When I first came here, no one left their name on rep comments. That has changed over the years, and for the better.

As for how many you have to give out to go back to someone you have already repped, I have never figured it out. Sometimes I rep everyone on a good mood day. And I can't seem to re rep someone.

Other times, it seems like a few will do the trick. Or maybe I just don't pay attention? I used to think it was a big deal, but then I realized a lot of people were having fun with it, which is a good thing to do. So I tried to stop being so serious and have more fun. But I do slip back to my old ways, and "only" give reps for "profound" and "deep" posts. LOL

Gotta check myself on that! (And I think rep power is more important that rep points - because it is better to give than to receive. - Acts 20:35)
For the most part, I only get reps for the sillier stuff I write.. :( lol :)

I read this and your evil laugh scared me so I tried to rep you but I must spread some Reputation around before I can rep you again. Please be patient. You can rep me anytime night or day.

I'm sorry, are we here to measure our popularity and approval among men, or are we here to put our thoughts and minds on God???

Now someone rep me for that little bit o' insight ;)
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." (Philippians 2:5-8)

So, let me try again to figure the system out... Never have heard an explanation that adds up.

If I rep someone they get rep points equal to my rep power... so if I have a rep power of 12, the person I rep gets 12 points added? If someone with a rep power of 10 reps me, I get 10 rep points?

So how many rep points does it take to achieve the next rep power? As in, if I have a rep power of 12 with 696 rep points, how many more points does it take to bump my rep power to 13?

And other than a gauge of popularity, what does all this amount to anyway?

You are right. If you rep someone they gain however many powers YOU have. If I were to rep you, you would receive 61 rep points. For every 100 rep points, you get a power and a green bar, unless you already have all your green bars, in which case you only receive a power. Since you have 696 rep points right now, someone with at least 4 powers, or more, would need to rep you before you get to the 100 rep point level.. :)

But if you get one power per 100 points, at 696 points I should only have a power of 6...

?

You also get a power and green bar for every certain amount of posts you make. When I first joined here, when I hit 50 posts, I got 1 power and 1 bar. Then it doubled to every 150 posts, then to 250 and finally to every 500 posts. When I hit 5,000 posts, my rep point level doubled to every 200 points before I could receive another green bar, although I still received a power for every 100 points. The amount of posts you have to make to receive a power varies for everyone.

Since you have 696 rep points right now, you only need 4 more to meet your 100 point level of 700. If I gave you rep, your points would rise to 757, because I have 61 powers.

I'm pretty sure the maximum amount of green bars you can get, is 11. I haven't seen anyone here with more than 11 bars. :)

Im sorry but I dont mean to sound negative about this but it seems the rep points is all about being popular to some even on a this site for Christ followers! Why do people care about these rep points? Doesnt what we say speak for itself? Who I am in Christ is enough for me. It comes out in what I say and what I do. Just my two cents....

Some people hand them out like candy within their click and some only hand them out when someone has really said something profound and thought provoking. Im in the latter crowd:)

I'm in the latter crowd, too. A post has to REALLY impress me before it merits a rep from me.. :)
