I was married for 26 years, and never had a single beer that entire time. I was divorced seven years ago and since that time my life has spiraled out of control with alcohol.
The worst thing that could have happened two nights ago, I was involved in a head on collision, which injured some people.
I have been told I will be charged with DUI, once the blood test from hospital comes back.
I do not know how seriously the other people are injured yet, will be spending time in jail, at least six months.
I am not a criminal and do not know how I will survive in jail.
My career is over and I will be spending tens of thousands of dollars on this. I have been begging God to help me with this alcohol issue and he has abandoned me.
I don't know what else I can say, other than I hope the people are ok and I cannot believe how far I have sunk.
I always thought when you asked God for strength, he would help you with things like this, but it has not worked with me.
I am going to lose everything and could end up homeless. I have no one to help me but God, and he has not.

I hope your life improves Rich..

But know this.. If we are with God in eternity then all the disasters and traumas of this world will be as nothing.. The most important ""help"" we have received is the Atonement for our transgressions Jesus secured for us by His death and resurrection... His Help see's us have eternity in His perfect existence.. So even if we lose everything in this life we still have eternity..

May your current situation be the lowest point of your life and may your future from now on in this life be one of improvement.. May those injured be cured too..

God didn't abandon you.

You abandoned God.

You chose a bottle to be your god.

But, unlike a divorced spouse, God will take you back.

You should spend time in prison. There is no alcohol there. Good time to dry out.

If the only input you have is first, being a jerk, and second, not having a clue as to what you are talking about, then perhaps you should keep your mouth shut.

Tommy was not being a jerk. You say you are not a criminal and yet you broke the law by driving under the influence of alcohol beyond the legal limit, had a head-on collision as a result of your intoxication which caused others to sustain possibly serious injuries, and you may very well go to jail for it. Even if you do not go to jail, breaking the law makes you a criminal.

In God's economy, those under the law who break one law break the whole of the law. Be thankful you may only be charged with DUI, and not all the other things you have done to hurt others in the last seven years as your life spiralled out of control. Besides all that, Tommy is (or was) a cop, and has no doubt dealt with many such as you, and attended numerous accident scenes. PLUS, he has been through a soul destroying divorce, so he understands the pain you have been in due to the breakdown of your marriage. That does not entitle you to be coddled by him.

The first thing you need to do is get sober. If you have never been to an AA meeting, start now. Share when you are asked, and be honest telling people what is really going on in your life. Some in your situation are able to avoid jail time altogether if the judge can see you have made strides to improve the conditions of your life, and some, whether they do jail time or not, are able to turn their lives around and become a blessing to those who are headed down the same self-destructive path, by sharing their experience, strength, and hope with them.

Your life is not over, and God has not abandoned you. Get involved with a spiritual community, go to meetings, go to church, earnestly seek God's will in your life through prayer and meditation, and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Those are all just suggestions, but I can guarantee you that if you follow them, your life will get better and your attitude will improve, no matter what happens.

Kinda strange, seeing as every communication in the forum is typed.

Thanks Magenta.

Friday night, I responded to a head on crash. Of course the inebriate that caused it, was uninjured, while the three in the other vehicle, had to be flown out to regional hospitals.

First of all, this belongs in another forum. This is the INTRODUCTIONS forum. Second, you drank and drove, which IS a crime, so you ARE a criminal. I pray the people you hit will survive and be okay. You chose to drink and drive, and this is your consequence.

Also Tommy is a cop, so maybe you should listen to his advice, instead of giving snarky responses. You need rehab, and if prison is where you need to go to get it, then so be it..

Seems like it's always the drunk one, that never gets injured.. :/ I hope they will all be okay, Tommy..

I’m sorry that your marriage ended after 26 years. I’m sorry that it was the only thing keeping you sober. I’m sorry that your impaired judgement put you behind the wheel and consequently sending innocent people to the hospital or maybe the grave. What I’m most sorry about is you thinking that God is a “get out jail free” card. God saved us from eternal damnation, not the effects of our own stupidity. Laws are supposed to do that, like the law not to drink and drive. Own your mistake. You hurt people. We serve God. God doesn’t serve us.

Welcome, Rich...
If you do stick around here (and I hope you do), you will learn a lot. Most people here aren't going to soft-peddle with you, because that won't help you.

My question to you is this: do you want genuine, truth-based life-redeeming change, or do you just want to be happy in the manure of your present circumstances?

I'm awful sorry for all of this going on in your life Rich

but God is not a patch for a tire with a hole in it. and like Tommy said, you left God...not vice versa

you need to dig real deep and find your responsibility button. you are responsible

the way out is often the way through. at least I have certainly found that to be so.

I do feel badly for you in your situation, but like Dino said, we are not going to pat you on the back and tell you 'poor baby'

might be time to really seek God, sincerely ask for His help and to give you wisdom and maybe a person or two to help you through this because it really does help to have someone alongside who can offer Godly advice and pray with you

Apparently the OP didn't like the answers he was getting as he left rather quickly so there is no need for this thread to keep getting bumped.
