Are you born again?

Because you spend an inordinate amount of time splitting hairs and seeing how much you can get others to turn from their Christian convictions.

Not much of a ministry. And definitely never leads to edification.
But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, `You fool!' shall be liable to the hell of fire. Matt 5:22 RSV

Have you joined the “I don’t have to repent” crowd? If we don’t have to repent, why did Jesus say otherwise (Matt 4:17)?

At least, now we know you can talk without lying or answering the question.

When it comes to lying think about this. When we lie it hurts pretty much three people. Us, the other person and God. Im not saying im perfect at this but lies seem to always come back on us one way or another. Even what we call a "white lie" can do serious damage to someone. And when we lie it always hurts God. We seem to make all kinds of "excuses" for lying but in the end it is still a lie.

Yep i am speaking to myself also.

We must also understand that nothing can be hidden from God. In fact the Bible tells us that when we come before Him all things "hidden" will be revealed. The thought of that scares me due to my past and the lies i had told. I know that the truth can hurt sometimes but lies can hurt even worse. The smallest little lie can tear someones heart out. So imagine what our "white lies" do to God. "We" are a fallen creation due to the twisting of the truth...a lie told to Adam and Eve.

sometimes 'low-blows' are the worst...if one could or would think why they would
do such a thing, then there is hope for them...

As best as possible we should tell the truth. But some truth we are not allowed to share because
of confidentiality, or situation. We can not answer the question and distract or use other techniques
to avoid conflict without disclosing something that would not be appropriate.

Take a child asking about their birthday presents. The simple way round this is no comment.
It is neither an affirmation nor a denial, it is just not disclosing the subject in question.

Magenta, it's not about such trivia as talent contests, it's about saving an elderly person from needless worry.
If it is an elderly person with alzheimer's disease or dementia, it is better to lie than to cause worry or argue. My mother worked with people in a nursing home, and it was much better to agree with whatever they said rather than tell the truth and get the person upset. If it is to spare an elderly person from worry, I think that is kind.

PS. 40:4.
Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respects not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

PS. 58:3.
The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

PRO:30:8.
Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

ISIAH 63:8.
For He said, Surely they are My people, children that will not lie: so He was their Saviour.

1JONN 1:6.
If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

1JOHN 5:19.
And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

REV 21:27.
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination,
or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

I have read a few of the comments and what is happening is nothing more than justifying lying. This is another way to the road of justifying sin. If its ok to lie, its ok to steal, then its ok to murder, then its ok to disobey every single one of the moral laws of God. So since we have justified sin and justified disobeying Gods moral laws can we now justify worshiping something or someone other than God?

Do you see the path here? This is actually happening in the church. "Since they 'love' each other its ok for homosexuals to get married.". Not only get married but, get married in a church by an ordained pastor/minister. This justifying of sin has no end once we start down that path.

We as a "fallen" creation are pretty good at justifying and making excuses for sinning. Whats "good for the gander" is not good for the Christian. Dont follow those who dont believe. Follow Christ, who lived the perfect life, and pray to God that you can immulate Him. My favorite verses in the Bible are those that say "teach me your ways". Please pray that for yourself also if you desire to live for Christ. Psalm 86 is the perfect prayer, i believe, for all who want to live their lives for Christ. David prayed it...make it your own and own this prayer. Live for Jesus for He is the only way to live.

But what about a person with Alzheimer's disease, insisting a gorilla was inside her and it wanted a banana? Or a lion was outside in the trees? What should my mother have done? Upset these poor people by telling them "You DON'T have a hungry gorilla inside you." And "There is nothing in that tree." It would just have bothered them. Instead, she gave the lady a banana and told the other lady that they were going to get the lion out of the tree. I don't know but that is helping to heal the sick (sick in mind) and I know Jesus would want people to heal the sick.

What about saving Jews from the Nazis? I think a human life is more precious to God rather than breaking a commandment. What about Rahab? She lied and protected the spies, and is listed in the genealogy of Jesus as well as in the heroes of faith chapter in Hebrews.

I don't think people are advocating lying, but there are times when lying is the ethical choice. It is loving thy neighbor as thyself.

Gorillas inside? Lions outside in the trees? That's not dementia. That's hospital-induced delirium. Those folks were stuck in their rooms without family for too long. They were prisoners in that nursing home in a far worse state than dementia. Why would she let them continue to live in such terrifying delusions? Give them something familiar from their homes -- a favorite comforter, picture, artwork. Something that reminded them of home, since home in the last grounding on this earth someone with dementia has. Call their family and ask them to call or visit more often. People they know they may forget who they are, but deep inside they are familiar. Spend half an hour a day taking that peron outside their room. Let them see they aren't stuck with the same sterile four walls like a prisoner.

Of course there was something she could of done. But to let them believe they continue to live in that horror of a dream they think is real? That's horrible! Why wouldn't someone help them to get out of the thought their is a gorilla inside them or a furious cat stalking them?

My husband thought his room was swarming with mice and rats. Of course he would have been angry and confused to learn what he was seeing he wasn't seeing, but dang it! Better to get that jolt of not being able to trust your own senses than to continue watching and feeling the rodents descend on you. His nurse would have heard it from me, if she went along with that nightmare. And, if she didn't listen, she would have listened to the reprimand from the director.

That's not ethical. That's neglect!

How easy it is for you to flip some answer -- whatever comes to your mind first -- onto a post and merrily be on your way. Bonus points for you for not needing to think it out, but being able to risks other's growth in the Lord.

What did Jesus say when people asked him if he was God? Do something different. Take the time to go learn the answer rather than ignoring the question by flipping up another silly response and skipping away.

Actually, I came back because today's devotional by Spurgeon had something to say of significance about lying that we could all use.
Morning
“Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people ... Thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.”
- Lev_19:16, Lev_19:17
Tale-bearing emits a threefold poison; for it injures the teller, the hearer, and the person concerning whom the tale is told. Whether the report be true or false, we are by this precept of God’s Word forbidden to spread it. The reputations of the Lord’s people should be very precious in our sight, and we should count it shame to help the devil to dishonour the Church and the name of the Lord. Some tongues need a bridle rather than a spur. Many glory in pulling down their brethren, as if thereby they raised themselves. Noah’s wise sons cast a mantle over their father, and he who exposed him earned a fearful curse. We may ourselves one of these dark days need forbearance and silence from our brethren, let us render it cheerfully to those who require it now. Be this our family rule, and our personal bond-SPEAK EVIL OF NO MAN.

The Holy Spirit, however, permits us to censure sin, and prescribes the way in which we are to do it. It must be done by rebuking our brother to his face, not by railing behind his back. This course is manly, brotherly, Christlike, and under God’s blessing will be useful. Does the flesh shrink from it? Then we must lay the greater stress upon our conscience, and keep ourselves to the work, lest by suffering sin upon our friend we become ourselves partakers of it. Hundreds have been saved from gross sins by the timely, wise, affectionate warnings of faithful ministers and brethren. Our Lord Jesus has set us a gracious example of how to deal with erring friends in his warning given to Peter, the prayer with which he preceded it, and the gentle way in which he bore with Peter’s boastful denial that he needed such a caution.
