Any way (as in I don't care if it's healthy or natural) to sleep?

Outside of anesthesia, I've tried it. Didn't work.

As in, I've tried all the herbs, the turkey, the different foods, etc.

I've tried the exercising (two hours before bedtime), the relaxing, the quiet time, the routine, the no late night snack, cut out caffeine decades ago, never had a TV or phone in my bedroom, (Well, once I had a TV, but only because I was recouping from surgery and not allowed downstairs. Could only get ABC, and it was a 13 inch b/w TV, so definitely didn't get addicted to it lol), got the dark shades, etc.

I've tried all three brands of sleeping pills, Benedryl doesn't tire me out, NyQuil and OTC sleep aids actually hype me up.

I have become an expert of how to sleep properly, and yet...

At this point, I'd be willing to take a cast-iron frying pan to my head, if I knew how hard to hit without killing me... or worse yet, giving me a headache.

So, anything at all work? Not the usual stuff -- something different.
There may be something you can try, try not to see your sleeping as good or bad but rather as an natural impulse.

See what happens.

Diabetes, so honey is out. (That and I'm losing weight too, so all I see is slowing down of that even thinking sugar. lol)

You're probably unrelaxed and tense, and how you manage your thoughts has a lot to do with that. If you're constantly in your own head examining yourself and the world around you, it's pretty much impossible to sleep. Try this: when you're in bed, shut your eyes, and when a thought comes to your head, just let it come and go as it pleases, and on to the next, and the next -- not forcefully, just acceptingly -- until they are flowing through your head and you are doing nothing but observing them and letting them be as they please. You'll start to go into a daydream, and that daydream will allow your right brain (the creative, subconscious part) to take over from your left brain (the analytical, logical part). By then, your body will have relaxed, and you'll begin the first stages of dreaming.

Essentially, that's how sleep begins. We technically have two brains (the two hemispheres), that are joined by a membranous link in the middle of both of them. In Western societies our lives are generally built around the logical, linear functions of our left brain (we have routines, educations in maths, sciences, strictly controlled monetary systems and means of trade, daily legal rules to live by) -- there isn't a lot of our upbringings and our nurturing that go into developing our right brains (which children tend to use much more than adults), which control more aspects of our creativity, feelings, intuitions and "big picture" thoughts. We're very institutionalized, in a way, and that is in part responsible for why Westerners tend to have high rates of depression, insomnia, and emotional problems.

Let your creative brain out more often (paint, draw, listen to music) and look after your emotional wellbeing better, and your sleeping will improve.

I find what Omni said interesting. I love when I lay down and I am just thinking random day dreaming thoughts and yes I tend to fall asleep in that weird place. It's very nice. Usually at night when I go to sleep I am thinking of all the worlds problems and then I toss and turn. I will remember this next time and go to daydream mode!

Lynn, we're so sorry to hear about your sleeping problems, and we do have something for you
to try, especially since you've explained how bad your snoring is...

this is something that we have personally tried and it (((definitely))) WORKED FOR ME!
((Hub has reminded me that it has been just about 5yrs. or so ago.)))

my husband was reading a book about natural remedies and started to see my own personal snoring
symptoms being described =
(((he said that I snored so loud that he would often have to go to another room to get some sleep)))
for years he never told me this but my snoring just got worse and worse so he finally confessed,
because he used to get back into bed with me before I woke up, so I never knew!!!
my blessed big lambi=pie can fall asleep before his head hits the pillow, this is beyond my imagination...
just wanted to add for humor, I can carry-on a conversation with him while he is asleep and he will
answer everything and never even wake up:p he can also fall asleep while I am talking to him,
go figure.

I've had terrible sleeping disorders for years, but Jesus has helped me to over-come them little-by little
by showing me and teaching me about the reasons and back-ground for them....so that I was able to
face my many fears and learn from whence they came......when they start to leave, we start to heal!

BUT, back to the (SNORING) - hubby said I sounded like a freight-train, pulling an out=board yacht motor!!!

ANYWHAY, from his reading, he found out that around (90)percent of people, 'especially ' women, have a
bacteria called, (CANDIDA) and it is DIRECTLY RELATED to' HEAVY SNORING' - (the book that he read about
it in, is a book that the Medical Profession is not crazy about the public reading, guess WHY???

THE GOOD NEWS -
1. no side affects, for me anyway.....
2. fairly inexpensive.....($20. to $60 - hubby bought mine for about $30.00.
3. it has a very high percentage rate of success.

