If you are asking whether it is a recognized and official tool of Satan with a demonic presence... I have no idea.

If you are asking whether you personally should play it or not, that is your decision to make.

If you are asking whether it is a good game for Christians in general to play, I would have to say no. Not because of any demonic influence in the game, but because it is a complete waste of time. It seems to be a replacement for a social life, much like World of Warcraft.

Of course there are many things people can use as replacements for a social life, like Facebook and forums, even Christian forums. But Dungeons & Dragons is one of the more commonly used social life replacements.

Yeah but is it evil? Should Christians be playing it?
It's not evil. It's just a role-playing game that uses dice whenever you need to determine the outcome of something like a fight between two characters....

The reason people started saying it was evil is because there are these monsters that people made up themselves for the game to be really scary and demonic-looking. Some are like dragons, others look like demons and are even supposed to be demons in the game (have imaginary magic powers like walking through walls or making your character die just by touching it lol). People made them up and there were even books you could buy which had all these professionally created imaginary monsters that you could use in your game.

Also, some warn against playing it because some people became so obsessed with playing it that it became the center of their lives and basically an addiction. I think there was one time when a kid who was into it killed his family members with a sword, but that was obviously an isolated incident.

Thanks guys. I was asking because my cousins love it and they are both teenagers. They spend a lot of time playing. It is becoming an obsession like ZT says.

Like anything in our lives, moderation is the key. Anything overdone to the extreme is not good for us spiritually.

Like Paul said:
1 Cor. 6:12 "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any." I couldn't have put it better, myself.

D&D is attractive to some because it gives a player a feeling of power. No matter how bad your real life is doing... in THE GAME you are a level 83 paladin who can vanquish all!

But it can come in handy if you find yourself in a Bill and Ted situation...

Why doesn't someone create a GOOD role-playing game like D&D that is edifying for Christ? I would consider it if I knew enough about D&D like games.

Just remember, no matter how strong your level 97 knight is... no matter how powerful your wizard's spell is... no matter how defensive that +6 armor is... your game is still not immune to somebody flipping the table over.

Or maybe redeem our time in a better way. Anything that gobbles up our hours without edification is a vain pursuit.

.
Perhaps you should read my post again paying special attention to the phrase "edifying for Christ".
