Opinions.
Matthew 24:17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

Luke 17:31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

My opinion: your OP is missing any substance that would elicit opinions. :)

How often is someone on an actual rooftop?
Me? About 3-4 times a year, when I clean gutters or place/remove holiday lights.

Rooftops in that culture were more likely to be functional spaces, perhaps like decks are in modern North America.

The Lord was giving information what the generation who would see the abomination of desolation standing where it ought not be.
So, will there be a great percentile of people in this generation who see the abomination standing where it ought not stand be on their rooftops?

That depends on whether "this generation" means within a few decades of Jesus' statement (ie. AD 70 or so), or ~2000 years later. Jesus' clear meaning was, "Don't take time then to make preparations". The housetop and the field are just examples. How many people literally work in fields these days? Not many.

Today in the western world probably not often . In the time and place that the scriptures were written quite often . It was a place to store goods so they weren’t stolen. A place to dry out grains or foods like raisins. Also a place to sleep depending on the time of year . Always remember you need to take into consideration the culture and time of when scripture was written. Scripture needs to make sense to all audiences.

While I see this in reference to today; even if this were to have occurred 2000 years ago, I do not believe there would have been a significant amount of people on their rooftops seeing the Romans standing in a burned out temple.
Off topic, but I'm curious; how do reconcile those who are in the field seeing the abomination of desolation standing in a burned out temple in Jerusalem?

Hello Louis,

I'm sure that there are many houses with patios or entertainment areas which are on the roof top in Israel. Even here in the US there are many homes with entertainment areas on the top of the house. Why would this be an issue.

The scripture also says "let no one in the field turn back to get his cloak." Would you also be saying that no one would be working in the field? The idea that is being stressed, is that when they see the abomination standing in the holy place to not stop to pack or get anything out of your house, but to get out of the area of Judea immediately.

From the setting up of the abomination, this is when the antichrist/beast will begin to proclaim himself to be God. Israel's warning to flee here in Matt.24:15-22, is synonymous with Rev.12:6, 14 when the woman/Israel flees out into the wilderness to that place that God will have prepared for her during that last 3 1/2 years of the seven year period.

I'm assuming that you also believe the abomination of desolation standing where it ought not stand, is in reference to the burned out temple in Jerusalem?
If so, how could the killed citizens in Jerusalem be on their rooftops to see the abomination of desolation standing where it ought not stand if their houses along with their rooftops have been burned down?

Most people are not on their rooftops, then or now.

Both these verses suggest only that the time to flee the destruction was at hand. It was coming so quickly, that nobody had better try to gather their valuables first. The rooftop here means nothing. :)

Have you ever taken a look at Jerusalem? The Temple Mount is the highest area around. It also has or had walls . Today or in history no one on their roof top could peer in . Get some context bro. Read the scriptures check the geographic environment check history. God has given us a a intellect let’s use it .

You are saying the Lords Word means nothing here. You are incorrect, the Lords Word always means something.

So you are saying that after the Romans burned and sacked Jerusalem and one of them was standing in a burned out temple, that Jerusalem's dead citizens were then standing on their burned out roofless houses, at which point they should have run to the hills? Meanwhile, while Jerusalem was being burned, there was still room out in the fields next to the Roman legions for Judeans to congregate and see the abomination of desolation stand where it ought not stand?

Let me give you guys a clue; look at the example the Lord gives in Luke 17:32

31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

32 Remember Lot's wife.

33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

Is what you said in my most ? If no I didn’t say it .
Read your history the Romans erected the Roman eagle standard in the temple before the destruction of Jerusalem and were sacrificing pigs on the alter before Jerusalem fell bro . Rome had the Temple before the city fell . Also read up on apocalyptic literature.

My apologies, if I have misinterpreted your post.
Let me see if I have this correct: Are you saying that the Lord was providing warning about the Romans erecting an image of an eagle and sacrificing pigs in the temple, and that people on their rooftops who witnessed this were then to run to the mountains?
