well, I may have a bit of a different perspective about Halloween than some. I do understand and acknowlege the pagan roots, and for that reason I take my little cousin to our church's event. The word Halloween isn't even mentionedthere. It's called Trunk or Treat or something like that. It's more like a carnival. Oops. A Carnival...that word kind of has pagan roots too. Maybe we should shut down Six Flags.

I'm being silly, but what I mean is that even Oct. 31 falls under the category of: "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." I don't think we should so easily let ourselves be robbed of something that - although had pagan origins - is now a fun time for kids to play and get candy. We have to make culture adjustments, teach our kids how things change, and tell them the story and what we do, and DON'T celebrate. Believers of Jesus do not commemorate or give any authority to the historical aspects of halloween.

I used to celebrate it when i was a pagan. the actually meaning of halloween has nothing to do with honoring the dead. that is the day of the dead sometime in early november. Halloween its self as many roots depending on which "origin" you choose to believe however they all point to demonic and witchcraft ceremony. Many occult praticioners use the day to glorify their gods. Since becoming a christian i see how dangerous the holiday really is. First it glorifies satan and his work. Second it downplays the seriousness of staying away from demon activity and thirdly it teaches the children that witchcraft, vampire, demons are cute and cuddly not dangerous and out to destroy them.....
