I dunno, but when I think of something disturbing during the Thanksgiving season, this Thanksgiving movie scene comes to mind...

Very simple.
Gluttony. You're gonna pay for that!
There we go, that's the spirit!

Thanksgiving encourages overeating. Therefore it is the work of the devil. All this talk about giving thanks is just a clever ploy to sneak it past the Christians.

There is nothing on this whole forum that is worth tears. If there are tears, this forum is being taken much too seriously.

My primary disagreement with you is how you insulted and accused somebody who disagreed with you. Your reaction to his disagreement was unwarranted, harmful and requires apology.

But instead of that, you keep doubling down.
Not worth tears? I was speaking from my calling and you attacked me for being and doing what God made me for. Please do not gloss over the significance of what I'm saying in that.

The fact is that you hurt me deeply. This is the first day I have dared come back in 2-3 weeks, and I considered never coming back at all. I am not sure what God and I will want to do going forward, but I decided I would at least deal with the matter that now exists. Also, I could see after the incident itself that Satan had been confusing and exaggerating things to make it worse, but what you said was completely out of line, just saying hurtful things to draw blood. I may call people out for bad behavior, but I always do it with their needs in mind, and contrary to your accusations, I never insult people over mere disagreement.

There is a proper place for cutting to the heart, and then there is just stabbing at others. The former takes great care, love, divine training, and continual walking with God. You didn't get there. You also consequently demonstrated quite well why you are not qualified to assess me or others on such matters, at least at this time. I know many like to quote the beginning of Matthew 7, but consider the whole first paragraph and understand that all judges/judging are/is not equal.

“Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye."

I don't give up on you as a brother-in-Christ, but you have much to learn, especially about judgment and place. I also wonder if you even realized that the discussion you decided to insert yourself into spanned multiple threads and not just the one you commented on. Either way, I pray that you will hear me, or else that God will get through to you on what you need so you can truly become the man I think you really want to be.

But then that is what I am after with people in pretty much every encounter I have on here - hoping to get through to them so they can truly become the godly person they really want to be. If you don't like what it looks like, that is your problem, not mine. I make no apology for not being called to mere niceness. Rather, I am called to speak the truth that changes lives.

I plan on overeating on Thanksgiving. Don't have a gluttony problem as I am chronically underweight.

Maybe I have an evil tendency in this regard, especially regarding this pagan holiday. If so, I'll do what I do with my wife, just nod my head and say that I'm sorry.

Regarding the pagan holiday of celebrating Christmas. I used to have the holiday spirit but drifted towards saying that it is a bunch of humbug. Probably 'cause I didn't get enough toys in my youth.

My bad, per usual.

Nodding my head and saying that I'm sorry.

(Not)

Well modern Christmas IS just a bunch of humbug. They try to squeeze every last dollar they can out of it. The number of ways they have found to merchandise it passed absurdity long ago.

But let's stay focused here. We are tearing Thanksgiving apart right now. We can tear up Christmas later.

Sorry, seems I jumped the pagan holiday gun. Looking forward to the pagan Christmas thread. Probably gonna be a bunch of holier than thou Scrooges trying their best to extinguish whatever Christmas spirit we have, if any. Coal in their stockings for sure.

The other problem with this is Black Friday.
What kind of name is this? Sounds Pagan and dangerous.

Exactly! Nobody ever mentions this!

It's a vast orgy of commercialism, called Black Friday, some people get trampled and occasionally somebody dies! But Christians never address this hellish holiday.

The first or second year that Walmart started Black Friday on Thursday afternoon, I went to Walmart late one Friday morning, after the insane people had dispersed. I asked a clerk, "since Black Friday starts on Thursday now, does that mitigate it to a dark brown Friday? Or is it still black?"

"Are you trying to be funny?" (She'd had a hard day and she was tired.)

"No, that was a serious question. Does Thursday take some of the pressure off Friday? Since it's stretched out now, is it not so bad at any given time?"

"Oh... No, it just makes the ordeal longer."

noun
noun: Black Friday; plural noun: Black Fridays
  1. the day after Thanksgiving, regarded as the first day of the traditional Christmas shopping season, on which retailers offer special reduced prices.
"shoppers were snapping up deals on Black Friday"
Origin
early 17th century (as school slang, in the sense ‘Friday on which an examination is held’). The shopping sense dates from the 1960s and was originally used with reference to congestion created by shoppers; it was later explained as a day when retailers’ accounts went from being “in the red” to “in the black”.

Wow, so much arrogance in there, from presuming you know better without testing than I who tested extensively (though you weren't even humble enough to ask me about it), to foolishly thinking you alone can't be deceived even despite multiple Bible verses warning us to test things. (1 Thess. 5:19-22, 1 John 4:1, etc.)

I will move on then and pray that God and life bring you down to earth before Satan uses this to destroy you.
Have been perusing this thread and became alarmed at this particular post. Yes I see it is from the 3rd wk in March thank you.

I would absolutely have less than nothing to do with someone who threatens others with some kind of retribution because 'how dare you not recognize my superior relationship with God and the fact I consider myself to be a prophet and speak to myself the very mysteries of God and then grant you publicans the messages I hear because I am, after all, the very voice of God in your midst.
This type of thing is just a very bad misinterpretation of the spiritual gifts and how they are to be in use. Disappointing, actually, to see someone in this forum doing this type of thing.

It is, after all, a forum and not a church setting. I just recently left what I thought would be a great Bible study that turned out to be one person telling others what God 'wanted them to do' and another, who was actually hosting the thing, pursuing a 'seeker' approach rather than the Bible study promised. Thanks but no thanks.

We do seem to get them an awful lot around here though. Sometimes they're thicker than skeeters.

They keep contradicting what the last prophet said though, and the last prophet contradicted what the one before him said, and they all say things that directly contradict the Bible, so after a while you learn to just ignore them.

It's the threats they offer in 'love and concern' that really don't pass the smell test.

Isn't is a cultural tradition too to have a parade for the Thanksgiving?
I know this is more in the 80s - 90s tradition but still, some cities around the country still do it even after covid.
I mean a parade? Who are you glorifying there with that parade?
Isn't it common to participate in large groups having fun celebrating football too during this time or am i mistaken? I mean, really?
Also, what's this tradition i hear about breaking the wishbone?
You're playing with fire friends. WITH FIRE !

Yeah, the wishbone... If you get the bigger part, you get your wish. Sounds like witchcraft to me!

By the way, just to explain all this...

This thread was started in a farcical manner. See, back in the day we used to have genuine threads about this or that holiday having pagan origins. Haven't had much of that lately, so I thought I would start a parody thread.

Much to both my delight and dismay, it turned into a real pagan holiday thread, with people gleefully pitching in to sincerely argue about why certain holidays are pagan.

So that's what we have now, apparently. Welcome to the fracas.

No worries. I don't think a forum is the place to get your undies all in a knot anyway. :giggle: I've been on a few forums and sometimes you would think that lives were at stake. Part of the charm I guess.
