Oregons smallest city
Greenhorn was established during the eastern Oregon gold rush of the 1860's and had about 3200 residents by 1895. Incorporated in 1903, the community survived until World War II, when the War Production Board in 1942 put an end to all nonessential mining in the country, including gold mining. Most of the townsfolk left shortly thereafter, and for decades, the city had no permanent residents! There were some winter cabins and some vacation homes, and a few part-time residents lived out of there RVs, but o one stayed year round.
