SO, I've had a friend from here.....Siberian_Khatura (I think that was his username) and we visit each other pretty regularly. We hung out last night and talked about CC from the olden days and mentioned this specific thread <3

Grandma is gone.

She died comfortably in her own home, with all her family around her.

She was unconscious for the last week and six days. Three of her kids - my aunt, uncle and dad - basically lived in her living room, turning her and changing her periodically.

For the last three years she has required a sitter whenever I'm not here.

Sometimes she thought I was her son. Sometimes i was her husband. Sometimes she never had any kids. But she was always ready to stick her tongue out at me.

But she stayed in her home. We didn't have to send her to a nursing home. She would have been VERY unhappy living in a strange place.

And it was thanks to your faithful dedication, being with her, cooking her meals, and making sure that she was cared for 24/7, that allowed her to be able to stay in her own home -- a luxury many don't, or won't, have.

May God's blessings and comfort be on you and your family. ❤️🙏🏼🌹

Partial repayment on what I owe her.

Even if you don't count the peanut butter fudge, biscuits, chocolate oatmeal cookies, overnight stays, reading stories...

Just the things she did NOT tell my momma, that alone I owe her a lot for. Like when I figured out I could sneak in her unlocked kitchen window, so one day she came home to find a big bite taken out of a block of cheese slices. She never mentioned it to Mom, because I never got the spanking I really should have got for it.

So yeah, I owed her. If she had needed 24 hour care for another six years I'd still owe her.

You humbly performed God's work in your care of your grandmother. Quite commendable.

I just learned three things all at once.

1. The broil setting on the oven is a powerful tool.
2. Hamburger buns are flammable.
3. The smoke alarm still works just fine.

See, I have a lot of hamburger buns. When somebody dies in the south, all your friends bring food. In the south some of this is pulled pork barbecue. That comes with buns. Nobody in my family does buns. Then the family all went to their respective homes and I am left with 43 hamburger buns.

So I decided to make some garlic toast and freeze it. But apparently I haven't got it quite right yet.

LOL that is so true, hamburger buns are flammable. It is a good quick way to make garlic bread from scratch, but not frozen.

Steaks turnout quite well in the broiler; just have to remember (as in other heating) steaks continue to cook once you take them out to sit/set, so take it out a "full step" rarer than you really want it. Obviously, it works to flame-broil thinner burgers, but I'd probably only do that in the wintertime.

I also crisp-up leftover fried chicken and pizza in the broiler (I medium-heat-setting nuke a chicken breast first). It's a fast heat & crisp, so you're not really heating up your house much more than toaster (hot coil) ovens. Although I started using the broiler when I lost my convenient small toaster oven. :)

Been away for a few days. Lost a family member in his sleep - and now it's just hitting me because I'm back at my place. I live alone. I don't know what to do.

But honestly, I need to bring my hurts, my sadness and everything, to Jesus. I'll do that after this post <3

Comedian quote:

I used to be a liberal. I had to give it up. I wasn't certain enough about my guesswork.

Liberalism is like a nude beach. It sounds like a good idea, until you get there. Lots of cankles, lots of misspelled tats.