THE ACTUAL NAME OF THE PRODUCT IS CALLED, (((CANDIDA CLEANSE)))
I took this remedy about (5)yrs. ago, and since then, hubby says that the sound
that I make when sleeping is like a very soft, quiet, breathing.
this is TRULY amazing, because it truly DID work for me...
of course I can't give any guarantee, only Truthful Testimony.

we pray this will help you and others.......

The number one reason I give up lying on the bed to try to sleep after half an hour to 45 minutes is because I'm bored. I don't have anything that stresses me out enough to think about for long. My biggest thoughts are two goals for what I want to accomplish tomorrow (usually one habitual chore and one project chore.) That takes me all of two minutes to sort through, and if I don't get to it, I don't get to it. After that I do let my mind go where it wants.

It's really not what's roaming in my head. I can even pick out the first layer toward sleep because random images and random phrases from no one I know and nothing I've heard float into my mind. Things like "Susan Jericho was top..." (No idea who that is either, nor does it bother me that the sentence doesn't end.) or "Metal parts keep it slow." As long as I don't catch those voices to try to figure out what it was about, I know I should sleep soon. It irritates me if I go from there to wide awake though because that means I was getting there and my body gave a wake up call to my brain.

As for creative part? I'm working on a query letter to get my novel published. :)

The only reasons hubby and I don't sleep together are his restless limb, (he's downright dangerous when asleep -- bruising himself and almost knocking me out of bed more than once lol), both have insomnia, AND, we both wear CPAP masks. The air tubes would tangle together, but he does say I don't snore anymore.

My snoring is genetic. I have a deviated septum. (My nose is crooked and it's never been broken. It's the family nose. Three of my brothers and I both came from the same parents and we all have variations of one nose or the other, but everyone of us have the deviated septum. Again -- can't get my Dad's naturally curly hair, but got his nose. Figures. lol)

I believe you that women are likely to have a bacteria that causes it, but the snoring is genetic. And, if I'm snoring, I'm sleeping, so snoring was never a problem for me. (Just to hubby. lol)

Lynn, i dont know causes, but here's a paste from something not so rcent i came across before:

Q: Emf Radiation Can Be a Sleep Depriver
therooster
March 1st, 2007

I've has problems with sleeping for over 10 years, which only got worse, recently, when the household income toook a sinister "hit". My sleeping became a bigger problem. I hadn't really taken the issue seriously until recently. Call me apathetic , I suppose.

I finally decided to do something, so I got on the net and spent about 4 hours tracking down information. I came across an issue about household EMF radiation that was something rather new for me. Having a bit of electrical background, I looked into it. It seems that EMF is a big problem, bigger than I had imagined, anyway. Widespread and quite serious too. Sleep and Epilepsy are two of the areas that are noticably affected.

One thing led to another and I ended up at an EMF seminar. I was really amazed and surprised. I heard serveral testimonials about various conditions and among the testimonials, 3 people shared their sleep disorder experiences, while there was someone who also suffered from Epilepsy.

Through the seminar, I came to know of a simple technology that plugs into the home that reduces EMF. That was the easy part to buy into because I know what "dirty electricity" is and how various frequencies can be picked up by city and household electrical mediums. The real test was "does it work" ? I thought to have someone who does some EMF environmental testing to the house and when I saw the readings, I was floored !!! Thankfully, the consultant had a solution which was a little plug-in "gizmo" that was actually designed for electrical conservation and cost reduction for the home. It was a no-brainer because even if it didn't help my sleep, I'd at least get a break on the ole power bill. I was amazed after the very first night. I slept 7 hours straight and woke up fresh as a daisy. I've slept well since and feel excellent. I haven' slept like this isnce I was 36-37. My electrical bill came down too ! Bonus !

EMF radiation is part and parcel of all A.C. electrical systems. There's no escapimg it. Most homes are a gridwork of harmfull EMF and the amount of EMF that we are exposed to , on average , today, is about 100,000 times what people of the early 1900's would have been exposed to. My, we love our gadgets, don't we ?

Btw, as u said uv tried lots, and melatonin too? somewhere i read sometimes ppl are given too large doses (tabs available at 1-10 g, are they?) when a person may need only 0.5g. Idk and sometimes when i sleep at 10 and wake at 12, i just decide to take melatonin then than wonder if i could go back to sleep still. Like last night, folks were in late and i was still awake at 12 hoping to get to sleep on my own. But when someone turns on light and i remain awake til 1.30ish, i think i must take some after all.

NyQuil and OTC sleep aids actually hype me up.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but have you tried dayquil? I have a family member that nyquil keeps them up and dayquil puts them to sleep....it is crazy.
