Obesity was just an example off the top of my head. I was saying the OPPOSITE of 'picking' on people. My comment was not meant to offend. I could have easily said black people, or white people, or those who were bald.

@ morefaith - no I didn't see it as a joke. Guess I'm not used to your humour? It's also hard to pick up humour on the internet without seeing someone in person - well, for me anyway.

Peoples hearts are desperatly wicked.. No one is Good.. Only God is good Jesus said..

Luke 18: KJV
19 "And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God."

Do you believe Jesus, when He declared only God is good?

Deluding oneself into thinking they have a good enough heart to qualify themselves to enter into eternal life with God is a one way ticket to the eternal lake of fire.. One must Believe Jesus AND trust 100% in the Atonement Jesus secured on the cross.. Part of believing Jesus is to believe the teachings He gave in His time on earth..

So one can have a very faulty heart and be a chief of sinners and Believe Jesus and trust in His Atonement and be saved.. And another can be a far better human but not perfect and disbelieve the essential teachings and not trust 100% in the Atonement of Jesus and be damned..

A 95% bad person can be forgiven all their 95% badness and be saved while a 95% goodness person can be damned because their 5% badness was not forgiven.. Salvation has always been about being forgiven .. And all sins must be forgiven to have eternal life.. No matter if it is 5% or 95% Both people are offered the same gift from God through the LORD Jesus Christ..
Maybe you hang out with the wrong people? I know some wonderful people of all kinds. And believing a doctrine in your mind is no guarantee of being a wonderful person. Jesus says some great things that are confrontational. He is forcing people to think and go deeper into things. So its like he is saying, " Come on guys! How do you know I,m good? God is good.....what does that mean for you?" Thats my take anyway.

I hang out with normal people. None of them being Perfect.. All of them being sinners.. And i am assured that you hang out with the same kind of people i hang out with..

I know some wonderful people of all kinds.
But not perfect.. Not without sin.. Right?

And believing a doctrine in your mind is no guarantee of being a wonderful person.
Jesus likened Himself to a Doctor.. Saying He came for the sick to save them,, Sick meaning sinners to save them from the eternal judgement they where facing..

Now who values a Doctor most? Thats right a people who are seriously sick and seriously know they need a doctor.. So who values the saving atonement of Jesus the most? The Worst of sinners who know they are guilty of evil deeds.. Jesus also gave a parable about a man who forgave some people of their debts.. One person a small debt and other person a large debt and yet another with a huge debt.. He asked the people which of the indebited people would love the one who forgave them their debt the most... Thats right the one with the biggest debt.. So who loves Jesus the most who values the Atonement of Jesus the most? The chief of sinners thats who.. They know they are not ""Wonderful"" they know they are WOEFULL..

In that particular scripture Jesus Never denied He was Good... He confronted the young man who called Him Good because the young man had the bad habit of calling other faulty human beings good.. The young man did not know that Jesus was God manifested in the flesh.. He thought Jesus was simply a religious teacher.. We should not be calling any man Good because only God is good.. And of course Jesus is Good.

Real life has a way of challenging our theories and theologies. I dont think we can truly follow the greatest commandment unless we learn to think outside our current paradigms.
I don't think Christians should be thinking outside of the Truth of Scripture, and I don't think they should pretend it does not say what it says just to keep from hurting someone's feelings. The Greatest Commandment is to love God. If we deny the Truth of Scripture, how is that loving God?

I could ignore what Scripture says and be super nice to this person, and tell them "gee, that's ok, no worries, just as long as you have a good heart it'll all be swell."

Or, I could tell them the truth.

Come the day they stand before the Judgement Seat, which do you suspect will serve them best?

You know, it takes as much love to say "NO" as it does to say "Yes."
Jesus is love, perfect love, but He didn't pull any punches either.....soooooo

I agree partially with you. When I look at others I see a fraction of the depth of the person. I see a human being. With good points and bad. But when I spend my time 24 hours a day with me......I see tons more wrong. So I am indeed aware of my faults. I am the "chief of sinners" to myself. So I really can only know the depth of God's love for me. Other peoples failings are between them and God, its none of my business unless they ask for my help in some way. Jesus mentioned that we need to deal with the plank in our own eye before we criticise someone for the speck in someone else's eye.I believe this is what he meant.

Jesus said we were sick. We need help. The doctor wouldn't be a very good doctor if he consigned the patient to a torture chamber at the hospital for ever, with no hope of release!

If the seriously sick patent does not avail themselves of the Doctors services they will Die.... If they refuse the Doctors treatement they are doomed..

If sinners do not avail themselves of the Atonement of the LORD Jesus Christ they will be cast into the eternal lake of Fire.. Which indecently is called the second death in the scriptures::

Revelation 20: KJV

13 "And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. {14} And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. {15} And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

EZE. 33:6.
But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned;
if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity;
but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand.

warning is the basic principle - 'preach The Word, in season or out of season'.

I think it honestly just comes from us being human. Stuff that is plainly stated in the Bible and we don’t want to be true, we push back. We get legalistic about things we think SHOULD be more important. Life happens and we become cynical and tired. We miss the mark often times.
