Range time always goes too quick for me.

Well I made it to the gun range for the first time in four years. I had fun plinking away at some very aggressive steel knock down targets. I met a couple of gentlemen there and we had a good chat.

It's nice to chat with people who have the same interest and values you do in a specific area. You don't have to justify your existence with them.

I was shooting my Ruger Mark 3 stainless steel hunter model with a 7" fluted barrel. I worked on the trigger some and am very pleased with the way it shoots. So were the guys I shot with. They each ran a magazine down range. I only brought two boxes of shells and I was done before I realized it.

Which is very nice sometimes. I'm a Reformed Christian and an old-school conservative; I love a good argument as much as the next person. But sometimes it's really nice to have someone who understands without needing you to explain.

usually, it's a VERY safe place...

A little tough to carry on a conversation sometimes, but still a good place to hang out.

What is involved in getting a concealed carry permit in your state. Here in Iowa one needs either classes or a DD214 (military discharge form).

In VA we need a CC course of some sort. Online is considered a sufficient.

We have constitutional open-carry.

I've heard they jam pretty easily.

If you want a gun with similar utility for a comparable price, I'd go with a Smith and Wesson Shield.

S&W made too many of them, so they're going for the same amount as a can of PBR.

I can get a brand new SCCY CPX-2 for $155 on gunbroker. The shield is $300-400.

According to the reviews, the SCCY is completely reliable most of the time. There are occasional lemons but their customer service is the best in the business so if there is anything wrong they will fix it within two days of receiving it.

I don't know anything except what I've read about the SCCY, but another good "budget" choice is the Canik TP9 .... I have the SA model, and it has been flawless in function. I probably only have about 600 rounds through it so far, but zero feed/fire/eject issues. Accuracy is way better than it needs to be. It's the same size as a full size Glock.

I've also said it before, if you are looking for a concealed carry 9mm, it's difficult to find anything better than the Taurus PT111 G2 model.... It holds 11-12 rounds, has double strike capability, has a great trigger, and mine has been flawless to just over 1000 rounds and counting. No jams, nothing. I took my class with it, and amazed most of the participants with it.

I've only heard good things about the Canik. Say what you like about the Turks, but the firearms they do make are generally accurate and available on a budget.

Really Earnest, you picked a great time to be in the market for a gun.

There are a lot of fantastic choices out there at reasonable prices because the gun industry over-produced in case Clinton won.

In california you basically need to be a cop's best friend or relative and they have to be willing to give you a written recommendation.... and you have to have a "good reason" to need a conceal permit. Self-defense isn't considered a good-enough reason. You have to be a firearms dealer or something like that. Its ridiculous.

In South Dakota you need a drivers license (or ID) and $10

The $10 is for the background check.

Reciprocity for South Dakota includes a lot of states. But, of course, not the states with the most draconian gun laws (CA, IL, NY, DC)

It brings up good point gun control advocates just don't seem to understand- humans are not the only threat. In fact, I would argue that animals more often call for use of guns than humans do.

I live in total suburbia, but bears still regularly show up. Snakes are still around. Rabid dogs still show up.

If you don't think distance killing tools are a necessity, you are not living in the same world most people live in.
