for home defense i have a Remington 870 express tactical 12ga shotgun shooting my own load of steel slingshot ball bearings, and a desert eagle .50cal handgun shooting hollow-points and if i cant reach my firearms im proficient enough in hand to hand combat that i could incapacitate any intruder i needed to

i live in Texas where everyone has a firearm and thats the reason i have firearms for home defense because the chances of someone that breaks in being armed are significantly higher

now on the subject of owning ANY firearm
i think that if you
1. take the proper class / training
2. keep the firearm secure / safe at all times
3.know HOW and WHEN to use it
then i personally have no problems with owning a firearm
i would also like to point out that if someone wants to own a firearm weather that be for home defense or target practice or hunting... that is there PERSONAL choice and they are entitled to make that choice without criticism from others

I'm not against having guns in the house, but i do advise caution. I can still remember as a child, finding a gun and thinking it was a toy. If had not been of safety. i could have killed someone

I would suggest this, however:

If you have no handgun, it is possible, though extremely unlikely, I would think, that anybody in your family would be killed by an intruder.

On the other hand, if someone breaks into your house and you aim a handgun at them, it is very likely that someone in your family WILL get killed.

Isn’t it safer not to have a handgun?
This a major lie fostered by gun control "nuts" and supported by the liberal media. If you own a gun, and you know how to use it, you are much less likely to be harmed in any kind of crime.

I lived in Florida when they significantly relaxed the "concealed weapon" rules in that state. The liberal pundits were out in force predicting all kinds of gloom and doom. Florida would become "Dodge City". There would be shootouts on every corner. So what really happened? Serious crime significantly declined after the law was passed. Seems that criminals aren't so brazen when there is a chance their victims might shoot back.

Just as an aside, I saw a cute sign in somebody's lawn a while back. It showed a picture of a large gun muzzle and read, "Warning! We don't call 9-1-1." (emphasis added) I'll bet the burglars steer clear of their house. ;)

I agree. Plus a hand gun will do well against an intruder who isnt carrying a gun - maybe a knife, fake gun, or a gun that isnt loaded. The only instance in which the intruder won't think twice is when he is planning to shoot you anyway. In which case theres not much you can do.

As a christian (if you are?): DO you conciser it right of you to shoot and potentially kill someone who was merely intending to steal your TV?

If MY life is threatened: I still wouldn't want a gun, I'd risk harming him more than I meant to because I was scared
I have ADD, if I get angry I get very angry (although my "fuse" is normally quite long).

(Besides, I got a stagefighting sword (not sharp), I'd pretend to be a maniac and threaten him with it instead)

Ha. So you are going to risk your life by not keeping a gun just because they are merely trying to steal something? The polite thing then is to ask "excuse me but whats the reason for your call? And are you by any chance trying to take my life? Cuz if you are then I'll go get my gun, but if you're just here to steal stuff then have at it."
Chances are you won't ever need to fire a shot. But if the intruder thinks you will, thats all that you need. And if he's willing to take you up on it for a TV then go ahead and shoot em in the leg. And by take you up I mean threaten your life.

LOL never mind the fact that people survived for centuries WITHOUT guns -.-

I cant wait for the tribulation tbh because then petty little arguments like this which really only glorifies death and revenge wont be relevant or our focus, instead well be focusing on loving one another in unity and on God.

Yeah they may have survived without guns, but we as people have always had some sort of weapons to rely on.

What facts get in the way of a good story? A country that is paranoid and has a violent culture has higher crime??? NOO WAY!!! That ruins what I BELIEVE AND I WILL BELIEVE WHAT I WANT TO BELIEVE NO MATTER WHAT YOUR STATISTICS SAY! i HAVE A GUT FEELING AND MY GUT IS OBVIOUSLY RIGHT!

On a more serious note, Jesus gave some pretty specific instructions to love your neighbor as yourself, turn the other cheek, pray for those that persecute you. I can imagine if someone were to rob Jesus(assuming he actually had a permanent home) that he would step back and say take my material possessions, they mean nothing to me. My focus is on things above, not on things of the earth. And if you are desperate enough to steal them from me, you probably need those material possessions more than I do!

I agree with you on this. I find it very strange living in America that we are a very religious country but we do not really walk the walk. America has a lot of violence and poverty and for a country as ''Christian" as we supposedly are, one would not expect that. Our culture generally glorifies violence and pretty much ignores the part where Jesus says forget those who persecute you and pray for your enemies. So you are not alone in your confusion!
Sooner!! ((Hugs)) God bless You!!
