It has been my experience that people who follow a conventional American diet and lifestyle begin to physically break down generally in their mid fifties and onward. If it has not happened to you yet, a good chance to will in the next 5 years or so.
This is so true. My grandmother is in care at the moment, and she's been a vegetarian for all of her life. She's in better shape than some of the people there who are in their fifties. They're in a wheelchair, they have diabetes, they can't work, they refuse to exercise, even just a short walk throughout the day - it's sickening to see how their ailments are 100% totally imposed and subsequently expect visitors to feel sorry for them. My grandmother, although slightly physically frail, is walking, healthy and far more mentally agile than those approx 40 years her junior who will never make it to my grandma's age due to life choices.

I have tried going veg but have suffered numerous headaches and fatigue as a consequence. No matter how I try to mix vegetable/grain/fruit protein, it just doesn't work for me. But if it works for you, fine - go for it. :)
Sorry I haven't replied to this till now, Like the above post, you were just going through detox. Having headaches is a very common side effect of detoxing. It is actually a good thing ,it's your body ridding itself of all the nasty toxins.

Yet another citizen draining the health care system of taxes I pay into because they refuse to take care of themselves and in the mean time I cost the system practically nothing.
Not much experience, huh?

My family either dies young or dies old.

All three grandfathers died between 39 and 62. Mom at 44.

Grandmothers died at 89 and 93. The one who lived to 93 was "young" when she died since her two sisters and brother lived longer. Her older brother and sisters drank a gallon of whiskey a week and smoked. (The brother smoked cigars. The sisters smoked cigarettes.)

The one who lived to be 89 had a twin sister who lived a few more years.

Both sides of the family also included great-great aunts who lived into their mid 90's up to 102. The one who only lived to 94 still drove until her death. And, because she was constantly being told old people should stop driving, she went in for her driving test just to make sure every 6 months. Perfect score every time. She was a NYC socialite in her youth, so she too was big into drinking.

Most meals in my family were half a plate for meat, one spoon of canned veggies, (a can of veggies fed a family of 5-6), and the rest of the plate was potatoes. Once a week, potatoes was spaghetti. Gravy, made mostly from the fat of the animal smothered everything. Being good Irish Catholics, Friday night was fried fish night. Deep fried. Crisco. Crisco reused until it had more old food in it than fat.

My dad, he who made half of those meals, is an alcoholic. He was sober for three years out of my whole life. He averaged four cases of beer a week and didn't drink any until after work. When he quit beer, he drank a gallon of Galleons on week nights and three gallons on weekends. He's still young. Today is his 86th birthday.

Hard to believe, but your experience seems to be a desire to control how others eat. I suspect you drain "taxpayer money" a lot more than you realize. After you "diagnose" people and put them on your diet, a few years later, they get sicker, go to their doctors and realize what that few year lack of judgement has cost them. your "saving grace" is you don't see that because you've already deemed them unworthy -- "A drain on taxpayer money."

Question 1- What is a "conventional American diet"? I have been on this Earth for 28 years, and in my 28 years I haven't seen this conventional food you speak of. If you were to actually look at people's diets here you'll notice something strangely odd. That no one eats the same food.

Question 1.5- Why is America always brought up by certain people on this website when food is involved? It's almost like discrimination. Oh hey you are American so you are fat and unhealthy is all I hear.

Question 2- When did the OP EVER STATE that s/he wanted to argue which is better? I mean come on and grow up. Everyone has their choice in diet. The only one that is wrong is obviously the one full of gummy bears and cereal.

And lastly Question 3- Who cares what diet someone is on unless you are going to support the OP with information.

I eat meat, vegetables, fruits, and fats. I eat more salads for lunch, 90% of the time not even meat with it. But you hand me a steak I'll enjoy it and I'll eat the fatty bits.Moderation is the key to everything. If you eat 500 oranges in a day, you'll have diabetes the next morning. I have heard of great pure protein diets. It is all in what you like to eat, but remember moderation is your friend.

What does the bible say about what we should eat?

We live in America is the instigator and originator of most of the shaping of the processed and chemical laden foods we eat, so we use standard American diet (SAD) to symbolize that.

The OP asked if anyone was vegan, raw, etc. The op did not state it was limited to one word replies. Like yes or no. In fact I think the OP welcomes some expansion on why he or she may choose raw or vegan. This naturally leads to explaining that raw or vegan may have been a better diet for the individual posting about it. I don't think there is anything unreasonable about that.

I care what diets people are on for a few reasons. First and most importantly, the bible calls us to love our neighbors. I want to see people live long and quality lives. Spiritually and physically.
Second, when people make bad choices concerning their diets, it affects me as far as where my tax money is being allocated.
Third, it drains this country of resources that can be helping the poor.

