let's name at least one positive thing about your opponent you are debating against

what are some ways to be more "positive"?

He is very spiritual. Being more positive may take a bit of contemplating. Very interesting thread that you created.

I respect people who try and use scripture to back up what they believe, even if I do not agree with their viewpoint.

thank you tourist, you are the first one to post, I hope that BDF forum people can describe at least one thing positive about the opponent they are debating against

like for example, you wouldn't question the salvation of others just because of disagreements, right?

Nope.

That's not uncommon here.... If someone disagrees with someone else on some point of doctrine, all too often one accuses the other of not being saved, or of being a heretic.

And in the unlikely event that I did question someone's salvation, I certainly would not say so publicly.

I hope people realize that Satan would be eating popcorn with 3-D glasses being thrilled at watching people doubting each other's salvation, accuse each other of being a heretic, and letting the flesh respond to each other in a verbal fist fight.

I hope that people realize this, and decide not to give Satan that kind of satisfaction and stop the all too common senselessness.

What is they believe in salvation by works and have placed their trust in their own effort rather than in Jesus?
I would be very concerned for their eternal soul and , Yes I would say so.

SpoonJuly does have love and compassion, and we can thank the Lord for this,

may this love and compassion, help SpoonJuly to speak the truth with love and what some bible version would call "tenderkindness", amen

and I like that username of yours for some reason

Tenacity is generally good, but tenacity in promoting error is not.
Nehemiah has a well balanced view on what proper tenacity is. Let's keep our perspective balanced

and his username is indicative if being inspired by Jonah and the Whale, good choice, to remind oneself of the need to be ready to forgive others, even the city of Nineveh

in science, it's "percent error"
but in "the negation of science" what is it?
Sorry, that went over my head.. :)

Nehemiah6 is right, "tenacity in promoting error is not [good]." The problem is we have different understandings as to what constitutes error. N6 and I disagree strongly on some things. Neither one of us will budge, at least not so far. I believe he's my brother in Christ. He has not said I'm not saved, but he has openly said my views on some things are heretical.

Time will tell..

Umm... no, an argument is already starting to form.
Apologies. While that was not my intent, I can understand why you would see it that way.

There are many on this forum that I may disagree with on some issues while agreeing with on others.
I consider them as brothers in Christ.
All issues are important. But to me, the issue of salvation is the most important and when I see someone who has placed his faith in anything or anyone other than Jesus, it really troubles me. But when they try to lead others down that path, they become my enemy not my brother.
The question is, how do we deal with those who are leading others down the path to Hell.
I believe there is pattern for this in the Scripture as we look at how Jesus and Paul dealt with these people.
First is in love. Always in love. Love for their soul that never stops.
So with love we try to lead them to the truth.
When that does not work, we must be very blunt and use the "in your face" approach.
Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites and Paul said to mark them.
When that does not work, we are to just let them continue down their road to hell.
Jesus instructed the disciples and the 70 to stay and teach those who would learn but to walk away from those who would not and to "shake the dust from your feet". Make a public statement of what you are doing.
It is not about not loving them, praying for them, and leaving the door open for them to come to the truth, but don't waste you time when others are seeking the truth.
In my opinion, much time is wasted on some who simple believe they are "all knowing" when it would be much better to just ignore. i.e. Mark them, shake the dust from our feet.

See, the thread is already off topic and now focused on salvation debates and false teachings and not saying positive things about those you disagree with.

An apology is meaningless if you continue on. This thread will just be another debate thread, like the rest.
