They are special 'guns' designed for ear piercing.

Thanks Ugly, I have learned something new tonight. I thought it was done with the literal gun and couldn't imagine how it would be done. Funny me :D

Yes, I was very fortunate to not have any problems with mine. If I ever get another piercing it will be with a needle. When I was younger, I did not realize the dangers of using an ear piercing gun.

Yes, I still use both pairs of holes. I always wear at least one pair of earrings when I leave home, most of the time I wear two pairs. Pretty much the only time I don't wear them is when I am home, sleeping, or biking. We mountain bike on trails in the woods, I worry about one of my earrings getting caught on a tree branch and getting ripped out. Not a pleasant thought at all.

And, while I do appreciate the respect very much, you do not need to call me Ms. I am a teacher and get called Mrs. all day long, 5 days a week. Please feel free to just call me Toska:)
Hi Tosca:

(The Ms. is a force of habit...)

So you do prefer the idea of doing it with a needle now?

You say if you do it again it will be with a needle.

Sounds like you might just possibly eventual convert your doubles into triples, then. Multiple ear piercing is certainly a very well established custom.

(Nice header picture of the Bible, BTW.)

Blessings.

For example, a machine that puts staples into walls, notice boards, etc is also known as a gun.

But seems like for you guys in your part of India the way to do it is with the needle, right?

Blessings.

Ms. sanglina: The ear piercing gun is particularly associated with the Western-style shopping mall with kiosks. Beforehand, decades back, the needle would also be used usually in the West. However, in the West, the needle would be the strongly preferred method used in tattoo/piercing parlors.

Blessings.

I had my ear pierced when I was around 4 years old? I don't think it hurt. They used a gun if I remember correctly. It's always up to you, what ever option you choose to go with as long as it makes you comfortable. I would go for the gun because it's less scary looking (in my opinion) than someone advancing towards me with a long needle haha ;)

I guess this means you've gotten one pair of holes and that you've not ever considered doing it again.

Scariness exists at different levels. On the surface a needle might look more scary, but microscopically the gun rips more flesh! :)

haha you are right, you know I am thankful that it was done as a child when I didn't think too much about it because now I would actually want a piercing if I didn't have it and be too scared about having it done.

You sound like you are very glad you now have the holes you need...

Yes, I have been considering a 3rd pair of holes for my ears. If I decide to do it, I will probably have my husband to it for me with a needle. He is pretty handy.....he actually gave one of our dogs stitches when the dog cut his leg. Our vet was very impressed:)

30 to 35 years ago moms of teenaged girls were starting to get doubles done like their daughters.

But today, moms and grandmas getting triples done has become a perfectly classy and widespread thing to do, hasn't it?

Yes, needle is far better than gun.

Blessings.

Way back when my girlfriend Sharon took an ice cube and froze/numbed my ears, then put a half of a potato on the back side and stuck a needle through. Then she put a brand new baby diaper pins in the new holes for a few minutes. I have gone years at a time without wearing earrings but then take a notion to wear them and my holes have never grown over even not being used for so long. Then when my daughter was young she had her ears pierced with a gun. The only advantage I could see with a gun was that both ears could be done at the same time where as mine were pierced one at a time.

JesusSaves: I see; ty. So with you it's kind of 50-50, then.

Seems like you are single-pierced; but if you ever wanted to become double-pierced, which method would you likely use?

Blessings.

You think so? :)

Don't know how many pairs you've gotten, but those who have been done with both methods sometimes say they prefer needle...

Blessings.

The downside of using needle method is that you need to be completely sure that it is sterilized because if not then you might get tetanus or if it has been used by others then you might get hepatitis or blood transmitted diseases.

Other than my ear lobes? Nope. I don't find it appealing at all. :p

I just sterilized a sowing needle and pierced my own. Took some elbow grease to jam it through the lobe but I never had a problem with infection or anything.
