is it F = C x 1.8 + 32? (or 9/5 in place of 1.8, but ain't nobody got time for fractions? ;))

i really hope it's something similar, because that's what i taught my kids. :p

*hopes a math genius won't point out decimals are fractions, too. and percents.*

Good morning Ellie :) I don't use fractions in my formula :D If starting in Fahrenheit, I minus thirty and then halve. Certain ones I know automatically, like 60F = 15C. It has been quite hot here recently, and I noticed that 80F was 26C. My formula would give me 25C, but 26 is close enough :p Kilometers I round off too, with 3 km = 2 miles, even though 1.6 km, not 1.5, is a mile. Canada went metric in 1970 :eek: Us old folks are constantly converting things :) Grocery stores will often show both pound and kilo values. My daughter was telling me recently that for some things she still uses the old system, for example baking, she would use cup measurements.

Oh my gosh, Cerwin, is it the one by Thomas A Kempis. I started that a week ago after a lot of contemplation. But, I am enjoying reading it, its so good.

If you just care about a rough estimate, just double the value in Celsius and add 30 to it, it works most of the time.

That is basically what I said, albeit in reverse :) It does work perfectly for 15/60 haha :D

Hi! I'm glad to see you back. :) Are your studies going well?

The reason I asked about Screwtape, I think a lot of people don't like it being told from the demon's perspective, and wondered if that was what bothered you.

I'm vacationing right now and enjoying it. :) I start studying again in September. Thanks!! Glad you're still here too. :)

Oh I thought it was entertaining actually, coming from the demons. But I never really agreed to some of C.S. Lewis' ideas, so I guess it's just that. Although, I still think it will be worth reading, if only for the giggles. :D

Vacations are nice, but I am looking forward to the next school year. :) The good thing about being a teacher is we kind of start a new job every year, change things, different students, etc. It is not a good profession for people who are scared of change, though!

I really got a lot out of Screwtape, but my theology and Lewis' did not diverge that much (although I am not high Anglican, go figure). I even underlined, highlighted and made notes in the margins, lol. But to each his own. :) I think it is good you are reading it, as it is a classic- even if you don't get much out of it theologically.

That's interesting to hear. I'm reading the kindle version and I can see highlighted notes (clippings?) by other readers. It's not that I totally disagree, it's just that it doesn't speak to me, personally (people call me hyper-grace, so my theology is kinda 'new'). But I'm sure many others were blessed by this. Same Jesus, after all. :)

Believe it or not, a lot of them are excited about going back to school. They get bored at home, and lonely too, I think.

Lol, that's kind of funny, because I'm considered hyper-grace, myself. I grew up in a Bible church. :) I think my theology is probably a hodge podge, which is not exactly ideal. :( But, like you say- the same Jesus. It is kind of amazing that we all disagree on many things, yet can still be in harmony when it comes to Jesus.

Yeah, He's like the glue. Oh, then, hello fellow hyper-grace! It's good to see more of our kind here in CC haha. In our cell group meetings, with my church-mates, we sometimes talk about the books we read, and yes it is amazing. I realize we all get along, even if Jesus spoke to us in very different ways.

Some Christian books one reads dont mean much. Then years later one grabs the book again and it comes to life! It is about timing and spiritual maturity etc.
