Walmart has cheap downloads.

Yahoo music has a subscription service for unlimited downloads a year.
These would be really good, but they are only available to US citizens.

emusic is terrific in terms of the variety offered, but they recently restricted their service so its not available in Australia. oh well, i'll keep looking I guess!

thanks everyone for your suggestions and keep them coming!

yeah :( sorry...... the site has done very well to make itself not look russian, but click on the terms of use and it talks about russian copyright laws. i did some research on this today, and they do pay royalties to the artists, but its at the discretion of the russian authorities, and if you're paying 15 cents per song, not much can be going to the artist. but even without the royalties issue, its still illegal to download from there unless you're russian. the site won't tell you that i don't think, but i don't think they have to. anyway, its all very complicated and i dont understand it, but google it and you'll see its not legitimate.

the whole thing is very frustrating as its almost impossible to find somewhere to download music which has a good range, where you can pay for it, not break any laws, not have to live in the US or russia, and have at least some of the money actually go to the artist.

Rhapsody looks good, but you have to be american to use it.

Sam I think you might have been thinking of 99 million songs? It says they're free...I want to pay for the songs

i think i've figured out the problem here.. its not itunes or any downloading sight....... its you..... you need to convert to americanism.

well theres a little problem with that theory... because this guy was mexican.... and unless the russians are now recruiting a race of people who can hardly get into the u.s. i doubt he was a spy

Sharp, I think this dilemma comes back to an underlying sinister cause here, cos all I see is AMERICANS being the priviledged few here, while the rest of us (esp in the beautiful SOUTHERN hemisphere) are treated like pawpers.........prejudice maybe??? Snobbery???
LOL (all tongue in cheek btw....hahaha)
