I live very close to the ocean... there are parks and large green areas around where I live, and sometimes I hear the coyotes ky-yi-yipping to beat the band. I have heard the babies even! A few years ago I saw a couple of adolescent coyotes playing hide and seek with each other around a couple of large trees. They were quite amusing to watch, being so playful. They walk about on our city sidewalks and down the middle of roads at night. One time quite a few years ago I saw one standing just off the sidewalk near the beach here. A parks' board van was parked nearby, and a woman in uniform standing close to it. I slowed down to talk to her. She did not know what she was looking at. I told her for sure it was a coyote, that they lived nearby and that I hear them often during the spring and summer months. I wonder where they den. People's cats go missing all the time...
Yes. I was very concerned that I was going to end up there, and everyone knew at that point that the US had no intention of winning the war... it was simply a political thing, and a testing ground for new weapons... and our guys were dying, for no reason.
When I was 16, my lottery number was "1"... when I was 17, my lottery number was either 11 or 12... so you can see how I was sweating it.... fortunately, even though they did the lottery when I was 18, my number was way up there, 260 something, or higher... so the odds were good that I wouldn't have been drafted anyway, but then they stopped the draft.
While I am borderline rabidly patriotic... (almost blindly patriotic.....) at that point, even the most gung-ho hawks knew that it was a worthless endeavor, and a total waste of our young men's lives...
I'm thankful to God that I missed out on that.... too many guys I knew didn't miss out on it. The things they went through, over there, only to survive and come back home to the hatred and scorn of their former friends.....

Breaks my heart..I've listened to too many guys describing what it felt like to come home to people calling them "baby killers" "rapists" "murderers"..... all of that for simply serving their country when they were compelled to do so. It wasn't a voluntary thing for the vast majority of them, believe me.

That's why this whole business with Russia worries me.
I'm by no means a fan of Putin and his former KGB ilk. But all this sudden men-without-chest style posturing by the likes of Obama and McCain has me concerned.
I don't think anything will come of this. Trump will be installed in about two weeks and tensions will cool again. But this inconsistent, hair-trigger madness has to be stopped if we are to avoid unnecessary bloodshed and very possible loss of liberties like our 2nd Amendment.

I didn't get that Glock 10mm I wanted for grizzly protection in 2016...
So I resolve to get one this year.

I have to second that. When I first read it I thought "Well I get it, the M1 action must have been what he used in in the service." Then I actually looked at your age. hahahahha
You and I have similar goals though. I especially dig the Glock 40 MOS. Mmmmm.

Generally, anything with the Lapua name on it is exponentially more expensive... especially since the .308 is a military cartridge... pretty much.
I imagine the empty Lapua brass is more expensive than the loaded 308 ammo. 338 bullets are way more expensive, and it probably uses almost twice the powder that the 308 does...
I saw an ad bragging that they had 338 Lapua as "cheap" as $2.20 per round. 308 ammo can be had for considerably less than $1 per round.
I used to have a 338 Win Mag in a Ruger M77.... it wasn't brutal to shoot, but it wasn't pleasant. After about 10 or 15 rounds, I was ready to move to something else. The Lapua would likely be worse.
