Outside of anesthesia, I've tried it. Didn't work.

As in, I've tried all the herbs, the turkey, the different foods, etc.

I've tried the exercising (two hours before bedtime), the relaxing, the quiet time, the routine, the no late night snack, cut out caffeine decades ago, never had a TV or phone in my bedroom, (Well, once I had a TV, but only because I was recouping from surgery and not allowed downstairs. Could only get ABC, and it was a 13 inch b/w TV, so definitely didn't get addicted to it lol), got the dark shades, etc.

I've tried all three brands of sleeping pills, Benedryl doesn't tire me out, NyQuil and OTC sleep aids actually hype me up.

I have become an expert of how to sleep properly, and yet...

At this point, I'd be willing to take a cast-iron frying pan to my head, if I knew how hard to hit without killing me... or worse yet, giving me a headache.

So, anything at all work? Not the usual stuff -- something different.

Have you ever attended a healing service? Have you turned this over to GOD, who freely heals, restores and cleanses? Lots of times, a spiritual matter can physically affect our bodies. We are 3-D, in that we are physical, mental and spiritual. If any of those parts are suffering or slack, voila....we have issues that spill over into the other areas. The BIBLE has several fantastic stories of faith over-riding the physical disabilities, such as the lady who had an issue of blood for 12 years, used all of her income and monies for cures and finally realized that if she could only get near enough to JESUS and touch the very hem of His garment, then she would be healed. Are you seeking His touch on this? Has the internet, hospitals, clinics and health stores taken His place? Sure, we are to utilize Common Sense when it comes to our health, however, when all seems lost, we do have HOPE in asking and seeking His touch, His healing. I have literally crawled to my living room in the middle of the night and cried out to my Lord and Savior to heal me of my pains and HE listened and He healed instantly. Sometimes the healing occurs at the very last minute. Sometimes the pain slowly eases and wholeness returns in days. It all depends on how much I want HIs Spirit to abide within me. The 'SOMETHING DIFFERENT" that you mentioned just might be His Super touching your Natural.

By the way, turkey won't actually put you to sleep. People get sleepy on Thanksgiving, not because the tryptophan in the turkey, but from overeating. The tryptophan levels in turkey are actually far too insignificant to have any effect.

Of course. I assumed that one is a given. :)

Right. I knew that, but figured I'd cover that one in case someone was going for foods. (We actually eat turkey three times a week, so, if turkey worked, I'd be a good sleeper. lol)

Yes. First time I was given a CPAP machine. Last year, the doctor said I have no sleep apnea, I just snore -- ignoring the fact that even with a sleeping pill, I only slept four restless hours. (BTW, that "just snore" part? Not only can't hubby sleep with me because of the volume level, he also can't sleep downstairs because of the volume level still. And that thing in the back of the throat swells so much from my snoring that it is hard to swallow for the first four hours the next day. So, I bought a new sleeping mask online, bypassing rather useless "sleep specialist.")

So a friend of mine who has had this issue for years...just as I do had done test done saying her magnesium was low. She started taking a magnesium pill one hour before bed last 3 weeks and has slept mire than she has in years. Im picking some up tomorrow and trying it. I too have personally tried everything to no avail. So if its legal i will try it!

It sounds silly, but go to bed at your first yawn.... even if that is 8:00. The reasoning here is that if you fight your way past those early yawns (actually, your body telling you to go to sleep), you defeat your natural sleep cycle, and enter a "waking up" mode. When you, then, try to go to sleep... after you have awakened your body... what else can you expect, but to find that you are no longer sleepy?

This is why it is said that your best sleep actually occurs before midnight or just a few hours into the morning.

I have always found this to be a hoot. But there are some people who swear this turkey eating is a rock-solid fact.

At night I do trigger point therapy with a tennis ball and it makes me soooo sleepy. I don't know why. While standing near a wall or laying on a bed I just take the ball to all my trigger points and let my body rest with pressure for 30 secs a piece. After a few I get so sleepy. It helps keep my muscles feeling relaxed and everyone has trigger points. Then I think of the song that has lyrics that says "hurts so good" lol cuz it does feel awesome!

