The Holy Ghost was not given until after Jesus ascended, but in Isaiah 63:11,
"Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people saying,
Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock;
Where is he that put his Holy Spirit within him?
God the Father was the administer of The Holy Spirit in the old test.,
Given to who He wanted, for His purpose.

Now Christ Jesus is the Administrator of the Holy Spirit ,
but it's the same power of God.

5I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, (by my great power)
and by my outstretched arm, (and have given it) (unto whom] it seemed meet unto me.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall [receive] of mine, and shall [shew it] unto you.

In Isaiah 63:11, the word "Spirit" is the Hebrew word rū-aḥ. The first use of the word rū-aḥ is Gen 1:2 which states and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

We know from Eph 4:4 that there is one Spirit. So we know that the Holy Spirit before Pentecost is the same Holy Spirit after Pentecost. And we know from John 14:26 that the Comforter is the Holy Spirit.

While I believe the Holy Spirit of the OT is the same Holy Spirit of the NT, I also believe that in OT, the Spirit rested upon God's people and in our day and time the Holy Spirit dwells within those who are born again.
But Isaiah 63:11 plainly states that the Holy Spirit was "within him", not "upon him".

Why always ask for Scripture, is not the Holy Spirit indwelling in all who believe?

How do you believe it possible for the prophets to have written down God''s words for them?

Hos is it possible for Enoch to have been translated were it not the Holy Spirit?

Were I to say God has spoken to individuals even today, you would most likely ask for Scripture to support the declaration……..Well my friend, that takes faith.

Peopl who hav had the necessary teaching for each of them from the Word have been taught by the Holy Spirit……….Do you need scripture for this too?

The Holy Spirit in you should testify to what people share here and in person with you. It is strongly adviseable that you learn to believe all things good, all things beautiful……...
The Holy Spirit was within the apostles before Jesus ascended, but the Holy Ghost was not indwelling until after Jesus ascended. There must be a difference in the two to some degree.

Those prepositions and grammar distinctions and usage of words from then to now and to other versions……….read them, as many as possible just as most who study do.

In this manner you will find the difference in usage of those pesky prepositions, and then, perhaps, the English will be understood when read, since no one seems to be hearing from God, Himself.

Before the day of Pentecost humans who where given the Holy Spirit/Ghost only received it for a time.. Only after the Day of Pentecost did people receive the Holy Spirit/Ghost permanently..

So the Apostles did have the Holy Spirit/Ghost for the time they all went out to preach the Gospel in Israel before Jesus was executed..

That can be debated, there's no telling how long this person was doing what he was doing very possible a long time.

Mark 9:38
And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.

You seem to be assuming that the person casting out devils needed to have the indwelling of the holy Spirit to do it...
When it could have just been that just speaking the name of Jesus was enough to compel the demon to leave..

Maybe 50/50 who knows, but I would like to see any verses in the bible that directly says the Holy Spirit wasn't given until Pentecost. True the spirit entered into the room and came into the disciples but where does scripture say that was the first time God ever allowed it.

I haven't seen any verses that directly say that was the first time, so until I do see some it is a assumed man made idea.

I do not have the position that people did not receive the Holy Spirit before the day of Pentecost.. My position was and is that people did receive the Holy Spirit before the Day of Pentecost but that they only received it for a limited time to assist then to serve Gods purpose..

I would say without doubt that all the writers of the Books of the OT and all the prophets received the Holy Spirit so that they could give their prophecy and have their hands guided as they wrote the Books of the Bible.. But again it was not a permanent anointing..

Hmm if you say your position was that people did receive the Holy Spirit before Pentecost, was the comment you first made to me just to contradict my statement, kind of odd you say no it could of been just the name Jesus not the spirit upon him.

If that is the case, then the disciples went out to drive out demons with only the power of His name and nothing else, the sprirt wasn't upon them.

I commented on your scripture quote as a question and an observation about the scripture you quoted..

It was::
1) Do you believe that a person needs to be indwelled by the Holy Spirit to call out a demon by using the name of Jesus.
and then i gave my position::
2) I do not believe the Bible says that one must have the Holy Spirit to be able to call out a demon with the name of Jesus.. I believe that the very name of Jesus has power so a person who is not indwelled by the Holy Spirit but believes that the name of Jesus has power could use it in all manor of situations for assistance..

So to me your scripture quote did not confirm to me that the person in that verse who called out the demon in the name of Jesus was necessarily indwelled by the Holy Spirit..

I hope i have been clear in this reply..

Yes all of these people experienced the Holy Spirit enabling them at times during their lives to perform the deeds that God needed them to perform..
