hub and I have a friend who went to the same 'church' for decades with lots
of family and childhood friends attending - the pastor was getting up in
age and they hired a new, young one - one sunday while the new pastor was
preaching a sermon, she was following along with her Bible and
discovered that he was quite in error on the subject -
I might add, she was one of the most dedicated, loving, giving,
zealous sister in Christ that either one of us has ever known...
after the sermon was over she asked if she could speak with him
privately and they met in his office - when she pointed-out his
errors, he flat-out told her that if she didn't like his preaching
then she could just go somewhere else...

she was devastated and did go somewhere else after not
attending church for quite a while...
also it caused several breaches with family and friends -
a heart-breaking situation to say the least...
The problem is what is the issue. The Apostles Creed defines what a Christian must believe. It defines the core beliefs and anything contrary to that is heresy. Anything outside of that is agree to disagree. It was created in 390 after the previous Roman Creed was considered too vague. Differences of opinion on many issues were common. The creed defined the basic Christian doctrine.

I disagree. We are to believe what the Bible teaches, not a creed created by man in 390.

I think that is my business. I need not explain anything to you. Why should I go through a whole diatribe of explanation, who are you? You just got through explaining of a spirit teaching you everything and you are closed to anything else. Why should anyone bother if you know everything already.
i'm nobody sister, you need not explain anything to me. i apologize if i have offended you, i was just curious

This is a problem I have. I don't belong to a church at this time because I haven't found one that even attempts to do in depth bible study. I've seen a lot of drama in the church also. I do have some friends that I study with.
i follow Gospel of Grace Fellowship on youtube. They are a Church in minnesota (or maybe wisconsin?) But the preaching is Christ-centric and Gospel-centric. Check it out if you'd like. They really go in depth and continually tie everything back to Christ and the gospel.

Happens all of the time. This site switched to a new format a month ago, previously, on each post the sex of the member was color-coded, blue for males, pink for females. Now, you have to go to the trouble of going to a member's profile page to determined the sex. Also, on each post was the member's age listed if they enabled the option to show it. The sex of the member and the age are important in determining an appropriate response. :)

You read the bible, you know what it says, you go to a Church and the pastor is preaching things that you know are out-of-context, misunderstood, or just plain wrong.

What do you do?

My apologies if this is posted in the wrong section!
I would stand and noisily walk out.

There are reasons why a pastor can't change his teaching, and some of them are good reasons.
what are the reasons? both good and bad?

The main reason they could not rebaptize me was because it would have started a chain reaction. If they redo one, everyone will question theirs. I know now I did not need to be baptized again but I was just obeying God. He was giving me a lesson on the inflexibility of church doctrine. :)

Good reason: He's in the employment of a denomination that is trusting him and paying him to advance their doctrine, not someone else's.

Bad reason: He thinks his credibility as a teacher of truth appointed by God is undermined if he has to admit he doesn't know something. He thinks pastors are expected to have all the (right) answers and can't be wrong so he sticks tenaciously to what he's been teaching and rejects all correction or further learning.

Try to debate the pastor if you have enough knowledge of the Bible and try to lambast his false teachings so that other will be enlightened.

if you are not the debate type then leave that church and find a church whose existence can be traced from 1st century AD (choose any of these churches: Catholic; Orthodox or Coptic Church)

most if not all of newly founded Bible based groups are in fact religious scams that make members' money merchandise for profit of money hungry pastors.

2 Peter 2 King James Version (KJV)

2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Romans 16:18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

i consider those both to be bad reasons. especially when you consider the "someone else" in this is God.
i do understand what your saying though. Thanks for the explanation.

Not saying that many, maybe most preachers and "churches" preach heresy, but some of you might want to examine what you perceive as truth.
What some of you have posted is far from truth.
Could be that those you believe are so wrong are the ones with the truth.
