Please forgive me if this topic has been covered before but I'm new here and don't see it in any recent topics.

What are your thoughts on wearing a cross? Do you wear one? If so is it to start a conversation with the atheist/sceptic? Is there a reason you don't wear one?

Personally I love wearing mine, it can't usually be seen by others but sometimes it can be. I don't wear mine to begin conversations with others though I'd be happy to witness to someone who noticed it. I wear mine because it reminds me I belong to Jesus and was bought at a price. It also reminds me (if I catch sight of it in the mirror) that I must set an example to others in the way I live my life - I sometimes fail in that regardless but it is an occasional reminder. I have loads of necklaces and pendants but I no longer feel "right" without a cross.

I do have a cross hanging from the mirror in my car and this one is most definitely to begin conversations!!!

¨Wearing a cross may be a good instigator of sharing our faith. I have never worn a cross, but this is primarily because I can barely wear a watch, which I do not any more. There is nothing wrong with wearing a cross as a symbol of faith, but it is still just a piece of metal. Jesus ¨Christ is alive, and in the hearts of us all until He returns. I would never give a cross to anyone, but there is nothing wrong with wearing one,. God bless you.

If the reason is to 'remind yourself', why not wear a bracelet with a cross or scripture verse? You'd be reminded quite often that way. :)

It is symbolic for Christians but meaningless for many who wear it as a form of jewelry. Worn by some of the most lewd & evil people in the world.

Crossnote: Not too keen on bracelets, they get in the way lol. It's personal choice isn't it.

LOL ! yes it is. For my donation my pastor gave me a pair of tiny crosses that I can attach to both collars of a shirt. Will wear them on unique occasions.

Hi MadParrotWoman
I wear a cross.
When I first started wearing it,I was wearing it with a law mind set and it was to let anyone who might look at it as a way to know I was a Christian and for them to know I was not a partying/worldly type of person, but I realize now that that was immature, and I don't think about them looking at that emblem anymore.I realize the truth is in my heart and that's what is important to GOD and that is what I really care about.

Hello JaumeJ
I agree with you about never giving someone a cross.
If you would sir, what is your reason for not giving someone a cross?

I think this is one of the questions you need to take to the Lord.

Deuteronomy 4:15 15"So watch yourselves carefully, since you did not see any form on the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire, 16so that you do not act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure,
Exodus 20:4
"You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

Deuteronomy 5:8
"You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

The Lord said our life is like a letter to unbelievers it is how you walk out everyday of your life not what you have on that draw true seekers of God to you. The Messiah used the word of God and his relationship to him as his comfort and strength not a material object. I agree with Crossnote scripture is the better way to go then a graven image and it is the example of our LORD.
The Lord told us to be bold so if I want to start a conversation about the Lord, I come right out and ask are you a Christian. Then other times I see a person of another religion and want to share the Lord with them. When this happens I study up a little on the beliefs and next time I see them I open dialog with them. This lets me share the Lord in a none threating way. When people see that you are coming to them for them and not to push something on them the doors open a lot more often. I also do this with " Christians" who don't know their Bible. It is so nice when I have talked to a Christian and when I am done to here them say I need to get back into the word, I have fallen away, I never looked at it that way before, you have opened my eyes, and my favorite one you have been a blessing to me.

I do not wear a cross, The cross is a symbol of a curse. Deuteronomy 21"22-23. My Messiah took away the curse and I choses to walk in the new life he has given me and not to look at the curse I was under. I choses now to live my life to please him. He said Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.Isaiah 43:18
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!2 Corinthians 5:17
Ephesians 4:24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

The Cross is the Milk so to speak to bring you to the Lord = salvation
But then you need to move on mature and come into sanctification = learn to walk in Holiness. This is a process of learning the word and walking in it. Then you are separated unto God for good works. Here you do as he has said for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy 1 Peter 1:16. But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth 2 Timothy 2:15.

Do you draw strength from this cross then it is an idol, The Lord is our strength Psalm 28:7.
Do you draw comfort from this cross then it is an idol, Isaiah 51:12
do you feel I am a Christian with this cross, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
If you draw anything from this cross, this thing of the earth it is an idol.
you have on an instrument of death around your neck. The way the ungodly killed the living God. People to this day are being crucified on crosses. Just check your news CNN and Fox Christians in Iraq are being killed with being shot, there are crucifixions, hangings, and beheadings. How are you showing unity with you brothers and sisters if you have on one of the instrument of their death.

Many people who wear a cross don't even know the Lord other then his name. Let his word and your walk be your witness and reach out with boldness. It is love and compassion that bring in the lost not a piece of jewelry. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven Matthew 5:16
1 Peter 3Your adornment must not be merely external-- braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; 4but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.…

I don't wear a cross because I can only handle gold and silver against my skin. However (opens a can of worms), I did get a tattoo 20 years ago to symbolize God's promises to me. I would definitely wear a cross necklace if I could handle the metals they used today.

I used to wear a cross before and I really would want to wear it everyday but I'm not really comfortable wearing a necklace even those fancy ones.

Notice: I'm wearing one on my avatar.

My catholic friends gave me two. I gave one my daughter and I´m wearing it. In fact it is NOT a cross, just a "token", a vague idea of what it was (I´m not crucified on it).

You mean besides the eyebrows? hahaha

I don't wear jewellery of any kind anymore. As a teen i would wear cross necklaces. In this day and age though, wearing a cross is fairly useless for anything other than personal reasons. Crosses are so common they have lost the meaning to most people.
I remember years ago hearing a story come out of Russia (after the fall of communism there) about the sudden surge in wearing crosses in Russia. One young girl was questioned about why she began wearing them. She said she thought it was a symbol of fun because she saw Madonna wearing them so often. So she mimicked a hyper-sexual celebrity who wore crosses.

first i have to say i have fallen in love with you because of your screen name. :) :)

my other thought (amazing, i have 2 today!) is,
isn't it nice the worldwide symbol of Christianity is a cross (what Jesus has done for us)
and not a ladder (what we must do for Him).

If you want to wear one, then do. If not, then don't. That is my opinion on the subject.
