Have you ever experienced snobbery? what about christian snobbery, does that affect you?
I just find it weird to find that some professed christians are complete snobs. But its kind of disguised as religiousity, as if poor people cant be christians as or its somehow bad to accept charity if you are poor!

I also found that a lot of people have this stereotype that poor people are lazy, but many poor actually work harder and longer than anyone else does and they are still poor. And being poor means things are a lot harder so you do work harder just to keep afloat. So I just wonder how people have this mindset that just cos one is poor it means one doest deserve anything when often the people judging often have advantages or priveliges that poor people never had in the first place.

I just find it weird.
On the converse, nobody seems to bat an eye about the idle rich! lol

Amen brother! Unhappily I have found not only some "Christians" with these qualities but also entire churches. They sometime doll out charities from the rear door but do not encourage entry.

Oh, I've definitely heard people complain about the rich lol! We tend to go to smaller churches, plus we live in the south, so people being snobbish to poor people isn't much of a thing. And in fact, almost every church has a food bank and supports local charities. There are plenty of people who are snobs in other ways, though. Mainly from people who work as city officials of some sort.

It's the same here in southwest tennessee. Not many rich people here to look down on us.. or for us to look down on.

It started out when birthday party invitations didn't come. Then when dating was discussed there was never an invitation to meet the family. The kind of work I was offered when needing a job was always labour. The discussion was always slightly patronising or or they didn't actually want to have a conversation as friends it was very light and on the surface. The churches I went to add guys and went to play golf regularly. The acted kind, but kept a distance. Only when the had a few drinks did u realise how judgemental they were and how little actual life experiences they had.

Yes, I believe Christians come across as snobs when they say things like "We are sooo blessed...." etc.

There is definitely a wealth divide in my church but I don't think the wealthy in my church are snobs; everyone is pretty humble. For several people I was actually shocked when I eventually found out what they do for a living, such as law firm partners. Never would have guessed.

This is not exactly a new issue. Kindly read the epistles of James and John.

I stopped using Facebook when I found that people from church kept posting their wealth and saying 'blessed'like that was a reason to post photos in jewelry

I found homeschoolers esp were quite snobby towards public schools as if christians are only ever meant to go to exclusively christian schools and never interact with non christians, or were incapable of learning in a secular environment.

Too bad if you worked in one, or sent your children to one that was like why would you slum it in a public school. Then out would come the humble brag about their academic achievements.

I think it was the same for anything to do with the public, what you need to use PUBLIC transport to get to church and borrow books from a PUBLIC library? As if anything used by the public was just low grade and dirty.

I think people that have money assume that everyone ALWAYS has money to spare.
They seemt to think theres something wrong if you are not willing to just go and buy whatever you want.

The other weird thing is when preachers assume you always have money to give to them.

I know in a retail environment, the shop owners like everyone to go shopping AND bring their wallets, but in church, not everyone will have their wallet on them!

In fact, in church many people wont have any money to give and all they have to offer is themselves.