Here is a definition of what conventional means. Hopefully this will clear up what a conventional American diet is.

[h=2]con·ven·tion·al[/h] (kən-vĕn′shə-nəl)adj.1. Based on or in accordance with general agreement, use, or practice; customary: conventional symbols; aconventional form of address.
2. Conforming to established practice or accepted standards;

No, to answer ur question. We only minimize meats, but i dont think we can afford to be... in the sense that marketing for one (scheduling that is, so none dries out or gets unusable or uneatable before we can prepare it) cannot be done so often. Esp in a hot climate, that would mean spending more, buying more often, and taking a while longer to prepare because even root crops wc normally would last longer, also become unusable when stored and they werent dried or cleaned enough when purchased. \For ex., yuca or cassava, wc i have discovered is very rich in vit C, and that was never mentioned in any class in school or in my readings, is often sold fresh after harvest, but i hear it best used within a week. (Havent gotten to finding other ways to preserve except to refrigerate, but in time it also darkens.) I accidentally discovered that as i tried to see the daily values of food items we consumed to see what we could do more w/. And it cannot be eaten raw, we're told, so what good would it be for.. fodder-)? And so with many other food items we can easily obtain, but with family around, we also always have to consider their preferences.

I reply to this in a rush, sorry, as i am catching some sked, but abt the 'arguments' that seem to come up when some diets are talked about, i think as some ppl say, we are all free to choose what wwe like and find healthy, but as some do not know, it is easy to be fooled abt what is and is not healthy. even i thought all my life i was eating healthy bec. i loved fruits and veggies and i never grew fat, but w/o enough exercise... a health screen showed some inelasticity in some vascular tissues, and skin elasticity also, dryness, whatever those cvoefficients i cannot just remember now, but are so impt, it was being explaind to me (not by an MD of course-) as our skin is like our 3rd kidney so we dont allow it to deteriorate esp in hot climes like ours. Selenium... selenium what? Collagen too, why i dont think i ever heard that all the yrs i went to school, and how impt to get. but if ur not meat eaters, i dont remember where else they are abundant in except ribs, chicken feet and skin-) wc we often discard bec.we learned they are unhealthy. Anyway, as i see a chemo patient recovering and see and hear her doc say she can eat meat soups, etc but discourage lemon grass and other 'vegetable' teas and even viands... i can only say we do not have to listen and believe all our MDs are telling us abt health. i cannot agree to all jospeh says, esp bec we cannot afford those gadgets he recommended before.. (was there a dehydrator and what else?) but we can listen to what those who trained on these have to say after evaluating our own diets and lifestyles..

let me add this. i recently talked w/ a man i his 70s, actually a poor man living on land he tills but wc was never his. he was allowed by the owners to care for some unused properties. he said he was poor, but he didnt look it, in fact he looked fit, and also mentioned chewing on ginger as candy when needed. my, i couldnt do that, but if u lived mostly on the plants around (lived near a forest) and those he planted, and did not forget to call on the Lord he said, and not have enemies...

certain foods are nothing more than certain drugs, and all will have affects if you decide to
(detox),- the symptoms will be the same as if you were getting off of herion, sugar, sodas, etc. -
or any other addictive drugs...(legal-illegal)

only through Faith in God's and with His help will it be possible to detox and find the peace and comfort
in the over-coming of the bondages of this world...

Emma and I have been raw for 6 years now. We started the diet a year before we got married, and we have been strict raw since. It was really hard at first, but now we love it. Our four year old routinely asks for raw kale ;P!

You are just detoxing. You will start feeling better if you keep it up.

I'm pretty sure fruit, bread, pasta, rice and veggies are all 'normal'. I encourage you to keep at it and use good quality natural supplements to counteract any temporary effects.

I have been reading 2 books recently, one on detox/cleansing, and another altho i am not dieting for the sake of getting skinny, is actually abt fat habits and slim solutions (daw). According to the latter book, ppl have so many habits in eating and living, that affect our health and that we can change if we are so willing to accept and change. I just happen to have copies of the book available so i tried to see what nutritionists have to say for everyone big and small, young and old. but i'd rather find some excerpts or the writers themselves saying what they have to say, for i may end up simply copying or misquoting/ not explaining as well what they presented so i am giving this time. Basically, what i understood is even when we have to detox, we need to slow down or prepare the body by stopping some meats and hard to digest stuff and not just plunge in, and there is also the need to nutrify and replace nutrition gradually. Otherwise, the ill effects which others experience and which discourage them to do again for not knowing 'how to do it.'

Great explanation, very educative.