I sleep better when I have a 20 minute nap after work. Takes me 10 minutes of laying down to unwind and then I sleep for about 20. Then I sleep GREAT when I go to bed. It's awesome.

But I also take a magnesium supplement about 30 minutes before I go to sleep too. I notice if I don't eat sufficiently enough during the day that my sleep is rather disturbed too.

Magnesium does work to relax but can also cause some other issues so I would highly recommend taking it with something like Psylium Husk errr something like that. Definitely get chelated magnesium if you have tummy troubles.

I remember you suggesting this sometime in the last month, so I did it. I was quite comfortable in bed -- no tossing and turning -- but I get too bored after 45 minutes to 80 minutes. My mind isn't clogged with too much stuff. (Not saying there is no stress, but the one thing I can spend needless hours worrying about I can't do a thing about, but pray, so it really is needless worrying, something I tend to avoid.)

Sleep seems to have forgotten its supposed to go hand-in-hand with tired.

My "routine" is back though. When I can sleep three hours one morning, within the next two days I can sleep 7-9 hours at night.

I wrote the OP yesterday morning when most people were going to work, slept three hours after that, and then slept well last night. I may sleep tonight. I may not. But two-three days from now, I'll be right back to hearing the robin start singing. (Did you know robins start somewhere between 4 - 4:30 AM? No wonder worms don't have a chance. lol)

The worse part of the cycle is when I'm sleeping 3 - 5 hours restlessly, during the day for days on end.

I used to give relaxation exercises in a counseling center. (As in, I was the one telling people to breath in 1-2-3-4, breath out 1-2-3-4, now tighten the muscles on your head... until I pretty much put people to sleep. One woman was hard to wake up again. lol) So it's not a tension thing. My muscles don't tighten up, until 40 minutes lying there and then realizing I can't sleep. At that point, I've gone into relaxing them from head to toes again, but if I'm already too bored, that just increases boredom.

That sucks, atwhatcost.
It sounds as if you've tried just about every common remedy.

I remember those days. I loved my after work power-naps. Even talked hubby into that institution when we married. And then insomnia happened. And then doctors blamed it on the nap. I've given up power-naps and caffeine because that's what doctors blamed it on. And I'm now to the point doctors ran out of things to blame it on, but I can't do either anyway. lol

Stop trying to remember what type of husks they use, and just remember what it is -- fiber. (I haven't been able to spell psyllium without pulling out the bottle in the last 15 years I've been taking it "regularly." lol Pun not intended, but enjoyed.) Yeah, magnesium is closely related to iron somehow. They both give the same effects -- both good and bad. And one of the other bad effects is constipation. Then again, if you have Restless Limb, high doses of iron often helps that. (Hubby has that.) And, if you cramp easily, high doses of magnesium helps that. (I have that, but deal with it by happenstance. I love bananas, so eat two a day. And for one reason or another, we can only eat chicken, turkey or fish. We eat chicken three nights a week, too. Chicken has it. Kind of why people make chicken noodle soup when they have the flu. The flu depletes the magnesium, causing the achy, and the steam rising form the soup clears out sinuses. lol)

Yeesh! For someone who hates living healthy, I've had to do it by default. lol (When I was young, I could live on hotdogs, chips, greasy food, and sugary snacks. Now I'm on the borderline of diabetes -- have it, but at the lowest end it gets -- lost my gall bladder, so greasy is out, and hubby has high blood pressure. I can't give up sweets, so I've taken to making desserts without sugar or the high-dose-sugary fruits. On the positive side, I just found a recipe for fudge that is sugar free and low on fats. Bonus points: It has my favorite fruit in it -- bananas! Yay! Fudge may be back on the table. lol)

Shhhhh don't use the F word (fiber)...lol... It helps if you take it with magnesium lol. But yeah you could take it with iron and there ya go! lol. Best always to get it in your food as you are doing but if you believe in leaky gut theory we are low on all sorts of things.
