What is the time period covered by the book? It sounds interesting. I mean that honestly... I've read a few history bricks and I usually come across interesting gems within. I'm presently reading a history of Islamic imperialism from 610 AD to present day. Not huge, but very insightful!

Hi Dino! :)

It begins with the Roman Empire and Italy to Modern Times

Yet the book was written in 1982
It was basically a book I would check out at the library so often...that I just bought it lol

That reminds me....
I need to call my friend at the library.
She will print all my checkouts for me of the past.

A few I'd love to own :)

I do hope libraries will not close in the future....
You know because of online books.

The library has always been a favorite place to me :)

Be careful reading some of that stuff. Be aware of who it's written by and where their sympathies lie. For example: there are plenty of 'historians' who will tell you the Crusades were instigated by the Christians against the poor innocent Muslims. This isn't true at all. But I'm sure you knew that already.

Oh...lol
Before I fall back asleep, I must recommend a factual little book for a history lover

It is called 'The Good Old Days They Were Terrible'
published 1974
Lol now dont the title turn you off

The book is very interesting
Basically it tells truths that often are disguised by say films

To be such an unheard of book...I enjoyed it and was very surpised at many things

This one is balanced. I believe the author is a non-observant Jew. It neither slams the Muslims for their actions nor places blame on non-Muslims. In that it is a refreshing read.

BTW I'm also reading The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Light and fluffy, but interesting the way...
I won't ruin it for you all. :D

Some of the recent talk about The Emergent Church inspired me to start re-reading an old copy I have of No Perfect People Allowed by: John Burke.

It's about the Gateway Community Church in Austin Texas.

The life of Corrie Ten Boom! The book is called "The Hiding Place". She and her family opened their home for Jews in Holland during WWII. It's very inspiring.

I didn't know she had other books! Lol. I'll have to research that. I'm reading it like a turtle. The way it's written makes me overuse my imagination. Lol.

I wonder what would happen if the only book we ever read was the Bible.
In some places and times this was literally true, even in America.
Even today, in some African communities, the kids learn English by using the
Bible as their text book. That's all that is available.
I have a few favorite books that I have read over and over again.
I wonder how I would be affected if I forgot about them, and read only the
Bible over and over again. It is, after all, the only source of absolute truth we have.

That was a neat statement... and one that far too many people couldn't even begin to identify with.
